Honu's on the Beach Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Buffet had a wide variety of foods from salads to seafood and prime rib. All was prepared to perfection. Cocktails were excellent and well made. Desserts also had a wide variety. Wait staff was attentive and very friendly. Very knowledgable about local events and places. We went early evening so staff did have some extra time to talk story which made the night perfect. I would not recommend this to anyone who has a small appetite. You won't be able to eat enough for the price. If you love to eat, this is a wonderful place to do it. Windows open to the air and right on the beach next to the pier. Loved it! Will go again I am sure.
Beautiful restaurant but unfortunately the $30 mahi mahi was raw in the middle. The waiter did not check back on the food until everyone was done, and at that point it was too late to bother to have it replaced. The waiter and manager were apologetic, but not a good dining experience.
There is not enough room here to tell our story but suffice it to say the following:
-food was excellent
- bathrooms were filthy...shockingly so
- the Restaurant was empty and yet service was horrible for the price we were paying
- got served a glass with lipstick marks on it
- waiter got the order wrong
- we had to leave our table and go to the bar to get our drinks as they just sat on the bar, already made but not delivered, for 20 minutes
- waiter told us that they were out of one of the dishes we ordered so he and the chef decided to give us something else...not like “we are out of ribeye so we substituted New York strip” but like “we were out of the pasta so we substituted the fish”. What the heck? Why would you do that?!?!
- waited for him to come by so we could ask for the check...table was cleared, drinks were empty, restaurant still rather empty, and we are just staring at each other waiting for him to reappear for around 20 min.
Such a shame...they have a great breakfast buffet at Honus but as locals we will NOT be returning there for dinner.
My boyfriend and I came here for dinner while staying in Kona for their weekend buffet. It was $50/person and they had a decent amount of options. There were 2 types of sushi, 1 chicken dish, 1 pork dish, 1 fish dish, crab legs and the beef roast. There were also 3 sides and a pasta/salad station. The servers were so nice and quick to help you, the view was also beautiful. Only reason I give it 4 stars is because it was a little pricey in my opinion for the number of options. But all delicious.
Our family enjoyed a great buffet dinner here with a lovely view of the ocean. It seems to be a favorite place for local families as there were lots of groups of Hawaiians at the time we were there. The crab legs were delicious and so were the desserts. An excellent selection of foods overall, and a nice pasta bar too. Recommended for anyone!
I would not recommend this restaurant at all it was very disappointing there was no you could display on Ice there were flies crawling across the food the oil for the was disgusting. The pasta was tasteless there was a crowd of people way too far online in front of us and all of the food was empty in the warmers. I will never go back
It seems as though my friends and I over stayed out welcome or something as at one point the server was having a conversation with my guess would be the manager. Here's what I observed - the manager looking at his watch, whispering and looking towards our table. Honestly locals know when they are being talked about. So with that what was a favorite go to for a nice dinner and hanging out with friends I say good bye to Honu's and wish them well. You'll always have your regulars just not us.
We ate at Honu's while on vacation in Hawaii. First, the view was absolutely stunning - we looked out at the water and King Kamemehameha's final home while watching the sun go down, and it was breathtaking (as most things are in Hawaii)! Our server was outstanding. He was very knowledgeable about the area, gave us a quick history lesson, and made sure everything was to our liking, without being over-attentive. My husband and I both had the local fish. Mine was not quite done in the middle so I sent it back and when it arrived a few minutes later, it was perfect. We enjoyed a favorite Pinot Noir. It was a lovely evening, start to finish!
Excellent service and yummy food! We enjoyed a delightful meal at Honu's. Their wine list included one of our favorite Pinots, Au Bon Climat. We started with the calamari appetizer, served with a slightly spicy aioli. It was very meaty and tender. We both ordered the local fish special - a flaky, rich white fish served with vegetables in a lemon butter sauce. My fish was a bit raw but after sending it back, it came out perfectly prepared. We finished with macadamia nut ice cream and Kona coffee, both of which were delicious. Our server was fabulous! We would definitely go there again, though we are a little frustrated that we haven't received confirmation from Open Table of our visit, along with the points.
We came here for the seafood buffet not really knowing what to expect (buffets are often hit or miss). The food was pretty good and fresh fish was being brought out pretty often. I wish they would have had a little more veggies instead of pretty much all meat but the swordfish we had was very good. However, I'm not sure if it's worth the $50 a person pricetag
Excellent service from Cisco. We were directly under a speaker. The music kept blaring. A gentleman, I am guessing the manager, apologized, saying the system was broken. Although we recieved many apologies from him AND Cisco, we almost left before service. I would highly recommend the sound system be fixed or a lot of business may be lost. Yes, it was THAT irritating. Other than that, we had a good meal and, I'll say it again, Cisco was phenomenal.
When I made my reservation on Open Table, I checked the dinner menu. I have dietary restrictions and I'm not a big eater. I saw no mention, on Open Table, of the fact that Friday and Saturday nights were buffet. I was not pleased! Please keep your information up to date.
In the King Kam Hotel, restaurant is in Kona, near the beach and water. Excellent views of sunsets. Food has been very good. Quality products, many locally grown or produced, prepared by industry professionals, make an excellent dining experience. Portions are satisfying and prices are very reasonable. Staff are outstanding! Everyone is very attentive, friendly, welcoming, and are excellent representatives of the island and hotel. This restaurant is very welcoming to local residents.
We were looking for the quintessential restaurant over the water with the tiki Torches at sunset. The Iconic hawaiian fine dining experience. We asked for a table on the outside perimeter so we could watch the sunset. They failed to mention that the restaurant was situated in a location that made that impossible since its view was south, not west. We were trying to stay within a reasonable budget for our little family of three and so we scoured the online menu to check offerings and prices. Being happy with the range we saw, including both fish and non fish options and prices from the low 20's to a high of $34, we made a reservation. This was going to be our fancy celebration dinner for our big trip to Hawaii. After we got seated and our beverages ordered, the waiter invited us to the buffet. Little did we know that Saturday and Sunday were buffet only. I had seen a sign about a Sunday brunch but nothing of the buffet. They even had a menu on display that only listed regular entre items. Well that buffet was $50 per person. Far above the prices we expected from their menu. Too embarrassed to leave, we went ahead and ate.
I can't eat seafood and found only two options for meat dishes. They had an overlooked dry roast beef and an equally dry and stringy teriyaki chicken. Ordinarily I love all things teriyaki and especially chicken. This however was very dry and over cooked. The highlight of the meal was clearly the garlic, bacon and cheese mashed potatoes.
We fared much better up the coast at the Mauna Kea Resort's Hau Tree restaurant.
