The food, service and ambience was great !
Great service from Robert. Great food.
Food was great and atmosphere very fun. Waitstaff wasn’t really engaged with us.....
Great Sunday brunch. Apparently they just started it recently. Wonderful location and live music with an awesome selection of food.
Open table reservation was not honored. Had to wait. Recommend calling directly instead.
I really like it
After reading the reviews, we decided to give it a try. The service was wonderful because at 5:45 there were only two tables full. They had a luau going on and I am sure that all hotel guests went to it instead of the Courtyard dining room. Our waiter, Cisco was so efficient and responsive ti our needs. He knew I had a pepper allergy and made sure my food had none. My mahi mahi pan seared was delicious, my sister was happy with her huge burger, but my husband was disappointed with the Chow Fun. But the Caesar salad he had made up for it. Don’t think we will return, 35 minute drive but we did enjoy most of our dinner and service was excellent.
We were staying at the hotel and decided to try it on our last night. It was outstanding. I had the rib eye and the waiter went out of his way to make sure my wife had a gluten free option.
We had dinner and the view was wonderful of the Kona shoreline and lights. Unfortunately, the food did not match the view. Burger was very average, dry and very well cooked. The same could be said for my tuna fresh catch. The prices were reasonable, just wish the food could have been better.
It was a little pricey but everything tasted so good, restaurant was clean and service was excellent. The setting is beautiful and the choices of food are great. A lot of desserts too! Always will come back again.
Sweet location on the beach! Reasonably priced sushi! Extra bonus of catching the opening ceremonies of the Luau that happens in the adjacent location so go for an early supper at around 6pm!
Honus is our go to place whenever we are in Kona. The crab and seafood Buffett is a must!
As part-time Kona residents, we have dined at the buffet many times. It is our favorite Friday evening dining adventure. The service is excellent, and the food is always yummy! There is always an excellent selection, including the deserts, and the crab is usually outstanding. This past Friday was no exception. On top of that, the service is always wonderful, especially Robert who keeps a very watchful eye on our table. Looking forward to a return visit soon!!
Restaurant is a little worse for wear and not as nicely decorated or cleaned as you would expect for the price but food is delicious and service was amazing
We were very disappointed with the Sunday buffet. This did not meet Marriott Standards. The reception to the food quality was poor. The price does not match the poor quality of food. The restaurant floors and side boards are dirty. We will not visit this location again.
As local part-time residents, we have dined at Honu's quite a few times. Our recent experience was one of the best. The Friday seafood buffet food selection and quality is wonderful, and the service is excellent. We have our favorite "attendant" that always takes exceptional care of us. And the Manager made several trips to our table to check on our overall satisfaction. We look forward to a return visit in the near future. We love the place!
New Year’s Eve
New years eve
Christmas Day Buffet. We had 7 pm reservations. The seafood bar looked a bit picked over. The chilled shrimp was mushy. They were out of scallops. The dessert bar was wonderful. I enjoyed the peach cobbler. We had great seats near the open windows. Staff was attentive.
Great food choices for Christmas dinner-prime rib, lamb, lots and lots of crab legs!! Servers were awesome considering the place was SLAMMED. Shout out to Sheldon who took great care of my family and our requests. Made our Christmas special in Kona!
The view and food were fabulous. Will go again soon
We made a reservation for 1900, we arrived at 1845 to check in. We were told that it would be a 40-60 minute wait because 9 other parties with reservations are waiting to be seated...I asked if they were walk-ins or people who made reservations?! She said people with reservations as far back as November. We left our phone number to wait for our table. We received a call at 1945 to tell us we would have a table in 20 mins BUT it was a shared table with another couple...normally wouldn’t mind BUT last night we were celebrating our anniversary. We did everything we were suppose do to do...we made a reservation, we confirmed our reservation the night before and the day of. Not much more I could do....very disappointing!!!
Always, top notch with service and food, highly recommend this Mariott Hotel vs the Waikoloa Mariott Hotel buffet
The atmosphere was lovely. Could hear the luau which was a bit loud, but then settled in. Could see some of the acts moving in on boats. Unfortunately the food was awful. Presentation was nice, but beautiful shrimp and scallops had absolutely NO taste at all!
We enjoyed the food and our server. She was so sweet and full of aloha. Thank you so much ❤️
We were there for Thanksgiving buffet. It was very mediocre. Way overpriced.
Thanksgiving buffet was delicious when there were fresh items available. We went from 5:30 to 6:30 and about half of the food was Baron or a few things left on each plate. The sushi was never replenished while we were eating.
Celebrating Thanksgiving with family in Kona and not wanting to cook, lead me on a search for the "Just Right" place for us. Honus was even more than I expected. Beautiful outdoor seating at the beach and selection of food for everyone, even our 9 year old.
The buffet overall was good. Especially liked the cold salad selections, the scallup ceviche was delicious. The poke, and shrimp were tasty. The hot side was adaquate, the roast pork was outstanding, as was the prime rib at the carving station. The stuffing was dry, and the chef supervising could not have tasted or made the gravy. If he did, he needs to go back to school for a refresher; it had to much added salt, or base.
The service was adaquate, considering it was a buffet, I would say sub par. Desert was fair. The worst part was the coffee. It must have sat for hours before it was served to me. Unacceptable. Especially for the price we paid. The view was outstanding.
Thanksgiving spread was very good value and ht some high spots.
It's been years when I came to Honu's. Just body with life. But We loved everything, from the moment we walked in, the welcoming from the employees to the great buffet. The service was excellent. Keep up the Great works. We will return soon.
Selection was very small and extremely overpriced the only bonus was the crab legs. I don't mind paying $$$ for good food but this was a sad attempt to make a cafe a buffet on a friday night.
Extremely overpriced buffet for only mediocre food. The prime rib was cold and overcooked; the only avail choice was well done!! Shrimp was soft and mushy. Desserts, obviously frozen, poor quality and flavor. Skip this restaurant. Service was 5 star.
Great service, awesome food and overall a great experience! There was a concert going on by the beach but didn’t bother us at all. My only complaint is that my friends card got overcharged so we had to go all the way back to the restaurant to get it sorted out. Luckily we saved the receipts. Thank you for the great buffet!
Best Seafood Buffet in Kona! Crab legs were amazing. Variety available on the bar including carving station, sushi and dessert.
Excellent service from Lucien! The chicken and magi magi were outstanding. Nice views and breeze. Very friendly hosts.
Too cavernous for any ambiance . But food was great!
So was really disappointed. The menu online did not match the restaurant menu. They eliminated items and had less to offer. Server good forever to take our drink order. Got some free hair with our French fries. The manager did give us a free desert and 20% off but even at that cost, was not worth it.
As a long time visitor to the Big Island, I really wanted the restaurant at the old Kamehameha Hotel to be good, but sad to say it is no better than any typical tourist restaurant with a view. They do not seem to cater to return customers. In fairness, I did not have the dinner buffet (I am not a buffet person) which I have read good things about. Had an ahi bowl, which was just OK, and California rolls which were soggy and not particularly tasty, both not worth the cost. Too many good restaurants in Kona and the Big Island, skip Honu’s. Try Jackie Rey’s, Magic’s, Broke da Mouth, and the high enders on the Kohala Coast instead.
