We were disappointed with the food. 3 of us had pies. One of the pies - the curried mutton - was tasteless and the side of sprouts were too hard to eat. I had the chicken pie. The pastry was flabby and it had clearly been microwaved instead of baked. I don't expect microwaved food in a restaurant like this. The food was very slow in coming. All in all a disappointing experience
Thank you for having us it was a great evening. The food was great and tasty!
The dining room felt quintessentially British and we very much enjoyed the pies on the menu which were brought to our attention from seeing Calum Franklin on C4's Sunday Brunch!
Amazing food. Lovely seeing. Excellent service
Had been wanting to visit for a while but left quite disappointed. Environment is very nice, but the food and service left quite a lot to be desired. The pies are good but so so overpriced (£20+) and exclude sides (£6 each) which are in themselves very small portions. It was all very slow too; yes, the pies take 30 minutes to prepare but it felt much longer and taking orders was sluggish. Won't be recommending or returning.
The pie crust was great but the filling was slightly lacklustre. Additionally the pie crust of the mince pies was quite dry.
The starters were really good but we had gone to Holborn Dining Room for the pies. And the cost per pie is quite expensive for what was actually served. Dessert had the potential to be good but failed on execution.
Service and ambience were amazing but we are the sort of people who are very food-centric and therefore did not make up for the average food.
The pies lived up to expectation! They were fantastic and so was the other food that we ordered (squid and burrata). Venue and service amazing. A little loud but it was a Friday night. Will be visiting again, without doubt.
My starter of crab & avocado was excellent. The chicken & tarragon pie was delicious !(Pies do take a while to cook but well worth the wait). Sadly the side dishes were disappointing - the champ was stone cold and Brussels rock hard. Service tailed off after the main and left with no drinks for quite a while . We were not offered dessert ! We had coffee and left.
The place looks great and the atmosphere is great but the food doesn’t quite match the feel of the place. Overall good but not great
Very good fish of the day.
Famed for their pies, our mission was to try all of them. As it was #WellyWednesday, we tried that too.
Best pies we’ve ever had. In a fantastic room. With attentive service it was all fantastic.
We will all be back. More than once
Great team lunch.
Food was lovely - particularly the sides.
The burger was actually a bit much which is not something I usually would say!
Only thing is we had booked a table but had to wait about 25 minutes to be seated... even though we reserved, which wasn't ideal. The service from the staff was very good though! However, the food did take a while and there was a long gap between our starters and our mains.
Food first rate of its sort. Best steak and kidney pudding I have ever had. Service friendly and well intentioned but front-of-house is not the strongest suit. (Reception denied all knowledge of my booking, though I had proof of it.) Drinks expensive and choice surprisingly limited: after two unsuccessful attempts to get a glass of dry sherry we gave up and went straight to a bottle of house red (a carignan, not bad: Pietas from the Hérault - £36 a bottle (£8.25 in the shops – a helluva mark-up)). Still, the steak and kidney pudding is not to be missed.
£29 for the full traditional breakfast is far too much for what it was. A small plate of average ingredients. There was nothing special about the dish that warranted such a high price. I think it's the highest price I've ever paid for a traditional breakfast.
Food was awesome. Wine ridiculous expensive. 15£ per glass for a good Cote du Rhône is remarkable silly.
But the rest was perfect.
Went there for a birthday celebration. From ambience to food to service, everything was perfect! Would definitely come back again!
Could be a great restaurant but our service was very poor. Waited 20 minutes for our table even though it was free. And service of food very slow, a couple that arrived after our starters got their main course at the same time as us. It wasn’t packed when we arrived and the food wasn’t as hot as it should be. A real shame as a beautiful venue.
Was great food and ambience but a bit slow service
Style over substance, although food was good, there was little difference between the food in this restaurant and a decent pub. The quality didn’t justify the price. In addition to this, I’ve rarely had worse service in a restaurant. The waiter was condescending short tempered and inattentive. An hour between each course and a poor service made what should have been a nice evening disappointing.
Good catch up with amazing friend, who had never visited Holborn Dining Room. She loved it
Whilst the service was excellent, I was disappointed that on a Friday evening at 8pm the restaurant had run out of mash and champ, so we had some fries and bread to mop up the delicious gravy.
Hard to believe, running out of potatoes!
Also had run out of our first choice of wine.
The waiting staff were put in a difficult position having to tell us this.
Very enjoyable evening. Service and staff attentiveness was very good. The service charge at 12.5% was a bit high. We pointed out that our bar drinks hadn’t been included in our bill and I would have perhaps hoped that they would have only charged for one and not both, especially as I had decided to be honest about it. 12.5% service charge was also added to the drinks.
That said, it was a birthday celebration for my wife that we did enjoy
Great pies. Very cool inside and lots going on. A little loud
The BEST beef wellington in existence. EVER.
The rest of the experience was also great, but the food is something else!
Table was cramped, service was really poor. I was on a client breakfast and kept having to ask for tap water, cutlery, condiments, the bill etc. which shouldn't be the case at a restaurant of this calibre. Was a very weird experience. Shame
Excellent choice for Sunday lunch. Best traditional pork pie I have ever eaten! Highly recommend!
Really nice people & staff food was wonderful full of flavour nicely priced cocktails perfect the whole experience was great the sitting of the whole place the atmosphere was charming will be returning in the new year
Amazing service and fabulous food. We both had pie as we had heard how good they were and we were not disappointed.. can't wait to go back again
Bubbly atmosphere with plenty of chatter from all of the busy tables. Lights were a bit too dim to easily read the menus, but it did help create a private environment. Lovely surprise birthday dessert brought out for my boyfriend.
Lovely décor and fun albeit loud atmosphere, service friendly and attentive. The low rating is driven by the food - both my friend and I had over cooked food and it was expensive. I had fish and chips and the batter was hard and thick with the fish totally dry from being overcooked - for £20 plus service charge for fish and chips I was expecting better things!
Great ambiance and venue. Wholesome comfort food and good service
Favorite place for Wellington on Wednesday’s.
The food was very good, but the noise made it virtually impossible to enjoy a discussion with my dining partner.
Atmosphere was buzzy (on the loud side, but we enjoyed that). Great food, attentive service. Didn't stay for dessert but everything we tried was fab, esp. pies and grilled octopus. Not the cheapest, but as long as you know that going in, not an issue.
Pies ahoy! Seriously all the food is good and the service was excellent - we had a great time!
We dined with 4 people at Holborn Dining room. The starter was great. We shared Oysters at the table. The fish and ribeye was very good but sirloin steak was a bit dry - even though I ordered medium rare- and too thick in my opinion. Ambiance is really nice and the service was perfect.
The whole team we wonderful, attentive and friendly! The food was delicious and those pies are dreamy. The Bacchus was a treat and shame it was the last bottle! Thanks for a great evening!
Lovey food and great service. Very elegant room
The pies were incredible (it was the reason we went, to try them!). When we arrived it was fairly quiet but we were still sat in the corner of the restaurant next to some of the only other people in the room and they seemed to be having a business meeting. Seeing as there were few people in the restaurant when we arrived, it would've been nice to have a better table but it was no detriment to the evening. The service was really friendly but dinner felt a tad rushed - we were in and out in about an hour and 15 mins.
Overall, prices on the high side, table allocation a bit odd but the food and the ambience was well worth the visit and I would definitely recommend pie lovers to dine here :)
