Holborn Dining Room
The menu, comprised of traditional British dishes made from the finest locally sourced ingredients, is divided into eight sections: Bar Snacks, Cold Counter, Hot Counter, Grill, English Kitchen, Sides, Sandwiches and Afters. Enjoy some of the best London dining at the Holborn Dining Room.
As usual the food (we both had a fairly light lunch of smoked haddock) was very good; in particular their mash is always very tasty! The service is always excellent from the elegantly attired staff.
This was my first time at Holborn and sadly was externally disappointed. A table of 3 on a Saturday night, we were put almost in the corner of the restaurant and most definitely forgotten about. Starters took little over 45 mins to arrive after having to flag down a waiter to place our order. We had 3 different pies when the mains arrived and all were dry sadly. Had high expectations for this meal but sadly didn’t deliver and over priced.
Perfect, amazing venue great no fuss food, impeccable service.
Lovely meal, great service and the best pie i've had in my life: comfort food for the soul. The wine list is excellent, too. Also there are often some real gems to be found here by the glass thanks to coravin. Another super dinner: many thanks to the team who looked after my friend and I on Friday evening.
Excellent Mutton and Potato pies and wonderful ambience
Lovely relaxed restaurant with high quality food and a diverse, but not overlong menu. Classically British food (buttered shrimps; pork belly; steak and kidney pudding; dover sole etc.) cooked well. Value falls down when nearly every dish requires additional purchase of two sides and the service was a little slow, but this was weekday lunchtime so perhaps to be expected. Relatively easy converse across a table for six so the noise level is tolerable for such a large space. You MUST have the truffle and parmesan fries.
£130 for scotch egg, small pie and a couple of pints for two people seemed over priced. Great location and service but wouldn't go again.
Food was over priced and not very good. Poor presentation. You can get a better pie at a pub for one third the price pkus tge pub will give you sides. Skip this one.
I am fairly sure that they served the best steak and kidney pudding I have ever had!
Great venue for business meetings. Thought the lighting was slightly darker than the photo. Service was excellent, food was very good. Their pies being their highly recommended dish, was good but perhaps i was expecting a little more. I would certainly agree it’s unique and innovative. Also good variety of wine lists, a little on the higher price but the location of the restaurant justify the cost. Staff were very helpful and welcoming. I’d be keen to try out other dishes.
Birthday dinner - great for a catch up with friends.
Deeply disappointing. The venue is stunning and the staff were fantastic. My salt and pepper squid starter was soggy and oily and not very impressive for such a well reviewed place. My sirloin steak (30 day aged Cornish) was bone dry, almost burnt on outside and rare on inside and deeply lacking in flavour or interest. Even after couple of dishes removed from the bill,it came to nearly £200 for 2, only one of us drinking. Will not be back sadly which is a shame as a stunning dining room in Central London location. Wines and digestive list excellent and great recommendation from the Sommelier.
Looked great on insta, reality is slightly below par, value for money is poor. I didn't finish my £23 pie because it wasn't very nice. The starters were excellent. Noisy. Not enough room on tables. Patchy service.
A group of four went to The Holborn Dining Room for a birthday meal. The setting is lovely and the service outstanding throughout. Helpful, attentive staff without being overbearing. The starters of lobster thermidor tart and grilled octopus were excellent. The curried mutton pie was lovely and one friend thought the belly pork was very good. The parmesan and truffle fries were lovely. At £6 the sides seem expensive, particularly given the small vegetable portions. The wine list is extensive, however, you will struggle to find when bottles under £40, although they do also sell wine by the carafe.
Our waiter noticed it was one of our groups birthday and brought a small cake at the end of the meal. Overall we had a lovely meal and evening. Can thoroughly recommend for a special occasion.
Great for a business lunch which then moved into the bar area! Great service and what a gin menu!!
Had my Birthday lunch here. The steak and Kidney pudding was to die for. Our waiter, Marius, was very attentive. Classy place. I will definitely be back.
The Guardian review encouraged us to to try it. We found the food was good but not amazing and the prices ridiculous
Great pies probably best in London. Very good sides. Lovely desserts. Very good attentive service. Unfortunately the dining room is far too dark which made it very difficult to see the wonderful food.
Tables just a tad on the small side for all the crockery, cutlery, glasses, then food, wine & water, but we lived with it even though there were many tables free with more space for the four of us, as everything we each had was excellent. Rather pricey, and the gents got served all the wine! I think the waitress assumed we would be having a second bottle, but we didn’t have the time unfortunately and the girls ended up having to be the chauffeurs for the evening! I had been before, but it was our friends first time and I don’t think they’ll be rushing back. Still, a lovely meal, but it was the company that made it extra special on this occasion.
Went to this restaurant as we had been told it's chef's specialty was pastry and pies. The choice of pies was very limited, so disappointing. The table we had was in a corner and felt excluded from the main restaurant.
Two attempts at Steak, First Rib Eye was not seared and very fatty. Replacement Sirloin was hard and tasted a bit like pork.
The owner needs to look at his beef cookery and provenance (I believe that the meat was from a dairy rather than beef bred animals) and fell far short of the expectation that the ambiance and service suggested.
Our second visit and they did not disappoint! Amazing meal from start to finish. We will be back!
The restaurant receptionist was incompetent. Had called 20 minutes before arrival to reconfirm reservation and inform I was running 5 minutes late. On arrival she could not speak English well enough to understand my name when given. She could not find my reservation even after a couple attempts to locate on her tablet. I had to point it out. At which point she said someone else had apparently arrived earlier and taken my reservation in my name. This demonstrates huge incompetence on her part. Also, meant we had to stand there while she confusedly conferred with her slightly less incompetent colleague and eventually we were allocated a fairly poor table by the entrance and til point. This shocking lapse was embarrassing for me whilst on a date and is not what one would expect from a high class restaurant.
Fortunately the food was excellent.
Sadly the service from the waiters was equally poor. One informed me he’d just started working there and then casually asked me where I lived and which football team I supported and tried to strike up a conversation. Shocking and overfamiliar. Extremely unimpressed by this behaviour.
Locale dell’atmosfera decisamente British, cibo squisito, vasta scelta di vini ed infinita di gin, personale di sala (diversi ragazzi italiani) cordialissimo, prezzo in linea con l’offerta e con Londra.
Ci tornerei sicuramente!
Love Holborn Dining Rooms. Great food and thank you for being dog friendly 🐾
Outstanding service, beautiful setting and absolutely fabulous food- the perfect evening out!
Great location and setting. Service was a little bit slow at first but picked up after talking to the Maitre'd. We chose from the Pie Menu. Main recommendation is ask for gravy!
Service was a little slow
Went for birthday dinner, was great! Special shout out to our attentive waitress Nina, she went above and beyond for us, taking our photos, checking in and helping us choose from the menus. Will be back again!
Service glacial. Had to wait an age for each course. Food mediocre at best. Will not return.
We had a lovely meal at the restaurant and staff were very attentive.
Probably the best steak and kidney pudding I’ve ever had.
Would definitely recommend.
Brilliant service and the food was perfect. Thanks for a great experience.
Great food, hot & fresh. Superb atmosphere & setting. Staff fantastic, very attentive. Will return. Totally recommend.
We came for Boxing Day dinner for their fresh seafood and cottage pies. The service started off slow but finished well. We had some great oysters to start and each had a different cottage pie for which they are known. All food was excellent. Recommended.
Enjoyable. Will return.
We had our Christmas dinner at the Holborn Dining Room. The overall experience was amazing !
The service was exceptional - friendly and very attentive.
The food was delicious.
I would definitely book again.
Food was very good as to be expected and not too expensive. One plus side is that the restaurant offers valet parking which in this part of London is very useful given the lack of parking spaces available nearby. Only drawbacks I would say are that the live music was a bit too loud, the tables on the small side and most importantly the portions being so generous was difficult to finish but the staff wouldn't pack anything in a takeaway bag for later, saying it was their policy, which seems strange as most other restuarants do this.
The service was completely off their game, not quite rude, but inattentive, unhelpful and unprofessional. It was very disappointing as it was one of my girlfriend’s favourites and she was looking forward to going. They portions were mean (one 1/2 slice of bread per person!!) and the mutton pie was tiny!
We’d booked for the Sunday before Christmas so it was particularly quiet, with less than a half dozen tables occupied, no doubt this was peaceful, as can imagine noisy when full, but this also meant it was rather lacking in atmosphere!
The service was spot on, staff efficient and professional.
Food was good, one steak and kidney pudding and the sea bass fillet were chosen and enjoyed. We started with the award winning scotch eggs, which I found rather too salty to be enjoyable!
Didn’t opt for pudding as had a theatre show to attend.
Would I return, probably not, or if so, for a business lunch rather than a celebratory supper.
Great service and atmosphere! Sunday roadt was great and the beef ribs was cooked perfectly. Would definitely recommend!
