Had Sunday brunch. Afternoon reservation. Arrived few minutes late. Delayed about 20 minutes before sitting at table and waiter showed. Food buffet was very good with exception of omelette’s which had limited ingredients and edges burnt black. Very nice place but we were put in bar area with TVs and AC so killed ambiance. Manager was very good and went out of his way to end on a high note. Will give it another try but earlier in day, as the food was great and overall good value.
This " new Ho Ho Kus Inn" has lost it's charm. The table cloths are gone along with the interesting menu and elegant service. This beautiful historic building has turned into a glorified pub. It will no longer be a consideration for a special occasion or holiday dinners.
Took a while for our server to take our order but after that the service was good. The "wedge" salad special was actually chopped. Manager said that was their twist on it. That should be noted on menu. Otherwise it was very tasty. Lobster Pappardelle had lots of lobster and a sweet flavor. Cod and diver scallops were enjoyed by my friends. Overall very good, just a little pricey, 2 apps, 4 drinks, 3 entrees, 1 dessert, 2 coffees and tip came to about $75 per person.
We will never go back to this restaurant; the food was ordinary and the service was extremely slow. I even had to send back my cocktail as the bartender didn’t make it correctly. But my biggest gripe is that we were just two people hoping to have a quiet dinner in a charming place, and instead we were seated in an upstairs room with 2 large birthday parties and other larger tables. The noise level was so bad that we could not hear each other talking. And the service was not sufficient to handle all of us. Very disappointing as it was an expensive dinner that we did not enjoy.
We are not sure what happened to this restaurant. It used to be top notch. The food was very average and some of the items like the column Mari and the card was just awful.
The server while very nice, was very on attentive and the same thing happened the last time with the same server. A dining room table should not have to ask for cracked pepper or ask for a Parmesan cheese on the pasta dish. We will not be back
Food is good, but execution not commensurate with prices. Somewhat disappointing
Based on other reviews, I really had high hopes for this place but I was pretty underwhelmed. The service was outstanding once they were able to make my drink after waiting for about fifteen minutes. The appetizers were ho-hum except for the special. Pretzel and cheese was pretty bad but the grilled octopus was good. Dinner was short rib lasagna which was okay- nothing to write home about. The scallops that my son had were good he said. The dessert list was practically nonexistent with three choices. It was $170 for two of us which I thought was too much considering the quality. I don’t mind paying but it was not worth the price. Would I go back? Maybe but there are other places I would pick before this place.
I was truly disappointed with my experience. Totally average food and service left little to be enjoyed except the cool atmosphere of the old charming Inn. The waiter did not introduce himself and was slammed with tables and only interested in taking our order and moving on. The grilled octopus app was the star of the evening and cooked well. The appetizer salad was 3 bites and not worth 13.00. I shared the steak fritte and the scallops. The steak was small yet flavorful, but served with room temperature fries with cheese all over them and the arugula salad taking up half the plate did nothing to enhance the dish. The scallops were totally passable but not special in any way. Dinner was so ok I wouldnt consider dining here again unless I was coming in for a burger. Maybe.
Overpriced for what is delivered for dinner. Go for lunch, sit in the tap room and order a sandwich.
We sat in the bar area. A little too noisy for me. Overall the food was good. I had pheasant and my wife had the short rib lasagna. We had an enjoyable time but would preferred to sit in the dining room.
The service was really terrible. I don't know if it because they did not have sufficient staff when we were there. However, service was painfully slow, especially when drinks were ordered. The prices were also way too high for the quality of the food. I paid $18 for what was essentially a cheese steak. It was an average sandwich. So over priced for average food and poor service. On the way home we all commented on what a disappointment the place is. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
The food was good. We had requested the tavern but were placed in the dining room. It felt like we were sitting on top of the table next to us. There was very little privacy. The service was mediocre. The volume of noise in the dining room was extremely loud.
Great burger as always!!
The Ho-Ho-kus Inn is a beautiful place with lovely rooms throughout the Inn for dinner. We went on Valentines Day and were taken to a room upstairs. My Caesar salad was good, but small. My entree of Lobster pasta was ample and delicious. Dessert of an apple crisp was very good. No wine list was offered, just a question whether we wanted red or white wine or something else. Fortunately I could get my Riesling. Service was good even though it was very busy. I would recommend for a quiet, very good dinner. Not inexpensive though!
Valentines Day Dinner.
Booked for Valentines Day Lunch. Greeted
25th Birthday celebration.
Best brunch for the value
wonderful lunch! no rush-we stayed and chatted for a long long while. great ambiance.
I love this restaurant and I have said it before - this is the best restaurant in the HoHoKus / Ridgewood area - This place can satisfy everyone - Bar food - Gastro Pub - Dine Dinning - Great for Family , Anniversary , Date night etc... we hit this place at least once a week - and I only go out about once a week. Wings are the best of bergan - burger is a 10 - and the chopped salad is perfection. In the summer you can eat outside.
Great ambiance with a round table by a fireplace. Friendly and efficient service and delicious meals.
Food was predictably good. Service was surprisingly bad: inattentive, slow, uninterested.
The Hohokus Inn seems to have hit its mark after many years of changing ownership and management. I have been a patron since the 1990s and recent renovations and upgrades have made it a very popular place with locals and young professionals. They food is pricey but good and the service professional and attentive. Highly recommend now that they have added the "bar menu" to the main dining room menu which provides more variety and is less pricey. Large wine list and active bar. Fun place.
Good food, horrible service.
On the positive side, the restaurant is absolutely beautiful with a great wine list and a nice menu. We loved our table, in a side room, which was perfect for a sometimes noisy book group. However, it was pretty obvious that the management/wait staff couldn't have cared less about customer service. It took about eight polite requests before someone brought out wine glasses and opened our wine or deigned to take orders for drinks. Then, it was another long wait...one of us finally had to flag down a waiter at another table to find out who our own waiter was. While the rest of the group ordered appetizers and a main course, I ordered a salad and a main course. The appetizer came. And my salad was served with the main courses. My suspicions that I would probably not get my main course was proved right. When I mentioned it to the waiter, I got the equivalent of a shrug and a "sucks to be you," kind of apology. I said I didn't want the food any more but was he even aware that I didn't get my food. Btw, I had substituted the rice for another veggie...something I thought would stick in his mind. We ordered coffee...which was cooler than lukewarm. A couple of others ordered tea which was hot though. My salad was nice and the others who actually got their food said it was quite good...which makes this review harder to write. I wish I wanted to go back there and so do the other 8 in our group but we have voted this down as a venue to which we want to return. The waiter did take the coffees off our bill but that was the only nod to customer service. All in all, a severely lackluster and maddening experience.
Disappointed in the quality of the food and service. Although the restaurant was fairly empty, the service was fairly slow. Also all of the steaks were undercooked. Not sure if it is worth returning.
Amazing food!!! Will definitely be going back
We celebrated New Years Eve here for the first time and will never return again. The noise level was awful, my husband and I couldn’t even hold a conversation. It seemed as the venue added more tables to accommodate the reservations before thinking about the noise level. We also waited 1/2 hour for our valet parked car, it was pouring but they didn’t notice we were waiting for so long. It turned out they got the wrong car with the ticket we presented. We had to find the car in our own. The food was satisfactory but could have been better considering the price. Next year they should reconsider the number of reservations they take.
Good food, nice service and they have a liquor license and excellent wine list which is not common here in New Jersey. The ambiance is wonderful in a historic house that dates from the American Revolution. Wonderful bar and an excellent place to have a wedding!!
Service was a little slow, but what can you expect on a Saturday before a big Holiday.
Beautiful historic tavern all decorated for the holidays. Small menu but everything was delicious!
I had been to the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn years ago, and finally made my way back. The ambience is really nice...love that old house feel with lots of rooms. Unfortunately, the restaurant was very noisy, so hard to have a conversation. Also, the quality of the food is mediocre at best, and expensive. The portions are also small, although we would have overlooked that if the taste was superb, which it was not. Despite this, the place was packed, so people are going there for something. Maybe the pub-type food (like burgers) is much better than their dinners (eg, chicken, swordfish, NY strip). Desserts were good.
Beautifulbplace and reasonable menu. What a wonderful holiday place to go to.
The food and service was great. The room was really loud so it was hard to talk.
Service was lacking. Food was served lukewarm. Menu selections are uninspiring.
Lovely Tavern and Inn! Was disappointed not to get original room we asked for when booking our party months ago. But management was accommodating and gave us a better table in the Tavern. The noise level on the 2nd floor, where we original was, was horrible. Way too loud!! People were screaming across from each other.""
Food was very delicious. Carolers and Santa were awesome! Already booked our next party for next year! Well done, Hohokus Inn!
Group lunch for the holidays, food and service were wonderful as usual. Not rushed, enjoyed our lunch from start to finish.
We had a nice evening. The food was good the service was a little harried and we felt on attended two for things like additional cracked pepper, the waiter coming back asking if everything was OK… Other than that it was good
