Honu Kitchen and Cocktails Ratings and Reviews
Really enjoyable meal at Honu. Appetizers were perfectly proportioned and the tuna tartare was excellent as was the crab and avocado. The New York Strip Steak was cooked perfectly and was served with delicious Au Gratin potatoes. Entrees are quite large, almost too much food, with plenty to take home.
We usually love going to Honu, but were a little disappointed this time around with the food. We usually order small plates and a usually delighted by the dishes, but only found most of them "okay", instead of "great". The gnocchi was a little too dense and there was too little Lobster in the lobster bisque, for instance. In the past, we've had gnocchi that just melted in your mouth.
We also usually try to get a seat by the fireplace, but this time sat at a two seater in the center of the dining room and found it much less romantic.
Service was great, though.
We have been to Honu Kitchen many times. The most recent time we were placed at an extremely small table in a corner. Other than feeling like we were being "punished," everything was wonderful. If I ever return and get that table, I would request to be re-seated. It was not pleasant.
Went during Restaurant Week, maybe that was a mistake. Although the prefix menu was nice, felt a bit factory like. Waiter HAD to take whole order (including dessert) at the beginning, no chance to make decisions later. Then they ran out of the dessert! Clearly we didn’t need to put order in at beginning. Trouble getting waiter’s attention in the rush of restaurant week.
Tuna was odd, over cooked with heavy sauce.
Bar scene is CRAZY! Hard to get to restroom through the crush.
Been going to Honu for over 15 years! We go whether it's restaurant week or not! Past restaurant weeks the menu was very straightforward and only 2 up charges for the steaks, last night there were Up charges for basically everything, except for 4 or 5 items including a hamburger for $29.00? It was insulting to pay $34.00 for a pork chop! The food has slipped drastically since they changed chefs! The calamari was like rubber, the quesadilla was filled with shoe leather steak. The risotto with short rib came out cold, the salmon was overcooked and the rice on the plate was cold. The strip steak was very poor quality and up charged $8.00, inedible and sent back! Dessert was also poor! Gelato was like soup, pbandj bread pudding was dense and tasteless. Will not be dining at Honu again!
Tried this restaurant for restaurant week and it did not disappoint. Service was excellent and they had several options for the price fix. I had the filet. It was a bit extra but well worth the money. They did not scale down on portion size. Will definitely come back here.
My wife and I have been coming here for years. This is the first time I have had a poor experience at Honu. The food was excellent as always, but for the first time ever we had an issue with our server. Our server was not very attentive, and focused primarily on patrons who she knew would be swing Kevin James later that evening at the Paramount, leaving us to wait for an extended time to get our drinks, place an order, and even ask a question. Just because we expressed that we were not going to the show doesn't make my money any less green or my business any less important.
Always a good choice food is excellent the bar area is large and the bartenders are very friendly. We been going here for years never disappoints. We enjoy a pre-fixed menu before going to the movies. Mark the manager always stops by and checks in to see how your meal was. Honu is one of the best restaurant in Huntington great food and atmosphere.
We celebrated our anniversary there Wednesday night, so it was much less crowded and noisy than on weekend nights. We had an excellent chardonnay and one entree, with four of the small plates. So it was more of a "tapas" experience. Very good, well-paced service, excellent food, quiet enough for conversation.
Was here for New Years and ordered a bunch of apps and some drinks. Apps were fair at best; soup arrived luke warm even after my wife asked the waitress to make sure it came out hot. The manager brought us a replacement soup and then mentioned they don't bring the soup out very hot for fear of someone burning themselves and suing. If that's the case, then they shouldn't serve hot soup and only serve cold soups. If that wasn't bad enough, the drinks were mediocre at best and not very good. It seems to me that this place is now catering to the late 20s / early 30s crowd who probably aren't so picky so if you like good food and excellent drinks this probably isn't the place for you.
