Hollins House - Pasatiempo Golf Club Ratings and Reviews
Great service! Food was so-so. The salads were okay. The entrees were questionable. I ordered the scallops which were incredible, but the lamb shanks were something I would take home for the dog. If you are offering lamb don't do lamb shanks, but have better quality lamb in a better way. Like lamb chops with a mint sauce with a great side like asparagus, not orzo with nothing else and no great sauce.
I'm sure all of my input means nothing to you, and i am wasting my time responding to your questions. ignore what I say, but stop sending questions pretending that you care about what people really want!
Always a treat to dine at the Hollins House restaurant. Every course of the meal was delicious and tastefully (no pun) arranged. The staff are friendly, courteous, eager to assist and answer questions or make suggestions. As an added bonus the view of the entire Monterey Bay is a spectacular bonus.
This was the 5th time we've been in the last couple years and every time we go we remark that we surely need to go more often. The food continues to be outstanding. On this visit I had BY FAR the best onion soup I have ever had (delicious and NOT overly salty) and a crab bucatini that had a nice, citrus-y snap to it but you could easily taste the crab. Our guests loved the house-made gnocchi with butternut squash and halibut with clams. Good cocktails, lovely desserts. And the setting just can't be beat. Why this place isn't constantly packed remains a mystery because, while somewhat more traditional than some SC places, in every aspect it's outstanding and no other restaurant can begin to match the view, ambience or low noise level. My friends said not to write toooo good a review because we don't want it to get crowded! But we DO want it to succeed. Don't think twice: GO! You won't be sorry.
We have frequented this restaurant often over the last 39 years.
We were very disappointed in the cost of the brunch. The food was good but the extra charge for a second glass of champagne was outrageous. Maybe that's why the restaurant and outdoor seating areas were almost EMPTY from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 on such a special day.
$65 per person is too much.
Celebrating our Daughters 23rd Birthday. The food was fabulous. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. He gave us a couple of recommendations, and confirmed we made good choices for our meal (I think it was easy because there are probably no bad choices here!)
On the Thursday evening we visited, the restaurant was nearly empty and we had a table with a view of Santa Cruz and the bay. The cocktails were also very good. If the restaurant was full, the noise level might e somewhat higher but I expect it will still be relatively quiet.
We went to Hollins House to celebrate 2 birthdays. We had not been there in awhile so I forgot just how wonderful it is. We were seated at a great table, right next to the window overlooking the golf course and ocean beyond. A beautiful setting and view. The special sounded too good to resist - 3 out of 4 of us ordered it. And it more than fulfilled our expectations! Beef Stroganoff with porcini mushrooms and smoked creme fraiche on housemade pappardelle noodles. My husband had scallops. We shared dishes and it was awesome.
Dessert was the best chocolate molten cake I've had - perfect for my birthday. And complete with caramel ice cream. YUM!
We had a fabulous dinner. The appetizers were fantastic - crab cakes for him, pear salad for me. The pear salad was artfully presented as well as delicious. Then we both had filet mignon, cooked exactly to our orders. The servers were attentive without being overbearing, and were knowledgeable about the food and the wine. The view was an added, but gorgeous plus. We were celebrating our 30th Anniversary, so a very special occasion. And, that was where we were married so it made it even more special. Highly recommend this for a special evening out.
Our family really enjoyed the Easter Sunday brunch this year. I am typically not a fan of holiday brunch menus. I often find them overpriced and the food just okay. But the Hollin's house was an exception. A bit pricey, but the quality of food and service was very high. In addition to enjoying the fine buffet, our family visit was very relaxing. We never felt rushed, having had plenty of time to catch up with each other, during the meal. All tables appeared to be filled with families for the holiday. Unusually rainy this Easter, the ambience was warm and cozy inside. Would have been lovely to be seated outdoors had the weather been nicer.
We thoroughly enjoyed wine, delicious appetizers (crab cakes were the best) and a wonderful dinner with our wine group. Our server, Makayla, was personable, knowledgeable, efficient and attentive.
We will definitely return, to enjoy more of the Chefs beautiful and tasty creations
This was one of the best choices we could have made for our dinner on a Friday night to celebrate our anniversary. The entrees were extraordinary - with very thoughtful presentations. Our waiter - Angel was outstanding and very helpful throughout the meal.
We will most certainly return to try out an afternoon lunch in the near future.
We got the best table in the house - spectacular view. The wait staff was excellent - very attentive and offered a free dessert since it was our anniversary (but we did not accept). The presentation of the food was beautiful - very artistic but sadly lacking in much taste. My petrale sole stuffed with crab smelled fishy and was very bland - no sauce. The pear salad was tasty and priced appropriately. French onion soup nothing special and gnocchi dish decent but wouldn't order it again. I would give the food a C+ and the ambiance and staff an A. Wish they still had short ribs on the menu - but they had been removed in favor of a spring menu. Comfort food should be on the menu year round.
The food is very good, the staff are nice but need better training. I arrived early (5:30) and had a drink in the tap room, where I observed staff congregating and chatting, then walking back into the dining room, over and over. It was slow, I get it, but good management doesn't allow that. Our server was very nice but obsequious, which made our party uncomfortable. A server can be gracious and responsive without being obsequious. Also, it took a remarkably long time for our food to arrive, to the extent that we have to twice go looking for him. Finally, we had to ask that the staff wait until everyone was finished eating before removing empty plates.
This was my third time dining at Hollins House and I continue to be saddened that a venue with such potential lacks the management and staff training that could really make it one of THE go-to spots in Santa Cruz.
