Homer Street Cafe & Bar
Housed in two of Vancouver’s most iconic buildings, Homer St Cafe and Bar is a contemporary restaurant set in the historic Homer Building and new Beasley building in Vancouver’s Yaletown district.
Classic comfort cooking takes center stage thanks to a fire engine red rotisserie that roasts all manner of proteins. It’s chicken that’s the star here: served in quarter, half or whole portions, accompanied by classic sides basted in jus.
A decidedly adventurous wine and cocktail list rounds out the menu. The restaurant features two spaces that consist of an open concept kitchen “Chef’s Bar” where one can get up close and personal with the culinary team, a semi private dining room with reclaimed factory windows, and bespoke seating complemented by antique tiling.

We had a fabulous time! Hillary was a tremendous host, as were all of the other service staff. The wine list is creative and reasonable, food delicious with unique offerings, and service attentive and friendly. We will be back as soon as we can!
Fun evening and wonderful chicken as always. Service was mostly good but I had to ask for water several times (each time I wanted water) which was a little frustrating should be more automatic I would think. However, overall a good experience.
This place is 5 min from my house and looks stunning, so I invited my friends to come over for a nice dinner. I've come here before for brunch and had a great experience, so I was shocked by the service last night. The chicken we ordered came with a side of coleslaw with green onions mixed in, which I can't eat. I let a roaming wait staff know, and he disappeared. Then I let our server know, and she blurted out, "Oh. Well that's too bad."
We kinda stared at her, dumbfounded, because this is a 30 dollar entree and I literally told her I have a dietary restriction that prevents me from eating part of the dish. She continued to say things like, "I'm sorry to hear that. That's unfortunate," while shrugging.
It's not something I could have prevented because the ingredient was not mentioned in the menu and is not typically included in this food otherwise. Fast food establishments have better protocol for dealing with dietary restrictions than the way that Homer St Cafe did last night. We had no idea what to say.
In the end she said apprehensively, "Well then, do you want something else? Like a different side?"
I was like, yes...anything is fine as long as it doesn't have green onions...
And then she disappeared, after which the other roaming wait staff who had disappeared came back and said, "Do you want a side salad? Would that be something you want?"
And I was like, sure.....and they came back in about 20 min with a cup of lettuce in vinegar for me. Which is great! If they had showed an accommodating and understanding attitude when I let them know of my dietary restriction before that, the evening would have been a good experience for us.
I'm weirded out by the fact that the server was basically like, "too bad for you" when I told her of a dietary restriction in downtown Vancouver no less, where people tend to have diverse food requirements and can expect to find a lot of options. In any case, I won't feel welcome to return to Homer St Cafe again.
Beautiful place .5 Stars. It feels like in Europe,or NY. very classy.
Wonderful service and fantastic food! I had the chicken and others in my party had pork chop, lamb, chicken pasta. All truly delicious! I usually can’t tolerate noisy restaurants but the ambience was fun and contributed to an energetic atmosphere. Really enjoyed every bit of this restaurant.
Always enjoy dining here. We love the ambience, the service and the food. Paying three times the liquor store price for wine is a bit much.
Delicious food, friendly/ helpful staff and a very accommodating kitchen for allergies.
Excellent food and very good service! I like how different areas of the restaurant have a slightly different feel (all nice!).
Best restaurant in Vancouver! We love this place! We visit from Northern California every year and come to Homer Street at least 2 or 3 times the week we visit!
Fantastic food. The roast of the day was awesome. Will be going back in the near future. Would recommend this restaurant to friends and family
Always a good choice!
Previously I have had the lamb and the pork and they were delicious. This time it was beef and it was disappointing. It was chewy and tough to cut. Not enjoyable.
Very well-run establishment.
is a great place to get together, food and service is awesome!!
Food was great! Service was extremely spotty, we were approached by staff but too a long time for them to take our order and get cocktails. Had to ask for stuff we ordered often and they just forgot...several times. Food was delicious, the chicken should not be missed. Great location and the patio is lovely.
Excellent as usual. We came for an early dinner before a show. I brought 4 friends. They will all come back.
The staff was great, especially Lauren, the food was great, and the whole vibe is wonderful.
Delicious food and excellent service. Ask for the server's off menu drink recommendations
Chicken was very good, lamb special even better. Very friendly and efficient wait staff. Had a wonderful time!
Homer Street Cafe is always consistent with great food , service and smart cocktails !
What a wonderful night had here. Was recommended and did not disappoint. Food and service - impeccable!!
Great lunch but sad to hear that they had no fried chicken skin today and that they are taking it off the menu :(.
Consistently good all around. Never been disappointed.
Always a classic with great food and better service
Excellent food and service, but incredibly loud music made it necessary to shout at the person 2 feet away. I don't understand the philosophy of this? Is it to keep the bartenders awake?
We celebrated my friend's birthday on the patio. Food and service were superb. I have dined there on several occasions. My only suggestion would be to turn down the volume of the music. Inside the restaurant on by the patio entrance, the music was too loud for conversation. It should be more in the background and not competing with conversation.
Snacks and refreshments after our sons grad ceremony. The food was delicious and where we were located was perfect for our group.
Robyn, our server, was so nice, friendly and kind. All servers in the industry should be like Robyn ! Thanks for being great !
Perfect for a pre-concert meal. Service was fast and impeccable. Good selection of food, which was very well prepared and plated. Limited wine & beer selection but good possibilities. Exceeded expectations on all counts. Will come again!
Exceptional as usual. We will continue to wa here each time we visit Vancouver area from Portland.
Excellent staff, location and atmosphere! You can't beat their chicken! My GF is vegetarian and had a great meal as well!
Kristina is the best manager in the city, made our experience amazing!
We were seated in the 'cafe' section of the restaurant which is quite delightful. Service and food were very good. Only downside was the noise level from a large nearby group - not sure if anything can be done about that but it detracted from the cozy cafe vibe. Otherwise would recommend it.
My 3rd Visit and I would certainly come back again! Great food, ambience and service!
On the edge of Yaletown. Good, attentive service. A small, cozy outdoor seating area. The snacks and starters are great for small appetites or combining two for a larger portion. Highly recommend the crab & avocado salad. Interesting presentation and tasty. My friend had 2 snacks, the maple leaf pork belly and the crispy chicken skins and would recommend for flavours.
We did notice a long table in the upper area which would be good for small groups. Many of the tables in the upper area are tall tables & chairs. These are not the most comfortable for dining but the lower area, at the corner of Smythe & Homer, has regular sized tables all of which can be reserved.
Best baked chicken skin! Too bad they sell out fast. Best seating for 4 persons, we had a family dinner, and it was perfect. The day we went the indoor exhaust was not strong enough, the rotisserie chicken smell would likely lingered on clothing. Very pleasant dining outdoors that day, so opted for that. They have heaters so we felt comfortable throughout the dinner.
Great for after theatre meal. We arrived early as our show ended early. We also had an extra person on tow. We were quickly and easily accommodated. The food and service were great.
A very pleasant meal with fine service. The chicken liver mousse was divine.
So for all the hype it was lackluster at best. Two of us ordered the avacado and spinach benedict and the others the pork belly sausage combo. The food was good. The toast was burnt and the servers seemed uninterested. I would go back to sit outside and have drinks but that's about it.
A wonderful dinner on a beautiful patio. Excellent service by our waiter, Eric, and we would definitely go back and recommend to friends.
Our second visit was as delightful as our first. If you're looking for calm and quiet, this is not your spot--but we were there early for a pre-show dinner and the noise-level was comfortable. As before, service was prompt, thoughtful, and friendly but unobtrusive. We shared 2 delicious appies at the Happy Hour price, then on to 2 excellent seafood entrees: the scallops and a halibut special. The lemon tart and a good strong coffee topped off a thoroughly delicious meal--all of it nicely timed to get us to the theatre on time. Simple but elegantly presented food, expertly and hospitably served. We'll be back again.
