Hondos Ratings and Reviews
Our previous dining experiences @ Hondo's has always been above average....service and food quality exceptional. During this visit, the restaurant was having a busier than expected night of dinner service. A normal dining experience of 1 1/2 hours during into an almost 3 hour dining experience for just the two of us. The biggest issue was a crabcake entrée served luke warm that was sent back to heat up....which took almost 15 minutes to bring back. Our final check was adjusted with an entrée deducted, along with our appetizer....management made amends. We definitely tipped on the full amount prior to the check deductions.
The food was so disappointing! We were there at 11:00 for Sunday brunch. Couldn’t get near the omelette station...too many people waiting and only one pan/cook available. We were all going to have omelettes because most of the other food being offered was sub par. The Frittata was rubbery; some kind of chicken dish which I decided to try, the chicken was dry! I could go on but for the sake of brevity I’ll just say, none of us will go back.
This was my first visit to Hondo's and was really looking forward to it after hearing so many positive things about it. However, after having dined there I felt rather underwhelmed by my experience. We had 2 glasses of wine, one appetizer and two entrees. The bill was well over $100 which I felt was a bit excessive. The appetizer had a total of only 5 shrimp on it. One of us got a seafood trio and the other the prime rib. The seafood dinner was pretty good except there was so much cheese on the shrimp it had to be scraped off before eating them. The smashed potatoes were excellent! The prime rib was cooked very well however the side dish of the augratin potatoes had so much of an overpowering cheese or spice in them they were totally inedible! This was for a birthday dinner, which I indicated when making the reservation, but that was never mentioned while we were there dining. Overall, this is not a restaurant I will return to in the near future or recommend to a friend.
We went for Sunday brunch and let me say it was wonderful. Omelette station, all the usual breakfast offerings, and the cheese grits and Eggs Hondo were excellent. The seafood Newberg was also good. The carving station had excellent selections. The wait staff was fantastic and the seating in the library type room was marvelous.
We entered the restaurant and immediately were seated and had our coats taken. Our server approached and asked for our drink orders. She provided fabulous service the entire night. I ended up ordering a scotch and a Hondo’s Steak au poivre medium rare. It was cooked beautifully to a perfect temperature. My wife ordered the seafood trio and was impressed by its presentation on the plate and the taste of the food. This is a great place for a romantic dinner and we thoroughly enjoyed our anniversary evening.
Hondo's is a delightful restauran with excellent food. The ahi tuna and fried oysters were perfect. The raw oysters were good but a bit small. We all ordered either steak or prime rib and they were cooked to perfection. The banana foster cheesecake was so good we had two!
The restaurant was extremely busy but our waiter was efficient and on top of everything!
Went there will a family of four for Christmas eve dinner. Since it was Christmas eve, the server acted as if she did not want to be there. There was a nice selection from the menu and a good kiddies menu. The restaurant was crowded and our booth was a little uncomfortable as there was not enough room. Finally, the food arrived and it was luke warm as if it were sitting on a counter waiting for it to be delivered to our table. At the time, we did not say anything and when the server brought the check , I let her know. She said she would get the manager and he came by I explained. He apologized and said he would look into it. Dissappointed in this high end restaurant with most entrees at the $40 to $50 level Will not go back
Food was great as always. Service was mediocre at best. We ordered a bottle of wine at the bar and had a couple drinks. No one offered to carry our drinks to our table after we tabbed out. Our waiter was non existent for most of the time. We used to dine at Hondos when it was at the other location. Service has gone down hill, sad.
One of the worst dining experiences we have had in quite some time. Service was deplorable - waiter clearly didn't want to wait on us (we had asked to move from the front dining room as it was a bit cold in there), so I guess he wasn't expecting us. He made a point of mentioning that we were added to his area two times in a snarky way -- even though it seemed he only had three other tables -- not sure what the problem was.
Took over ten minutes just to get water -- then he disappeared for a while -- finally came back with wine -- then he disappeared again. Took our order and we got our salads fairly quickly...more waiting for entrees -- wine glass had been empty for quite some time by then -- had to ask the server to bring another.
Entrees were cold -- steaks way overcooked -- they took mine back to the kitchen to re-do -- never came back with it...boyfriend went ahead and ate what he could of his his well done steak (he ordered medium). But it was not good. Lobster was rubbery.
Only good thing was the manager comped the meal. We offered to pay for the drinks, but he took care of the whole thing....that was nice, but nothing that he shouldn't have done anyway, given the circumstances.
This used to be a really nice place to go for special occasions -- not so sure we'll be back.
After 20+ years of having brunch at Tj's to celebrate our anniversary we were unable to secure reservations with them this year and your establishment was highly recommended. I must say that I was disappointed with our waitress and with your lunch selections on the brunch. We ordered a glass of champagne with our brunch and enjoyed it. We asked our waitress what brand it was and she gave us a very vague answer with how it may or may not be spelled. As an after thought she asked if we liked it. While we were waiting for our food at the cooking station she came from your kitchen area and yelled at someone in there that she was going to "cut them." Not exactly the ambiance we were used to. Your lunch selections included a gray, slimy fish option as well as flavorless chicken. Needless to say, it was not as enjoyable as we had hoped. For a restaurant that is supposed to be a more fine dining establishment we expected more.
The food and service were very good, as usual. They added a special dessert free of charge because we were celebrating my wife's birthday. They also managed to provide us with the requested booth even though there were many people attending for various large group functions.
great food! it was very busy on the day my team went for our Y/E holiday lunch (only 5 of us) however, we were one of the first tables seated (at 11:30) but with big parties coming in, it took over an hour to get our food. We were kind of forgotten...but the food made up for it!
went in October, food and service excellent so I booked a dinner with my business associates and wives last sat night. Once again excellent food, service, reservation right on time no waiting attentive staff, just an excellent overall experience. I will be back
We've previously visited Hondo's and had a fantastic experience. This experience left a little to be desired. Our server did a good job, but the people delivering food left a little to be desired. Also we sent a dessert back (and admitted it was our fault for not fully considering what was ordered) which was met with an unexpected amount of resistance- in this case from the server, not the manager. Overall the food was decent, but for the price point, it wasn't the overall experience I was hoping for. We'll likely be back, but we won't be rushing...
