Really good food and atmosphere. Perfect for those of us with eating restrictions or a different lifestyle. The service was 'meh,' our guy was really slow however overall I think we'd definitely go back.
Overall it was good. But fryed Potatoes in plane plants pots taste good, but lookes weird. Good beer selection.
It is great that Home Grown has a Gluten Sensitive menu. So important these days. Our server was delightful and made the lunch even more enjoyable.
Great selection of ingredients - healthy and delicious!
Pre- theater. U OF D
Home Grown is usually a go-to favorite of mine when I visit from New York, but with a new chef and a new menu, I'm not as impressed with the vegan options. Overall, the food was good (I got the "bang bang" rice bowl), but I miss the old menu!
Home Grown has offered consistently very good to outstanding food since they opened. They had a little menu issue a few years ago but that seems to have been cleared up. They appear to have tweaked their mushroom soup recipe in my most recent visit, making it THE BEST mushroom soup I have ever had, including that at Longwood Gardens.
Food selection is great. Our go to restaurant on Newark when we attend plays at U OF D. Sometimes the service is slow and forgetful. Can wait a while getting coffee / check.
Great Vegetarian menu!!! Lots of variety! Great wait staff!
Our server was funny, personable and recommended some great choices. Our party was made up of out of town visitors there for business.
First time dinning there. Nothing special. Mushroom soup was very sour. All rice bowls were spicy. Unfortunately no one told this to us and my children could not eat their dinner after long day at the swim meet. Got mojito for myself, it was very mediocre. Will not go there again.
Sunday brunch was yummy, and Homegrown's menu is always very interesting. I got the quiche with the side salad. The quiche was very good but the salad was a little boring. I experienced BRUNCH ENVY when I saw my husband's meal -- the veggie omelet with home fries. Wish I had gotten that! It was a little loud in the restaurant because it was Parents' Weekend at U of D so the place was a little jammed. Glad we had a reservation! Even still, our server was prompt, friendly and attentive. I would recommend Homegrown to family and friends. B+
The Dirty Burger was the best burger I've ever had!
The food was amazing! I would definitely go back again. They have something for everyone. They are vegan & vegetarian friendly but also have meals with bacon! The buffalo cauliflower were fabulous!
Another good meal with good service. Great options for vegetarians.
Our server was the most pleasant one we've ever experienced. She went out of her way to be friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. She truly added to the dining experience.
Great Service and Food was delicious and filling. Everyone enjoyed what they selected and was will to share their selection.
Food was great. Matt our server was very attentive. This was our second visit and we were not disappointed.
For the most part, the menu is neutral with regard to protein preference: there is no "vegetarian selections" section apart from the "regular" menu, for example. Most entrees are described in terms of their non-protein ingredients, then a selection of protein choices are shown. This allows diners to create their own meals around dining preferences without feeling directed or judged for those choices. I have been there multiple times and have sampled both meat-based and vegetarian selections and find the quality and flavor of everything to be wonderful. Some people feel very strongly about their dietary choices and may not appreciate an establishment that caters so neutrally to all, but for anyone looking for a balance of food choices or to accommodate a diverse group of friends or relatives, Home Grown can't be beat.
Home Grown is consistently good - with fresh ingredients and a creative menu. It was the first time a friend dined there and she had trouble deciding between several menu items because of the good selections.
Friendly reception, comfortable seating, attentive service, great food!
One of my favorite restaurants. Like the wraps. Very vegetarian friendly. Good selection of beer.
First time for brunch. Extensive choices to satisfy any palette on the menu. Food was good, service a bit inattentive. Would return.
I'll preface this by saying it was VERY busy, but thanks to our Open Table reservation, we were seated right away. I've eaten there on several occasions before, but not in over a year. The service wasn't great on this evening, it was quite slow and kind of inattentive. In their rush, I was given a water glass with a shattered bottom. The food is usually very good, but I wasn't impressed with the beef tips (one of the most expensive things on the menu). Our other guests were happy with their meals (burger, pasta bowl). The french fries and aioli are always a favorite. They also have many gluten free options. The drink menu has unique, but delicious choices. It's nice that they can split the cost of appetizers between guests who have separate checks.
The cocktail menu is fun. I'm a pescatarian and Home Grown is my favorite restaurant in Newark. There are so many and delicious offerings, and I feel good about eating there.
Homegrown's atmosphere speaks wonders about its roots and priorities. The menu is packed with veggie-centric entrees and gives a choose-your-own-adventure option for meats on most dishes. A nice place to go every once in a while - but the price point will keep you from showing up every week.
We came here for Mother's Day Brunch. We love their brunch menu. We were seated and our order taken. Our server clearly forgot my side of vegan sausage, so when she brought out our food I reminded her.
Someone else brought out something I had never seen before--it looked like a fried flat falafel. I did not eat it, and when the server came to clear our plates, I told her I had no clue what it was.
She never came to refill coffee cups, water glasses, or ask how anything was. Those were very expensive coffees we had, since we only got one cup. She saw the sausage was uneaten, yet it was on the bill.
Service was unacceptable.
Home grown really does a great job of different foods. I had the Veggie burger and it was great. Service was excellent, there when you wanted the waiter and not when we were talking. great different foods..
HomeGrown is a unique restaurant on Main St. in Newark DE. Serving healthy unique dishes. We've been going for years and have always been very satisfied with the service, food and ambiance.
Home grown is my place to go in Newark! I never really stray from my usual food: Bahn Mi, pot o fries, house salad. But I always change up the protein and the countless options and combinations make each visit more and more exciting!
We made reservations, but we were still seated next to the door. It was cold and I asked to be moved. The service was quite slow. I was not impressed.
I miss the old Home Grown menu. It is now like an Chipotle where you pick your protein, then your wrap and all the other pieces of your meal. Just not the same. Somewhat disappointed.
We booked our reservation and clearly stated it was our daughter's birthday, and she was vegan. We were seated at a booth with ripped seats (many are in there). They were out of the chile/cinnamon infused simple syrup needed for one of their featured drinks. We ordered and got our food which was very good. We got the bill--nothing for our daughter's birthday. I went to the cashier/hostess and asked if they were aware of her birthday. I was told they do not sing happy birthday, which I said was fine, but were they aware and do they do desserts? She checked out reservation and saw it. She offered to bring out a vegan creme brulee, but we had already paid. We then went to get our parking vouchers, only to be told they were "out."
Good selection of vegan options!
Breakfast was very good. Service attentive. We had the Eggs Benedict and a Tex mex omelet. Bloody Mary's were on the spicy side, which is good. The mix was a perfect consistency, not too thick, not watery. And no ridiculous piling on of the garnished. Excellent.
There are many more interesting things on the menu since I was last there. The cauliflower 'wings' were fantastic as was the tempura avocado taco. Will definately go back soon!
Very enjoyable quick dinner. Eclectic menu with lots of options.
Went for Sunday brunch at noon. They were not busy - half full with plenty of staff. Server was prompt to take order - never came back - waited a very long time for food. Order was incomplete so had to flag down another server. Food was semi warm. Toast was burnt, potatoes (fries) leather on the outside - mush in the middle. Overeasy egg was cold.
This place does not live up to it's online hipe - not even close.
Brunch is the best at Homegrown. So many different spins on classic items and it is always delicious. Service is good and servers are helpful and give their opinions.
