Amazing through and through
Always one of our favorite places to eat at during Oakland’s restaurant week. Service was impeccable and food is outstanding.
This was my first time at Homestead but certainly not the last time. The food was excellent! There are creative minds at work: the combinations of ingredients, the presentation, and the TASTE! Needless to say, I was totally pleased.
The food was surprisingly just okay. And $32 for mediocre Shakshuka with one single egg was actually hilarious. I've been to Homestead before and love the ambiance but sad to see the food going downhill and the prices going uphill. No wonder I was able to get a last minute reservation.
Great experience...mostly!😎 when we called to tell them we would be 5-10 minutes late due to traffic the hostess reminded us that our table was booked for the next guest in 1 hr 30 minutes...huh?!?! Never in 50 yrs of fine dining have I been told that...asked them to make an exception and serve the fixe price appetizer....nope not even for your anniversary 😳on the bright side, food was GREAT! Owner makes the rounds and seems to care! We will return but....don’t even THINK about being late🤪
Went for Oakland Restaurant week, the sampler of "classic" dishes was delicious and well rounded. I love that gratuity is built in so staff get a living wage and you are fully aware of your costs. Service was great, the vibe was nice, and the food and wine were excellent.
Thank you for everything. We really appreciated it.
We have eaten all over the world. Homestead is superior! All aspects were three star. We were proud to be their guest. Enjoy
Homestead continues to be my favorite spot in Oakland. ❤️
My foodie husband picked Homestead for his birthday dinner. The service was GREAT. We love the fact that they pay their staff a living wage and the tip is built into the menu prices. We enjoyed our first two courses. Unfortunately my husband did not like the short ribs which tasted like pot roast to him He LOVES the short ribs at Italian Colors (where they cost $10 less.)
A nice dining experience. We came early, so on a cold evening were able to get a warm table near the oven. The main courses did not appeal to us on our visit, so we made a good meal of starters, salads and soup. Our two starter salads were good and enough for sharing, but the very good duck confit was only enough for one. We each had a crab bisque soup, which though thinner than we had hoped for, and with not quite enough crab pieces, was nonetheless quite tasty. House made bread and butter are a good accompaniment. Since we came early, it was pretty quiet for most of our meal, we could actually hear the music and each other talking.
This was my first visit to Homestead, meeting a friend in Oakland. It looked very good and maybe this was just an off-night, but I won't try again. Sunday is a pre fixe menu. The major disappointment was raw meat as a main course. Coming in, we saw the huge prime ribs on the grill. What came on our plates looked like it never saw the grill. It was a lot of chewing to work through dinner. Not great.
I've eaten at Homestead many times and once again their Sunday dinner was great.
Excellent food and great service on a very busy night with a private group in the back. We were compensated for the slow start very nice and not necessary. Always enjoyable
The service was friendly, the food was quite good (that's a British 'quite', a bit below 'very'), but the servings were not large and the prices were high. So overall it's hard to recommend warmly.
Love this place, never once has it failed me. Happy holidays!
Great food and service. Super creative menu that is fun to share including an accessible wine list. Portions are sane so you can try a lot of different things without getting stuffed. Definitely going back!
Always enjoy myself here. food
Is unique and service excellent
Server was excellent, food was great. Will definitely come back!
Limited item menu but very good food and service. Regretfully the restaurant is much too noisy to converse in a normal tone of voice.
My husband and I tried Homestead after reading the reviews on Open Table and we had the best meal. This is a special restaurant. All the menu prices include gratuity, so there is no need to tip on top of the cost of your meal!. Based on this model, Homestead is able to pay their staff a living wage! Great. The menu is amazing, I really wanted to try everything, but we narrowed our meal to a first, a second and dessert (each of which we shared) and a main for each of us. Each of our dishes- was amazing especially the octopus with white beans. I'm dreaming of that dish several days later and am trying to think of other occasions for which I can get myself back to this restaurant!
Sunday night is a prix fixe menu with one salad, one entree, and one desseert - which we had forgotten. Not our preferred style. The salad was fine, the bouillabaisse was good not great, and the apple tart was competent. Service was correct and pleasant without being particularly warm. Overall, it was fine....but we'll remember not to go on Sunday nights again.
I had not been to this restaurant in a few years, but it was amazing. The filet of sole I had with a browned butter sauce was so delicious. The persimmons cake for dessert was also fresh and seasonal, loved it. Will definitely come back even though I have moved out of the neighborhood.
Another wonderful family dinner. Outstanding service and food. This is my family’s favorite restaurant. Many happy memories and many more to come.
As always, good food, well prepared and the service is consistently good. Menus change frequently. Wonderful meal
Excellent meal on a busy Friday night. Great service person. Fair wages paid, no tipping. Homemade bread & butter.
Intimate quiet restaurant with artfully mixed ingredients—one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Excellent wine recommendations. This being the Bay Area, it’s hard to get high marks for “value,” but at least every penny spent is well worth it.
Service was fantastic, but food was horrible.
Food was very good, but a bit expensive for what you get.
It was very to accommodate a vegan patron at a family style Friend Chicken Sunday dinner. Every thing was very good but took a star off for heavy tough biscuits
Sublime. Innovative. Delicious. Such inadequate words to describe a wonderful meal. I look forward to the next time!
Loved our evening! We were celebrating my wife's birthday (just the two of us) and had a fantastic dining experience: friendly, warm but very professional service, excellent food across all 4 courses and just generally a great low-key vibe in the restaurant. A little chaotic upon arrival just because a number of folks gathered and waiting for their tables to open up, but once seated all extremely pleasant. Very much looking forward to returning.
Food was great but quantities were small. Not always the case however. We always enjoy our visits.
Great service and good quality ingredients but portions are small given the prices. Thank goodness for the bread or we would have left hungry. Extensive wine options; the by the glass pours seem small for the price. Getting one of the less expensive bottles might be a better option if your party can agree on a wine. The decor is very basic though it is welcoming.
Food was tasty. Space was comfortable. Enjoyable meal. Would return.
We love Homestead! Innovative, delicious flavors that still feel very accessible and honest. A great ambience - buzzy but homey.
Food is delicious, Pecan pie was stellar but all pretty pricey. Sadly, we couldn’t help but notice that we were the only apparent folks of color in the place — for which we blame gentrification — and the manager went around and gave a personal touch and light conversation to all the tables but ours — for which we blame white supremacy. Anyway, glad I went to check it off my list of places to try but probably won’t be back.
Excellent food and service. Also, we could hear each other speak, which is not the case at many restaurants these days.
Wonderful place. Amazing food. They were able to accommodate my food sensitivities and were very knowledgeable about the menu
Food was original and delicious. The insistence on farm to table goodness was very much in evidence.
Servers were delightful and attentive in there Halloween finery. A thoroughly enjoyable dinner
