If you want a dining experience that has it all this is the diamond in the rough service is top notch ambiance is what is expected for such a historical site the view is paramount most important the culinary experience let's not forget to mention the mixologist behind the bar
Your wait staff was personable, conversational, and very professional. They were very welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed ourself. We interacted, mainly, with Angel, Vanessa, and Jason.
We were a party of 4 and were seated outside on time. The bill was a shocker as $72 gratuity was added without our consent! I only see this kind of automatic gratuity added for parties of 6 or more, not 4! I am not sure if we will ever come back as we did not like this at all!
Great view of the golf course and the Pacific ocean, fantastic food and service and a great finale after golfing! I will be back with my wife as the evening could not have been more perfect!
THIS was a special occasion, but we do every day dining here too. GREAT Manager. GREAT Staff. GREAT Menu. GREAT Atmosphere!
We've been to the Hollins House on several occasions, but our last visit is just that. Our last. First of all, they did not have halibut, so 3 people had to order something that they really didn't want. (The Safeway isn't that far away) Two were satisfied, but the gnocchi and accompanying food was bland and the scallops rested on a mushy risotto that I couldn't eat. I took it home for the dog who won't eat it either. In short, we won't be back.
Excellent food. Very innovative and well-presented. Good service
we have been there a number of times. The food was outstanding, however the service was slow. Perhaps the kitchen was short staffed. Still a great place and we will be back.
Great setting....especially late in the day before dark. Very quiet (not crowded on a Tuesday early evening). Service attentive though our waitress was all business (seemed a bit new / uncomfortable). Food good and plentiful. Had the beet salad (excellent...large..almost a meal) as well as the Halibut (again, large portion.... but was over-seasoned, at least for me). 4 of us and everyone happy with their dinners. Price came to approx $300 including tip (had 2 glasses wine and 4 glasses of beer and one dessert). I would go back...especially after an afternoon round of golf. Nice way to end the day!
You can't beat the view of the Monterey Bay from the Hollins House, no matter what the weather is. With two fires burning at either end, the dining room is warm, welcoming, and quiet. For those who want a livelier atmosphere, the Tap Room always seems to be hopping. The farm-to-table food is delectably creative without being pretentious. My duck breast entree, beautifully presented, was perfectly cooked: slightly crispy on the outside, yet tender and pink inside. The blackberries added just the right counterpoint to this dark meat fowl. Our server was attentive without hovering. I can't wait to go back for the fried chicken, which is new on the menu.
Food was transcendent, ambiance is beautiful. We had 3 appetizers, 3 entrees and 2 desserts, each more flavorful and decadent than the last. We will definitely be returning
All around, a wonderful dining experience. Food was imaginative and delicious.
Really great service and innovative menu. View is gorgeous!!
Everything was wonderful as always. The 30 hr cooked rib was not as tender as one might expect but that was it! I t was a beautiful view and all else was amazing!! Try the sourdough pretzel it’s amazing instead of bread.
Excellent food. JP is an amazing Chef! The Hollins House is always a great experience.
The Hollins House is a GREAT spot for any occasion. Angel was our server and did an outstanding job. We will be back soon!
Consistently wonderful and innovative dishes and the tap room is cozy and the patio has a gorgeous view.
Delightful evening. Tasting menu. Mostly good.
Excellent food, wine and service. In a beautiful environment. What a jewel!
Terrific Valentine’s Pre Fixe dinner. Excellent!!!
A wonderful dining experience
This is the best kept secret in the Monterey Bay area for those who appreciate fine dining and everything that comes along with it. I can only compare it to a wonderful dinner we had at Spruce in SF last year, and on every score it was as good and much quieter, and much easier to get a reservation at.
Every menu item I have had on my two visits there recently was impeccably created, flavored and presented. Every staff member had the kind of training rare in the Santa Cruz area...polite, helpful, knowledgeable, going the extra mile in every way, and yet quiet and unintrusive.
HH has a long history and over the almost 50 years I have lived in Santa Cruz it was mostly a stuffy, old fashioned and just OK. But since John Paul Lechtenberg (JP) took over 4 years ago, I started to hear good words about HH though it took me until a couple of months ago to trust that enough to try it out.
Fine dining is not for everyone and after all, this is Santa Cruz, where a certain flair for uniqueness is often more popular than a demand for consistency and quality, which is why locals who seek out the kind of food they find in major US cities usually drive to another county for their best meals.
So a quiet refuge with a stunning menu, wine selection and impeccable service is something of a hard sell in this town. I was concerned when we ate there this week and practically had the elegant dining room to ourselves, and I hope Hollins house can thrive here at this level. Part of the problem may be self-inflicted; Hollins House is a major wedding and event venue, so their public calendar is difficult to figure out (says they are open for dinner weekly only Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, which makes it tough on people who work, and even then the weekdays are not always open, and the occasional weekend hours difficult to spot). The interactive online calendar does not work, so to be sure, you should book on Open Table as they have accurate info.
I asked for a special request and the chef JP agreed. The food was excellent. They also make a variety of really delicious salads.
We were at Hollins House for their New Years tasting menu. It was outstanding as well as the wine pairings! Each course was well prepared, beautifully plated, and very delicious!!
Made a reservation for 6 and was seated at the bar area, not in the main room. Make sure to specify where you want your table when making a reservation. Scallops were good. Asked for medium meat dish. It cam rare and hard to chew. No espresso coffee. Overall an OK experience, but overprices for being seated at noisy bar area.
Food is good not fantastic. The service from everyone was very very good. The food had a great appearance and presented well. Just not blown away by the flavors. The ambiance is very nice and the views amazing. Place is very very nice and clean. I will come again for the experience
The food is superb. Creative flavors that satisfy even the most picky foodie! The wait staff is attentive without rushing you. Great place for a special occasion or wanting to impress visitors.
Best view in Santa Cruz!
Our favorite place.
Very good service and great food! 👍🏼
Both of our dishes were delicious and the service was top-notch. We love Hollins House and are never disappointed.
Hollins House has long been a favorite. But lately, something has gone wrong. Last two visits: extraordinarily slow service, cocktails taking 20 minutes to arrive, cold entrees, etc. Hearing the same from others. Too bad, because HH was one of the few remaining great fine dining restaurants in SC County.
Golf and dinner with 7 Golding buddies
Exceptional chef who uses local ingredients and is very innovative. The specials are always amazing! The venue is beautiful with gorgeous views of the bay and the staff is very pleasant and attentive. This is one of our favorite 3 restaurants in the Santa Cruz through Aptos area.
Never fails! Wish they were open every night.
Service is super. Everyone is knowledgeable, friendly and needs are always anticipated. Food is always fresh and delicious. The menu changes often which is a lot of fun. Seasonal changes and unique, thoughtful presentations.
A wonderful gem.
A bit overpriced. Good, for the most part. Creative entree, but halibut was a bit dry. Fois gras was amazing.
Hollins House has not disappointed us yet. Service is great. Cocktails and food are superb. We love how it's not very noisy. The view is not to shabby as well.
The food is outstanding; excellent chef and friendly staff. Good wine selection, too. Nice atmosphere that allows conversation.
We went to Hollins House for our anniversary. I can't say how very PLEASED we were with the meal! The service was friendly but very professional. The zin we ordered on our wait person's recommendation was fantastic. The meal was divine and the prices were surprisingly reasonable! We'll be eating there again.
Outdoor dining is amazing this time of year. Fantastic sunset and post sunset environment. Our two main courses were not very good and not worthy of a restaurant of this caliber or in this location. Chef's salad was good and chocolate moose was over the top delicious.
This was the place we were married at! I took my husband for his birthday! They did not disappoint ! We had the best service, the chef made a special vegan entree that was wonderful! The ambiance is always beautiful!! I love coming here, we will be back!
