Micheline rated and it was very good and worth the visit. Service was exceptional and the food as always fresh and tasty. Can never go wrong by far the best.
If I counted on 10 fingers the city restaurants we go back to a second time, I'd have digits left over. HKll is one. On our previous visit, I was delighted to see organic chicken offered. Pleased it remained on the menu, we ordered this (crispy roasted) again and found it still flawless. Couldn't resist a special, Maine lobster yi mein, despite startling $48 price tag. Though not yet prime season, the crustacean passed muster, as did the somewhat soft egg noodles interspersed with pieces of ginger and scallion.
Though our server's English failed its effort to enumerate the vegetables in fried brown rice with assorted mushrooms, vegetables, and macadamias, the huge dish just missed delicious: mushroom flavors, though no noticeable pieces, and nonChinese vegetables like carrots and corn created a satisfying, comfort foodlike mixture; alas, the macadamias seemed to have had a flavorectomy--resembling in neither texture nor taste any I'd ever eaten before. Perhaps a translation problem.
I'd forgotten that the usually generic Chinese restaurant "tea" at HKll proves to be a choice; we enjoyed our chrysanthemum, a somewhat sharper, more austere version than the Taiwanese.
Another feature here has been the excellent service, which, on this visit, was not up to snuff. Because we chose to sit next to each other at the large table, our dishes and tea were beyond reach, but staff didn't notice, so food got cold while I waved my hands around for help. Also, we were expected to manage our lobster and noodles on bread-and-butter size plates, with no place to put shells. These lapses stole some luster from the experience. When I pointed this out, the man I spoke to said plates were supposed to be continually changed, an unecological and labor-intensive practice that, on this occasion, failed.
It was a family gathering for my wife's birthday, and we were a table of 9.
As always, Hong Kong Lounge II does not disappoint. The food and the service are just outstanding.
The dim sum was the best, service attentive and very helpful with the menu. The total experience was a highlight of our spring break in the Bay Area.
Always a great experience both food and service. Thank you again for everything.
We love this restaurant, it’s some of the best Chinese food in the area and the dim sum is stellar. They don’t bring carts around but you just order off a menu and they bring out the food very quickly. The service there is also top notch and very friendly. We love this place even more after we realized we could make reservations!
Best of the best
The staff was great and food was excellent. All our guess were impressed.
Food has been good and consistent, but especially terrific the last three times. And we go there three to four times a month since they opened! Wish they would bring back the butterfly dessert. Hint hint.
most disappointing dim sum we have ever experienced. The dim sum was huge and tastelessYou had to pick the bones out of the Peking Duck in order to eat the pancakes.
Wonderful food and excellent service. Dim sum dumplings were the best I've enjoyed in SF. Enjoyed both entrees, Salt & Pepper Prawns (normally in shell, they were great with taking them out of the shell) and Steamed Eggplant and Pork with Pickled Vegetables were divine. I live in Portland, OR and I wish there were Chinese restaurants of this caliber. Great meal!
This place is very accommodating, made a reservation for four and was able to add two more people without any problem. I like how they have a separate semi-private room for large parties, it’s quieter and service is much faster. The food was amazing, everything from soup dumplings to the duck, so fresh and so flavorful. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning for some more.
The Starter Honey Glazed BBQ Pork Belly with bao, ( $15 ) was terrible. It consisted of fat only. We had it before and was not like that!
Food was delicious, but rushed and service seemed chaotic and disorganized. Also one dish we ordered never arrived. When we asked to have it removed from the bill, since we didn’t get it, we were told by the owner that we ordered too much food, so it was never put on our bill. Lol. We will never go back.
Quality of food never disappoints. We ordered a set banquet menu this visit. The service was excellent with plenty of attention.
Food and service were excellent, as always. This is our favorite place to bring friends to for good Chinese good.
Great party of 8 enjoyed every bite! 😄👍
I can't wait to go back. The food was SO good! We ordered a variety of thongs for the 4 of us and we could think of not a single criticism of anything. Great food, great service!
A few highlights:
We had a delicious family dinner consisting of
Peking Duck that hardly had fat under the crispy skin! The crab was sautéed in ginger and was cooked to perfection, the salt and pepper jumbo prawns were sweet and crispy. The Coffee Spareribs were creative and tasty, although we did not use the whipped cream on the side. If you are a real Cantonese foodie, you will love the Country rice clay pot with taro and Chinese bacon ----a must have! Desserts were wonderfully executed... I'm not telling all the secrets!
Can't wait to go back!
Authentic Chinese food - good seafood. Good variety of dim sum during lunch hours - baked barbecue pork bun, steamed rice noodle, shrimp dumpling, baked egg tart are all delicious. The restaurant is clean and tidy.
Excellent all around!
Will CERTAINLY be back soon.
Best Chinese food for the Richmond District SF. Food is well prepared and delicious. Chinese New Year banquet menu was do it on and excellent service. We also love the dim sum much menu.
Great way to close the Chinese New Year. Service was very friendly and attentive. Food was also delicious and very fresh. Restaurant is small but nice and is Michelin Rated.
Probably the best Chinese (Cantonese) restaurant in San Francisco! Parking is easy in this neighborhood. This is my choice for Chinese food in a casual atmosphere.
Great Cantonese food with equally attentive service. Lighting could've been a little less dim for senior eyes. Wish we could've had our shot of whiskey for our occasion but we were politely informed it was not allowed. Appreciated the courtesy and apologies extended.
Great food and service!
Great way to celebrate a birthday.
All was terrific! I would suggest that they dim the lights a bit to enhance the ambiance.
This was special occasion getting family together for New Year. The staff were courteous and friendly. We ordered the prix fixe for four. Each dish was tasty: Shanghai dumplings, Peking duck, wagyu beef with bok choi, crab claws, steamed fish, and noodles with shiitake mushroom.
We felt that the dishes were not served as hot as they could have been. And they were being served so quickly that the dishes were getting cold before we could enjoy them.
Also we had to ask for the tea to be refreshed with hot water. We wish they checked rather than us having to ask.
Food was pretty bad-the lemon chicken was so sweet it could have been dessert chicken. Felt sick after eating the “house noodles” that were drenched in some brown sludge sauce. The menu has NO DESCRIPTIONS. Little did we know the “house noodles” had every type of protein included and the noodles were crispy with the consistency of uncooked pasta. However, the dumplings were good, but nothing spectacular for what you are paying. Service was pretty bad, no one comes to check on you basically they bring you your food and leave you. After leaving a tip on the lower side since the service and food were so bad, a waiter chased us out of the restaurant and made us so uncomfortable we had to add more on top of what we left. Do not come here, it’s not worth it. Paid $100 to feel sick and awkward. After scouring yelp, all bad reviews are hidden. Same on Opentable. Really misleading.
Best chinese Pekin Duck in San Francisco. The servers are are welcoming and helpful.
Thanks for a great dinnerxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
The best Chinese food in the city besdes there other location. Great favors and freshness. A local gem on Geary in sf....
Excellent place for a family feast. Had the pleasure of taking my out-of-town relatives here for dinner on a Friday night. Did not disappoint.
So much tasty food!
Good dim sum with fresh ingredients and delicate flavors across the board. Tasty soup dumplings (really all dumplings), good pork belly, delicious beef and shrimp with soft noodles. Worth the trek from downtown and not touristy at all.
