About Honu Seafood and Pizza - Lahaina
Chef Mark and Judy Ellman have opened a seafood shack, right next door to Mala Ocean Tavern. Honu Seafood and Pizza also sits right on the rocks of the Pacific Ocean, with 50 beers, an organic and eclectic wine list, and an extensive scotch and rum selection. Mark and Judy have created an environment that soothes the savage beasts craving of oysters on the half shell, steamed clams and mussels, Crab Louis salad, a selection of Hawaiian seafood, as well as fish from the West and East Coasts of the US. Honu also features a 900 degree brick-oven turning out artisinal pizzas. Come to Honu, drink a local Micro-brewed beer ,eat some freshly shucked oysters on the half shell, and let your eyes and soul relax into the Pacific. Honu, like Mala, is run by Mark and Judy Ellman and their two daughters Ariana and Michelle. Remember, we always try and practice Aloha. Please come and practice with us.

Honu Seafood and Pizza - Lahaina Ratings and Reviews
Mary at the front desk tried to honor our request for special seating. It didn’t work out but she is charming. Wrong drinks were poured at first but later corrected. Food was terrible. Pizza was hard and dry and menu didn’t reflect ingredients so the pizza showed up with cilantro which my daughter can’t eat.
Birthday dessert was delicious. The staff was accommodating to our problems. Mary sent over a nice dessert.
Portions are big, though some items, such as salads, can be ordered in smaller sizes. we had fish and chips and a pizza with spicy sausage. Both of us were very pleased with our choices. Service was friendly and fast. Reservations are highly recommended, as this is an extremely popular restaurant.
The pina colada was the best on the island. They were out of crab so many of the dishes I was interested in could have lobster substitute but would be a $5 upcharge. I did not think I should have to pay for them to not have their supplies. Otherwise the meals were good.
The food at Honu is good but not exceptional - for the prices I expected a lot more, particularly since the setting is much more casual than fine dining. Salads were tasty (kale and green goddess), but the main courses weren't that special. Basic fish and chips was more than $30. Seafood pasta was like $42. And while the oceanfront location is nice, the restaurant is a little cramped so depending on where you're sitting you might not get an ideal view. The sister restaurant Frida's next door is MUCH better - still a little on the pricey side but both the food and the setting are vastly superior.
While food and service were both good, and the view is great, if you turn around from the water and look to the interior of the restaurant you might as well be in Manhattan. Tables jammed close together and very loud - more annoying than energetic. Definitely in the lower half of restaurants we have visited - mainly because of infrastructure than on food quality, whiich was quite good.
We were referred by a Lahina Condo friend of mine and the food the experience the view the turtles, everything was amazing from front to finish. You must try the Ahi Brushetta whether you like raw fish (or lightly cooked) or not order it anyway. You will remember it for at least 5 years. It's that good! I come from Seattle and the fish & chips are also quite good.
Our last meal while staying on Maui! We greatly enjoyed the view here as we sat right on the waters edge - definitely worthwhile to make a reservation around the time of sunset. We started with their burrata bruschetta which was outstanding. We then had fish/chips and the margarita pizza. Overall for the price we paid it was grossly overpriced for the margarita pizza - just your traditional house pizza without any of the fresh mozzarella you’d normally get. Would come again for happy hour. On another note our waitress was very friendly!
