We chose this place to surprise my mom for her birthday and it was absolutely perfect. The staff was so kind and helpful on making this happen smoothly. The view and the building is beautiful. The waiter was wonderful and all of our food was delicious. I would def recommend anyone to visit this place, I know I will be back :)
Celebrated 25th anniversary. Not a romantic setting, too loud and open, but all that is available at Suncadia that’s decent these days. The food was not great. The Muscovy duck was really tough. Needed a steak knife just to cut it! Sea bass just okay...not nearly as good as Portals used to serve. Salad greens were too large and tough. Bana Cream pie was amazing!
Brie was not hot. Flatbread was way too salty. Salmon was prepared to perfection.
It was our first date. The whole experience was wonderful. We can not wait to go back again. THX
Wonderful dinner with my husband! The food was good and ambience was great! We were well taken care of and enjoyed ourselves.

Although we came with two little kids they made our dining experience wonderful! Great views, great service, and great food. It’s the only restaurant on the Suncadia resort I have enjoyed.

I had booked the reservation as part of a special birthday celebration. All day in the Spa at Suncadia followed by a special dinner. After booking I called the restaurant & said it was a special birthday & I was told they would make a note & they could seat us near the window overlooking the fire pits. Last year we had been put in a booth & it’s too tight for 5 adults. When we arrived the hostess took us to the same booth. I let her know about the conversation I had with the restaurant staff days before. The restaurant was virtually empty & she told me she couldn’t help me. I then asked the main hostess & she was very dismissive &’said whoever told me I could sit at the windows was mistaken & the booth was our only choice. She also said they don’t put families of 5 at those tables & that table was reserved. I told her I too had a reservation. 1.5 hours later, when we were done our meal, she sat a family of 5 at that table. The wait staff was wonderful. This experience & the interaction left me wondering if we will go back. Dinner was over 300 & the hostess staff were not accommodating.
The food is very good and overall, a lovely venue but the service was slow and our server rarely checked in with our table of 8. A bit frustrating when the 20% tip was automatically included - he didn’t deserve that much of a tip.
Good food, way too smoky. We left with smelly hair and burning eyes. Enjoyed the cedar plank fish, but they need better ventilation if they are going to be cooking that so frequently.
Service was excellent but one of our meals was unacceptable. The rib eye was the worst rib-eye my husband was ever served and the smashed squash on top bland. . The sea bass was under cooked and everyone’s salads blah. Fish Could have used another minute on the grill.
Our other meals were good and my steelhead was fabulous as usual and the clam chowder delicious.
We would have sent the rib-eye back but the restaurant was very busy with the Xmas resort crowd and the Seahawk game going on in the lounge.
Normally we love the restaurant but unfortunately a bad rib-eye unfit to serve.
We had dinner on Christmas Eve night. A family tradition at the hoist house. Great food and excellent service every time.
The food was really off for us. Not well seasoned or satisfying, or over seasoned, or completely bland. My husband's sturgeon dish was fine and the rest were not. The menu really needs a revamp. Desserts were strange as well-- a melted milk chocolate square was plopped above a pear and berry crisp that didn't go together, and the crisp fruit was underdone while the topping was bland. Just a mess. Skillet cookie was o.k. It was better a year ago when we were here. Service was fine and we did appreciate their attempt to seat us earlier than our reservation time.
Caleb was awesome as our server; Mike is excellent as SA. A wonderful evening!
I have eaten fish all over the world and this Resturanti is one of the best at fish.
Steelhead planked salmon was the best fish I have EVER had in a restaurant! It was our anniversary and the hostess and server went above and beyond for us!
Beautiful venue, but updated food menu doesn't really match. Prefer last food menu. Overall good, but to invest in an hour drive from Seattle I personally would be looking for great!
My wife and I invited two couples for my 50th birthday, which I chose to enjoy specifically at the Hoist House. Everyone had a fantastic time and given the atmosphere, enjoyed themselves. I’m suspicious they will be future returning customers. Thank you for the memories!
First impression, we walked into the restaurant and the air was very smoky coming from the kitchen. Not sure if it was a fluke and their ventilation system just wasn’t working properly that night? The service was excellent. Bravo to the staff. Very attentive and accommodating. The cocktail selection was great. A good variety of everything and were very potent and tasty. For $15 a drink, that’s how they should be. Food on the other hand was just good but would expect excellent for the price. Kung Pao Calamari app was the best out of everything we ordered. Pepperoni flatbread was ok, wish we ordered the mushroom instead. Oysters with Dungeness crab as an appetizer? We thought, “yes please...duh?!” but then we were super disappointed as it did not taste fresh — more like it was frozen prior to cooking. And for a $23 appetizer, should have been exceptional. Because we splurged on appetizers and flatbread, we decided to split an entree — the tenderloin. Always a nice touch to split the meal for us on 2 separate plates, which they did. I thought it was great. Meat and sauce were cooked medium well, even tho we asked for medium. But didn’t bother me. Garlicky mash potatoes and asparagus were delicious. But my husband only thought the asparagus was the best part of that meal. So for a $50 entree...should have been 2 thumbs up instead of 1. When my daughter read the kids menu, she was immediately sold on the mac n cheese because the description was beechers cheese which she loves! For those of you who have ever had beechers, their cheese is a white cream sauce. When they served it, it was like a Kraft orange cheese sauce. And it basically tasted like it too. Moral of the story is, if I spend $250 on a meal for 2.5 ppl, I would expect the food quality and taste to be 5 stars. This was more like 3.5 stars. Service gets them to a 4 star and I won’t ding them for our clothes smelling like food smoke post dinner.

The staff was so nice! The cedar plank steel head was absolutely amazing! I've been catching and cooking steelhead for 40 years and this was perfect! You cant control other guests so that is why my noise level was below 5. Just a bunch of people that have to be loud to be noticed!! I recomend the hoist house with a full 5+ stars!
A great, first& time dining experience. Our server/host, Claire was absolutely wonderful and she added to the overall wonderful time.

Our server-She started out doing good We had 3 appetizer-flat Bread smoke sausage-Bake oyster- wagu Beef-bad very bad also follow up with two Claim chowder soup-good and tasty with lot of clam then with 3 main dinner We sent the Wagu beef app. back the outside was chard-burnt-crusty. The redo came back 20 mins later with we almost have our dinner courses half way done, Wagu beef returned it was better(still burn on the outside) but not worth $18.00 we took a bite and left it there. The service went down hill with no attention from our server. We had a birthday celebration and was presented desert compliment on the house the boyboy came back with the dessert it was after 9.30pm and the restaurant was slow noticed that my server was busy talking with another server . Then she presented our checked and never came back to pick it up for cash out after waiting for 15 mins I have to take it to the front desk to pay. That is not acceptable were you claim fine dinning and not a coffee shop and expect us to TIPS you correctly(20% or more) . I understand it was only a few option in Clu Elem area but in a prestigious and fine wine cellar establishment?
We love Hoist House! The atmosphere is beautiful, the food is amazing, and the service is exceptional!
Love everything about the Swiftwater Lodge and dining! The only bummer was for the first time the server said they paired down the bar and couldn’t make my husband American Sidecars. Otherwise it was awesome as usual!
Of course the steelhead was the usual crave-able dish. We were given a free dessert for a birthday, and ended up selecting the spice cake, which was dry and dreadful, the frosting cracked (indicating the cake was not fresh). I make mention of this because we were at Swiftwater Sept 12 and chose the coconut flan, which was also inedible. I know what flan is, and that wasn't even close to it. Looks like Swiftwater may want to take another look at the quality of your desserts.
The restaurant was very busy and our waiter did his best to manage our table, but it was difficult for him to keep up. Long gaps in service...long wait for food.
The ambiance was good and the waiter made good suggestions on wine. The menu was not worth the price paid. The calamari appetizer was too salty. The chicken dish was dry and my friend said the vegetables on the bottom weren’t cooked all the way. In particular she said the potatoes were undercooked. The braised pork dish was also dry and lacked moistness and flavor. The risotto on the bottom was not quite cooked all the way as well. The only dish that was ok was the halibut cheek special. Overall spending over $80 on a gourmet dinner did not feel like it was gourmet at all. It was definitely more worth it at the Bellevue location. One last note, don’t bring in any jackets or things you don’t want smelling like the restaurant cuz it will smell for days. Maybe there needs to be an upgrade on the kitchen vent systems?

The ambiance felt very off, for being associated with a wine cellar. It seemed more like a medieval cafeteria than somewhere I would want to spend $50 on an entree. The service wasn't great, our server was very slow, and none of the staff seemed friendly. Some of the food was good, but the coq au vin was dry. We felt the food was very overpriced for the restaurant and the quality.
Disappointing visit this time around w/the exception of the service (Sara our server is always great!). The food is usually very nice especially considering the price. But I’m not sure if they keep going thru chefs or what because every time we come the menu has changed, the changes & pairings don’t make sense (Steakhouse, Asian?), there’s no consistency it’s like the chef at the time is trying to be creative but it just doesn’t work and with the limited menu you feel forced to eat something you’re not really wanting and it turns out you’re right and at the price you’d have been better off cooking at home. I ordered the braised short rib with risotto and the short rib was ok but very fatty so not shown care during prep, the risotto was flavorless and there were two pieces of asparagus. My husband ordered the tenderloin it was over cooked and the potatoes were lumpy-with the quality of dinner we didn’t even bother trying dessert. The other downside were all the flies and gnats! Now some may say it’s the time of year and that may be true however we’re not talking 1 or 2 annoying lil buggers but MANY they were in our beverage glasses landing on our charcuterie platter it was like we were eating outside. As Cle Elum really has only a few restaurants (and I know they know that!) I still would recommend however Hoist House really needs to get over themselves and bring their standards back up or lower their prices.
Poor customer service, but the expos at BOH wa's on point.
