Hofbrauhaus - Chicago
A Oktoberfest experience.
This was a fantastic experience and would definitely recommend!!!
Food, service, ambience were all perfect!!
I’ve been here a number of times. This time the sauerbraten and red cabbage were way off. Didn’t enjoy my meal at all. My daughter said the same thing it just wasn’t right. We just don’t want to chance it again. Very disappointed!
Always a good time. My kids love it there! There is always a band on stage.
1. they didn't honor the reservation
2. the food was pre-made and heated in the oven..the place was full, yet the food came in 7 minutes...visually, it looked like a pre-cooked meal that just got in the microwave...
Oktoberfest was a party for sure. Didn't love the food, and they had the wait staff stretched thin. But the band/performance was enjoyable.
Flavor of food was delicious but came to table cold! 👎 Waitress was not attentive & every time we needed something, we had to hunt her down. The ambience was much fun, the band was very entertaining & engaging.
Octoberfest is always a fun experience here. This time we were brought to a corner table in the far west part of the hall. This would have been fine usually, because we could still glimpse the band. But this time there was a huge group of tables celebrating a birthday between us and the stage. They had already finished when we were seated, but they continued to stand and talk around the empty tables for another hour and a half, so we couldn't see anything at all. The appetizers were fantastic, our entrees were chewy with slightly undercooked bacon. The beer was very good.
Great space. Authentic German food.
Poor customer service. Very disappointing.
I love this place place. Oktoberfest is a blast, until you have terrible service. Tom was the worst waiter I have ever had. 20 minutes just to get to the table. After that we had to call him over just to come to the table.
They need a German Band vs a band that plays some German music...
In 2 hours they played the Chicken Dance 'zero' times..?
The music was great.
The food.... while the red cabbage (rotkohl) was excellent, the grillhendl was extremely dry, as was the chicken dish of one of my party members. The Oktoberfest Bratenteller was squarely down the middle of the road with the sauerbraten being juicy, but the pork dry as a bone.
The atmosphere... the band is becoming entirely too loud, to the point of being completely unable to carry on a conversation. I have been in the Munich HB too many times to count and can tell you without equivocation that it is never that loud, because the emphasis is on the fellowship, the “freundschaft”. Even the Festhalles at the Oktoberfest are not as loud as what I’ve experienced in Rosemont of late.
Finally, as one of the original steinmaster club members, I’m very disappointed that there’s little benefit of being one any longer. There used to be occasional invitations to special events and keg tappings, but no longer.
Overall, the experience is disappointing every time I’m there. Why do I go? Because it’s still as close as I can get to being in the city I love, Munich.
We celebrated our daughter’s 35th birthday. I entered the special event on the open table reservations , but still had to tell the waiter when our daughter went to the bathroom. Don’t know what the restaurant doesn’t look at the reservations, but the waiter was fantastic and surprised her. And I didn’t get the open table points for the reservations. Is it because we used a certificate from Open Table? The waiter never saw a certificate from open table before, but assured us he would figure it out and he did. We will visit again, especially during Oktoberfest.
Fun, fun fun. This is a place to go have fun for a few hours.
Great beer and German Biergarten ambiance, but inauthentic, poor quality food. And the beer and food is overpriced.
we’re a group of neighbors and went for Oktober Fest. The band was outstanding! The food was outstanding! Our server Kat, was an excellent ambassador and she did a fabulous job caring for our wants and needs. She was great!! It was such a fun evening and everyone enjoyed themselves.
Service was bad, took ten minutes for a server to come to us and take an order. Ordered a pretzel appetizer and it came after our dinners arrived, food was good but the server kept disappearing, took 15 minutes to get our bill.
You have to be ready to sit "picnic-style" at this restaurant because that's how it is in Germany, and Hofbrauhaus is authentic German-style ambiance. Our server, Linda, was wonderful, and the band was great too! It was fun watching the Jagermeister shot/paddle routine! Very festive and fun!
Now, my only complaint was that the Pork Tenderloin I ordered was too well-done and difficult to cut with a regular knife. Pork Tenderloin is so lean, it only needs to be briefly browned and turned constantly so it doesn't get tough. That's what the chef failed to do, but otherwise, the meal was very good. They don't offer a bread basket, which does baffle me, because German restaurants are all about beer and starch.
Me and a few friends went here for my birthday it was a great time. There was a concert out in the park and after a band was playing in the restaurant
Very fun place!! It's very energetic and loud which is great!
Go for the beer, pretzels and entertainment! Outdoor patio was great for the summer fireworks!
Pretzel was the best part of the meal. Wife got the schnitzel, kids got the grill cheese and hot dog, mediocre at best. Bill was over $100, pricey for what you get but atmosphere is fun.
....................................dont go here ....
I like this place for lunch. It was not crowded. We ate outside under an umbrella and it was a perfect day to dine al fresco. It wasn't noisy so we could have a nice conversation without shouting at each other, which is what often happens at trendy eateries in Chicago. The waitress was very nice and the sausages and salmon were good, along with the beer. My only concern was that it took too long to get our meals to the table. When mine arrived (Nurnberg sausages, mashed potatoes and sauerkraut), it was no longer hot but tepid. I think our meals were probably promptly prepared but for some reason the waitstaff did not deliver it to our table for some time. I deduced this because both the gravy and the mashed potatoes had thickened at the surface. I'm a stickler when I cook at home for serving food hot and right when it is prepared. The restaurant was not very busy during our visit so I don't understand why it took so long to serve the meal.
We had a great time visiting with friends. We live in Minneapolis and make a point to visit on our trips to Chicago. This place is great for families and groups. Always amazing food, beer and Gemütlichkeit!!!
Everything was great except the service. Our waitress didn’t visit our table for about 15mins once we were sat and we had to call someone over. When she did serve us she was super crabby
Our server was excellent! She was very attentive and friendly. We had the giant pretzel with mustards and cheeses as an appetizer and it was very good....fresh and fun to share. My friend had a sausage (white) that was quite good. Another had the pork schnitzel, which was dry. The spaetzle was bland and rubbery. I had the reuben which was terrible. The corned beef tasted like it was out of a grocery case (not the butcher counter) and the sauer kraut on it was terrible. However, the sauer kraut that was served as a side dish was quite a bit better than mine. The french fries were nice and crisp. Finally, the potato pancakes....sadly they were small, bland and not very crisp. I will not go back. This was not my first visit to Hofbrauhaus (I have enjoyed it more in the past), but it will be my last:(
Came at 5:00pm - it was seat yourself and not a lot of wait staff. Food is ok - expected more ambiance.
Love sitting on the patio with a beer, sausages and pretzels! Only complaint is the tall "ashtray" for smokers is right in front of the entry, and with the slight wind, was blowing right at the patio. It needs to be moved to the other side of the stairs, and further away. It would be a much better dining experience.
Such a fun atmosphere! Great for groups! Excellent service
Went there for concert in rosemont
Well, it certainly is German. Enjoyed the German band and beer songs. Food mixed - - cucumber salad and weinerschneiztel outstanding. Potato pancakes soft and mushy, not crisp. Potato salad reeked of vinegar. Apple strudel excellent. German beer wonderful.
Place has just become a tourist spot in rosemont now with the other places near it. When first opened food was better and good size portions. Now so so average food, smaller portion and higher prices. Such a shame was a fun place to go to from time to time. Only thing still good is their beer
a good meal and ambiance. Enjoyable afternoon lunch.
The band is excellent and the vibe is good. The food was slow to come out and pretty good. Stick with the sausage plates! The waitress made an error on our bill but corrected it.
