Hollins House - Pasatiempo Golf Club Ratings and Reviews
My Monterey sole was delicious, and my husband's lamb shank was one of the best he's ever had. The wine list was quite good, and our server was outstanding. The ambience was warm and welcoming, with a spectacular view. We had an early dinner, so it was quiet and very amenable to conversation. It's one of our very favorite restaurants, and the perfect place for date night for 28-year marrieds--very romantic!
Once again we love to dine at holidays. The Dining Room was festive and beautifully decorate. We always like the menu but appreciated the evening entree special of duck confit with grilled vegetables. Best of all, Hanna, the new server was friendly and attentive. Very nice evening.
the menu in the dining room is perfect, and we found it difficult to choose an entree and salad since everything looked so good. We each had a different entree, and all three were fabulous. Chef JP and his staff have improved the quality of food at Hollins House 100! We look forward to going back soon since we're local.
The food was delicious and very high quality, and the choices plentiful and beautifully presented. The service was attentive and efficient. It was pricey enough that it was fine for a special occasion (Thanksgiving) but more than we would ordinarily spend on brunch.
The food here was good, and the servers all provided good service. However, the kitchen was awful. First we had a cheese plate. When we were done with that, we had to wait over 30 minutes for our entrees. No one came over to tell us our food would be there soon. It was not a good experience. I couldn't wait to get out of there so we skipped dessert. We were afraid of how long it would take to arrive..
We have had a number of dinners here over the past couple of years and have always had an a completely enjoyable evening. The food and wait staff are both always great.
It is one of the places we go when we want more than just great food, but want a special evening.
Hollins House offers a beautiful view of the Santa Cruz Coast from atop a green knoll
on the Pasatiempo Golf Course. It is well known as a desirable location for weddings
and other events where environment is as important as service and quality foods.
We started our evening in the bar where we watched the shoreline fade into the dusk and
chatted with an amiable waiter. The service personal were very hospitable and
on point. We choose a bottle of wine which followed us to our table. This is a white table
cloth and candles restaurant.
After we were seated we were offered warm bread with oilve oil and a balsamic reduction.
Musing over the menu we noticed that it was not as large as we expected. The entrees were interesting but there was no pork or veal on the menu. We had a nice butter lettuce salad that we split ($2). Our entries were a Braised Lamb Shank and a Mushroom Pappardelle. Both were
large portions of well made, rich goodness. They were very satisfying but not sensational.
The price of each entree was moderate; hovering at about $28.
Overall we enjoyed our evening at Hollins House. The property could use some freshening.
The service was very well timed and attentive. The wine list looked adequate but to be
honest, we knew what we wanted and found it without checking the list carefully. Parking
was easy and plentiful. This would be a great place to take your family for a quiet dinner
The food was outstanding. I ate one of the best risottos I have ever eaten and the crab cakes were very very tasty. Outside dining was lovely and service was excellent. Dining room had an inviting fireplace but could use a little more decoration-- paintings, flowers, some fresh colored paint- something to make it as excellent as the food.
WE had a delicious dinner! Everything was perfectly prepared. I ordered the scallops with risotto. The scallops were cooked to perfection, the risotto was creamy and perfectly seasoned.
The staff was warm, inviting, knowledgeable and unobtrusive. We were given a window table with a view of Monterey Bay, so lovely
Was excited to go as I had heard great things but wasn't very impressed. Sat outside and it is an amazing view and grounds were lovely but tables/chairs are old and uncomfortable and they need to invest in some better furniture. It was dark adn had to ask for candles as we couldn't see our food. Food came out 30min late but they ended up comping our dessert which was nice. Scallops were great but lamb shank was too salty. Waitress was nice and doing her best but not what I was hoping for.
We frequently have dinner at the Hollins House. We prefer the patio when the weather allows. The view is SCs best, and the heat lamps keep us warm as we watch the fog rolling from the bay. Last night was almost perfect. We had two appetizers and shared an entre. My poke bowl was fresh and perfect. My partner's soft pretzel" is different and he enjoyed it too. We shared a pasta with wide noodles, filet and cream fraise that was terrific. The service was excellent. We will continue to love the patio as we move into the early Fall.
Food and ambience were wonderful. It's one of the very few really good local restaurants where the noise level is low, so good dinner conversation can easily accompany a good meal. Service is usually very good; this time it was absolutely great, thanks to our server Angel.
This is a golf course/country club restaurant. VERY old-school. Good maybe great food;
very nice service. Decor and ambience something your parents or grandparents might have
once enjoyed, but very out of date.
Pretty setting if you like country clubs.
This was quite good, but it depends on what you're looking for. For my wife and I it was
an enjoyable dinner; mid-4's range.
The patio seating with its view over the golf course and down to Santa Cruz and the Bay was fantastic, BUT for the meat bees that swarmed our table until the neighboring table's beef dish arrived (we had fish!).
Service was very friendly and pleasant but not as polished as it should be for such an establishment. When asked if we wanted more bread (which was very good so we said yes), the empty bread basket and plate of olive oil and basalmic were removed. A new basket of bread arrived without replacement olive oil - a small but important detail. Sangria refills came back slowly. I did like my waiters friendly attitude and enthusiasm, though.
I had the gnocchi, which had a very delicious sauce. I would have liked the gnocchi a little more pillowy, but still, the dish was very good. My wife's halibut on risotto was fine, but not stellar. She would have preferred the plating to be in a shallower bowl rather than the deep bowl it came in.
Overall it was a very pleasant experience. Thank you for the Groupon!
What a view! Sat on the back deck looking at the Monterrey Bay while we ate. Both of us had salads. I also had the Lamb meatballs with Baba Ganoush. Wonderful! My husband had the divers scallops on a bed of the most delicious risotto. Waitress was slow but the rest of the staff was efficient. Will return.
Drinks were very good, most of food was excellent, loved the halibut dish, the only down side was the filet mignon wasn't tender as I would have expected for $36. Seemed like another cut entirely. Dessert was ok. View was excellent and definitely somewhere quiet enough to take my grandmother.
