Very good food set in multiple settings of the Charles Hotel. We had the choice of a dining room, lounge or on the sunlit veranda. They have a good wine selection and full bar. The service is excellent. We can't wait to return!

The service and meal were excellent. However, the building is not wheelchair accessible as there are stairs at the front and back entrances. The brick work on the parking lot make it very difficult for a person using a wheelchair to mobilize. Once inside the restaurant and lounge are accessible.

Very romantic... quite place, our server was fabulous. Can’t wait to go back.

We dine at HobNob at least once or twice a month and we have been doing that for over 5 years... Valentine's dinner last night was awful. Average first course, average second course and for dessert no one in the kitchen even bothered to turn the oven on ... 2 chocolate covered strawberries, a wedge of cheese and a tablespoon of nuts! Really? In a town full of great restaurants are you aspiring to become mediocre?

I really wanted to love my meal. I would even accept liking it. But in the end, I was really disappointed.

When I was seated, there was a special prix fixe Valentine’s Day menu on the table. I was cool with this, as I assumed at the time that this menu was the only one available. Also, my server lead me to believe this was the case. However, as the meal progressed i realized the the table next to mine was eating different food than what i was being served. By the end of the mean, I was angry that I had not been given that option.

My guest and i began with the whitefish chowder. The soup was served lukewarm. In addition, it just wasn’t very good. My guest and I acknowledged that it was cold and not very good, but we ate it anyway as we were quite hungry. But it really set the meal off to a bad start.

Next course was the duck confit tortellini. My guest enjoyed it. I thought it was ok. At least it was hot!

Next was the butter poached lobster. This was good. Not great, but good.

Finally, came dessert. This included an oddly large wedge of cheese, two chocolate covered strawberries, and a small handful of nuts. I get that this was a prix fixe menu, but the dessert was just underwhelming. To make it worse, the people next to us were obviously enjoying a chocolate/caramel dessert that looked amazing.

I'm not trying to throw Hobnob under the bus. Maybe it's spectacular 99% of the time. But tonight, it really missed the mark.

Once the meal was complete, our server seemed to disappear. It was getting late and his section was emptying out. From my experience in the food service industry, I assume that he was busy with his side jobs in an attempt to get out of work once we left. So, there we sat. Finally, I had to ask a busser to fetch our check. When the check came, our server seemed to be in quite a rush to return to wherever he had come from, and was quickly gone.

Wonderful and attentive service in a beautoful dining room

Hob Nob was an excellent restaurant! Set in a beautiful old home. The food is outstanding. We had oysters, pork belly, Arctic Char and lobster gnocchi. Nothing disappointed. Our waiter, Sean, was most knowledgeable and helpful with wines and winery’s to visit. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back. Thank you Hob Nob!

We returned to the Charles Inn for my wife’s birthday. Situated in a fine old inn, the dining room is a an elegant victorian setting for an intimate occasion. I can’t figure out where they got the name “HobNobs” from, though. The food and service were excellent. It’s a great place to go to capture the feel of historic Niagara on the Lake

Atmosphere and service was excellent. Food was even better. Highly recommend!

Great Lunch

We stayed at the Charles Inn and had dinner at HobNob once and drinks in the bar twice. The bar is very relaxing. The dinner in the main dining room was formal and excellent.

Food is very good - portions are extremely small for the price. Other restaurants in NOTL offer larger portions for similar prices. Menu hasn’t evolved much.

We have eaten in the dining room before, which was lovely. That is what we were expecting when we made the resrvation this time. Instead, we were taken to a table in the enclosed porch area which was very cold and drafty. The waitress moved us to the bar lounge which was warmer, but noisy. Not the ambiance we were hoping for at $95 per person for the new years eve dinner (not including the wine pairings).
We advised the reservation desk of a glutton allergy, and pointed it out to the waitress when we saw ravioli as an appetizer. We were brought the ravioli anyways, which the server quickly replaced with a soup once we told him about the allergy. Then, we were served a troufle dessert with a cake/flour base for dessert. Again, the gluten allergy was ignored AND the kitchen denied there being flour in it once it was brought to their attention. There definitely WAS flour in the base.
The service was very slow...a 3 hour dinner. And wine pairings were not brought out with the proper course (had to ask for it once), and we were often not told what kind of wine it was unless we asked.
Not at all the service we expected after our previous visit in March. The food was delicious though.

Service was Okay, never got asked if I wanted another drink the whole meal after being finished with it 1 hour into a 3 hour meal. The food was really good with no complaints. They sat us next to a window with a very cold breeze.

The HobNob is an excellent restaurant. The food is delicious and well prepared and presented. We tried the 5 course meal with wine pairings and it was very good. The service was excellent and the server was knowledgeable about the food that was presented. We have eaten before at this restaurant and we have never been disappointed.

HobNob is one of my favorite restaurants in NotL. The dining room is lovely, and always decorated perfectly. The service is generally impeccable. And the chefs care tremendously about the guest experience. If you have vegetarians or gluten-free people in your group, the chefs have no problem catering to everyone individually.

Disappointing for the price. Incredibly average for the amount we paid. Will be looking for a new place. Medallion of turkey breast, small scoop of pasty mashed potatoes and 2 Brussels sprouts cut in half. Not happy.

We had Christmas dinner on Christmas day. The food, service and ambiance was absolutely perfect! Couldn't have asked for better.

Our favourite restaurant in the whole wide world! The food is excellent and the service impeccable.

The restaurant had a warm welcoming and relaxing feel to it , with the glow from the fireplaces creating the ambience. The food was absolutely delicious and the courses were well timed. Not a lot of straight up choice for vegetarians as mostly every dish was created with one type of meat or another. However there is definitely a willingness to change a dish to suit the customer 's diet. Definitely recommend for a specific occasion!

What an amazing restaurant and Inn. The seared fois gras was delicious and prepared perfectly. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Great wine list and we love trying Canadian red wines! Our entrees were outstanding as well as dessert. Will definitely return next summer.

Had a delicious lunch. Shared the gnocchi poutine with shaved lamb - mouth watering and delicious. These pillows of goodness melted in your mouth. Share the truffle mac and cheese with panko crumbs. Again, another masterpiece. Mac and cheese had chunks of bacon, spinach and tomatoes. This dish wasn't heavy and all the ingredients worked well with creating an explosion of goodness. Atmosphere was romantic and restaurant definitely had character. Great service, fantastic wine selection and delicious food.

My wife and I had had a most enjoyable evening at HobNob; the atmosphere was perfect (cozy), the service was great, and the food was incredible!!!

Our favorite local restaurant for special occasions or just as a treat.
Prompt friendly service, excellent cuisine and an elegant setting. Could use a little updating but please don't go too far.
Nice to have a place that you can talk and dine without the noise of newer places.
