Hoku's has a breathtaking beachside setting with panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean from every table in the multi-level dining room.
Hoku's does have a dress code; gentlemen are required to wear covered shoes, sleeved shirt, and long pants. Women may wear sun dresses to elegant evening wear.
Always a wonderful culinary experience.
Great atmosphere, and great food and service!
The food is outstanding. The room itself is too big and too open, so the noice level is somewhat annoying. But overall a great restaurant with excellent food.
Chef's tasting menu provides good variety. Perhaps incorporating a vegetarian option would be perfect for vegetarian or those who like a more balanced diet.
I have been trying lots of fancy restaurants around the world while I am travelling. Hoku's is the only restaurant does not read the occasion for dinner. Since I have made an appointment more than a month ago. Waiter and kitchen does not even know the date I went was my birthday, and want a unforgettable experience with this fancy restaurant in Hawaii. Do not recomend this restaurant!
Service was impeccable but it was crazy expensive and the food was “so so”. We had the seafood tower which was interesting but too high to see what was on the other side of the plate, there was also crab legs that we couldn’t actually eat and no tools were provided to get the crab out of its shell. I had the duck breast which didn’t test all that great and the vegetables were burnt and inedible. My husband had lobster risotto which was even worse then my duck. The risotto wasn’t creamy and down right crunchy. Ambience was great but I’m not sure we would go again as we left hungry after spending upwards of $250. We had such high hopes and celebrated a birthday, what a disappointment.
Lovely oceanview setting, with superb culinary creations, creatively presented.
Very professional service, friendly and engaging but not over the edge.
Beautiful Anniversary Date! Such a intimate dinner and amazing service. I definitely will be coming back for another occassion. The food was delicious and I was impressed with the small portion seafood tower. Highly recommend trying their Ala Cart Menu and making reservations ahead of time. They also provided us a complimentary anniversary dessert. Mahalo Hoku’s for making our special day memorable.
Mary Jane and Tony gave us great service. Had a wonderful 4 hour dinner with friends from the mainland.
Without question the best Sunday brunch on Oahu! The food selection and quality are excellent. Service is also top notch!
My Favorite Sunday Brunch Recommendation
A fabulous view, great staff, OMG food! and always great friends to enjoy it with....what a winning combination.
We usually love Hoku's but this time service was really slow and we felt neglected and forgotten. And the restaurant was half empty. Had to flag down waiters many times for water, to order, etc. They didn't come to take drink orders for a long time, then took forever for the drinks to be served. Same for food, we had to flag them down to order and food took long time. We were told the wait was because we ordered steaks and they have to be grilled. Food was very good, but for this price, expected more attentive service.
Service was terrible. Entrees were disappointing. Seafood tower was good.
The service was very good and food tasted fantastic; desserts were not too sweet, the way we like it. Thank you!
Had a wonderful birthday dinner! The crispy whole fish was excellent! Would definitely recommend.
Our 40th anniversary was full of happy and delicious memories. We had the chef specials and were impressed. Each course was better as the evening procession became a delight.
It was my first experience at Hoku’s. Always heard awesome things about it. We had a super lovely evening. So happy we had a cozy table by the window with an amazing sunset. We felt fortunate to have Taryn and Bob as our wait staff; they were so friendly! Just perfect. Everything from the bread basket and ahi dip to appetizers to our entrees was incredibly delicious! Pricey but delicious and realize we’re paying for location, as well. (A kama’aina rate would be welcomed and a nice touch for the locals supporting them, though.) The ambiance was very special. We’ll be back! :)
I wanted to treat my hubby for his bday dinner and indicated on my reservation that the reason for dining was to celebrate a birthday.
We ordered dessert and I asked our server for a candle so I could place it on as my hubby’s bday cake. Waiter apologized for missing that information and quickly returned with a lovely dessert with 2 candles and a chocolate note that said HAPPY ANNIVERSARY. :(
We decided not to trouble him again and just ate the cake.
Although another girl came by and asked how our evening was I I told her my disappointment.
I regret I will not return for any special celebration to avoid any embarrassment and disappointment for my guests.
Great for a romantic evening away from hustle of Waikiki
The only downside to our experience was that our server (Bob) was extremely slow and rude. When asked to split bill between 2 cards he complained that now he had to void out the bill first! Unacceptable behavior when you’re Paying $900 tab! Felt like he was ok with giving us bad service because of the automatic 18% gratuity tacked on for our party. Which is bad on him as we are a family that tips extremely well for awesome service. The other server that assisted us was very attentive.
It was my first time at Hoku's and I totally enjoyed the experience. The staff was very attentive, polite, courteous, and ensured that our dining experience was the best that they could offer. The ambience of the room could not have been better. I regret that I have not tried Hoku's and will be sure to put it on the top of my list for future dining engagements. Please relay our sincere appreciation to the staff for making the birthday celebration a memorable one.
Exceptional chefs tasting menu and wine pairing, top quality service and attention, beautiful facility. Culinary excellence, world class.
Very nice restaurant, but even though we mentioned that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, they never acknowledged. Thought for the price, they would be a little more conscious of special events
Excellent food and atmosphere with lovely setting. Unfortunately our waitstaff was out-of-sync. We were a six-person party for a special 88th birthday and our entrees came out at a staggered pace. Two people in our party who ordered beef entrees were served a good 15 minutes before the three seafood entrees and the last one to arrive was a salad for someone on a diet. More than sub par for a fine dining establishment. Also, a glass of wine ordered with entrees didn't arrive until it was asked for which was another 20 minutes after we started eating. Again, out-of-sync. And the table wasn't cleared of wine glass settings of other diners who didn't drink. It was left on the table for the entire meal, as well as the oishiboris we used after eating the seafood tower appetizer. We had to ask for them to be removed! The service wasn't ever rude or curt, just simply poorly timed and amateur. However, the manager handled it well and recovered nicely for his staff.
My friend and I were looking for a quiet but nearby escape from the hustle and stress of life in downtown Honolulu. We found it at Hoku’s. If you want to get pampered and have one of those rare but memorable, really nice and relaxing nights out just to yourselves then I can’t think of a better place. It was a splurge for us but we plan to make it a regular event.
A wonderful anniversary dinner due to great food, wine and outstanding service by all attending to our table as well as the graciousness of management! A lovely, spacious and nicely appointed dining room overlooking the beach/ocean at the Kahala Resort with elegant tables and a foodie-satisfying menu complete with 3 tasting menu choices as well as ala carte options. Extensive and very good wine list. Friendly and attentive service staff with a nice demeanor and good sense of humor! Couldn't say enough good things about our experience. Highly recommend for a wonderful night out or quiet dinner.
Hoku’s is just amazing. I had the seafood ravioli, never tasted something so good. They were like Italian wontons. Every dish was unique and perfectly cooked. A bonus were the homemade rice crackers in the bread basket, I couldn’t stop eating them. My wife almost cried eating the guava chiffon for dessert. The service is outstanding and last of all it’s at the beautiful Kahala Hotel. I will be going back for the ravioli. Best fish restaurant in Honolulu!!! Don’t miss it.
I would recommend Hoku but make friends aware although food very good the buffet was overpriced for selection of food. We had 1:45 reservations and felt rushed as the server went around informs everyone “last call for food”. An elegant Sunday brunch is vacation tradition for us and @ $78/person I expected a more upscale selection and more variety. Again what I had was very good but overpriced for selection. A mimosa was twenty dollars and I was served a glass of sparkling wine and a glass of orange juice, both full and told I could mix them as I liked. Unheard of. Paid with a visa gift card received as anniversary gift. Bill and tip were 225.00. Checked transactions on card next morning to find the amount had been changed to 239.00 ??
Loved everything about Hoku’s!
From the moment you enter, the service is first class and the surroundings are elegant and soothing. The food is delicious and the wine list is extensive and wonderful. The views of the Kahala’s grounds and the ocean are exquisite.
Food is awesome and like Goldilock's porridge, just right. Beautiful ocean view but I was focused on my date and everything else as the dining experience was awesome. I hadn't been to Hoku's in about 10 years or so and it was spectacular back then as well. I'm already planning my next date as I want to try other things on the menu.
We thoroughly enjoyed the Sunday Brunch at Hoku's. Everything was top quality & fresh. My favorite items were the King Crab legs, lamb chops & smoked salmon. The view was beautiful & tranquil. We chose Hoku's to celebrate my birthday, my husband enjoyed it so much that he wants to go back on his birthday next month. Definitely recommend Hoku's!
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Hoku’s. The view of the beach was the perfect backdrop for our dinner. Our teenaged son loved his seafood ravioli—he said it reminded him of fancy potstickers. We loved everything that we ate, and the restaurant sent us a delectable pistachio dessert. The wine list is great—there’s something for everyone on it. The servings were so big we took some home—we think we will order pupus next time and try even more dishes. Romantic, great for special occasions, family friendly, and easy valet parking!
