Ho-Ho-Kus Inn & Tavern
Sunday: Brunch: 11:00am - 3:00pm, Lunch/Dinner: 11:30 am - 10 pm
Tavern Bar open late night.
Food was very good but service was very slow. Waited almost an hour for food to be served. Server was not attentive.
Good food, service and atmosphere. Outdoor seating, two bar areas, and a formal dining room to match whatever your mood. All this in a classic historic home loaded with colonial charm.
We had a great time - sat in the tavern and it was terrific!
We were five and started with sparkling wine. From Caesar salad to oysters, our appetizers were treats to eye and palate. Beautifully prepared divers scallops and cod were our entrees. Ordered two plates of cookies. We found them very soft, too soft in fact but delicious too.
Great place missed the mark this time. Some food bland and served incomplete. Service slow — we guessed it all relates to a kitchen that was overwhelmed in some way. Not the norm at HHK Inn but we were disappointed this time.
Great place! They really made my anniversary dinner special. The service was amazing, and the food was really good. I would certInly go back.
Service was slow. Food orders came out wrong and one had to be sent back, which resulted in new order not arriving until 30 minutes later when everyone had already finished dinner or their meals were cold. Noise level way too high. It wasn’t even crowded.
First off I ordered an Old Fashion that tastes like way to much bitters. My wife’s crab cake app was cold. Then the short ribs that she ordered was dry and the mashed potatoes were cold. My app was good, the salmon was cooked as advertised but the couscous was bland way overpriced for the value. I will never go back. I will say that the manager apologized and comped my wife’s entree. I work to hard to have an evening ruined.
Food was exceptional as was our waitress Lupita. Really nice job for a birthday dinner, including the personalized menu card for the birthday guest. Well done HHK Inn!
Had been for lunch before. The decor and ambiance are great. The menu has wonderful options. However our scallops were salty, the beans they were served over were under cooked. No one came out when our salad was served and asked if we wanted pepper. The octopus was chewy. The best part of the meal was the burrito peach salad. That was incredible. The price compared to other places we go is. A little high for what you get and the service. Even the bread didn’t seem fresh.
As always an enjoyable experience. Since it has warmed up we asked to sit out on the patio. You can't reserve ahead if time, only upon arrival. We had just over an hour wait, which is what we had expected. Enough time for a couple of drinks and conversation to catch up with friends. Highly suggest the valet at peak times so you don't have to worry about finding a spot. Friday night we stick to the bar menu. The two guys had hot sandwiches and I had a burger. All came with a side of fries. We started by splitting the margarita flatbread, thin crust with just enough sauce and lightly cheesed. Never have room for dessert so you are on your own there.
We waited so long for our meal. 2 steaks came out charred and nedium rare. They gave us dessert. But in the end they should not have charged us for the steaks. Dinner was $300 for 6 people and my daughter shared with my mom. This was our first time at this restaurant and will not go back. What a terrible meal. What a terrible birthday meal.
I love when it's warm enough to sit on the outdoor patio at HHK Inn... ordering from the Tavern menu is very reasonable, and the food is consistently good. Service was attentive wihout being invasive. Nice evening outdoors for a salad and burger :)
Great food and service. Nice ambiance. Menu had a nice variety and gluten free options
Great meal at very charming restaurant. Service was fantastic. Never felt rushed or ignored.
We went in for an early dinner. Went for the small plates and burgers. Burger perfectly cooked medium rare. The buttermilk onion rings were great. Grilled octopus was tender and grilled crisp.
Our server, Ed, was excellent. Helpful and attentive without ever being intrusive.
Really liked house ale. Very good selection of wines by the glass.
Birthday dinner celebration. Food was excellent, as usual. I always enjoy my meal at the Hohokus Inn. The staff was very attentive. Great place for a celebration.
We sat outside on the sweet little patio on a beautiful day. The food was delicious and service was very good. Salmon burger and devils on horseback are a must have and cocktails were great!
Went for lunch with a friend. We asked to be seated at a table outside in the shade. We were informed that the tables with umbrellas were reserved for a party of 4. We agreed to be seated at a table for 2 without umbrella. We had to keep
Moving around our table because the sun was too strong for us.
They did not have any party of 4 come to dine and we noticed that 2 tables for 4 only had 2 people seated at them. The table next to us was empty the whole time we had lunch. Plus there was another empty table for 4.
We did not enjoy our meals because it was too much sun on us and because we couldn’t understand why they didn’t offer to move us, especially when the waiter/busboy was helping us move the table closer to the table next to us to get some shade.
I don’t think we will be having lunch there any time soon. Sometime s you have to try to please the customer that is there and not worry about the customer that might come.
We celebrated a 40th Birthday. Great food and ambiance. Staff was very friendly
We had high hopes, but were underwhelmed. The salmon dish and the cod dish were tasty, but the scallop dish, which was very pricely, had very dull tasting scallops. Which made the white beans the best part of the dish. The lobster pappardelle dish did not have much lobster, and was too heavy on the sauce. The chocolate lava cake dessert was appreciated.
Ho-Ho-Kus Inn has done it again. The Diver Sea Scallops over Broccoli Rabe with Chorizo was incredible, delectable, scrumptious! The Organic Malbec was smooth. Our server was polite and attentive. I recommend Ho-Ho-Kus Inn without reservation.
We celebrated Easter brunch with family and we enjoyed the homelike coziness of the inn. The staff was very friendly and the food was delicious--a nice variety. There were kid-friendly choices too like mac and cheese, chicken nuggets and sugary cereals.
Oysters were delicious. Food was very good as was service. Nothing to do with restaurant but why do people bring infants and small children into bar? Screaming little ones should not be ruining dinner for everyone. Take you screaming child home!
Good food and many different dining areas made this a great place to have a dinner conversation with friends. We ended up spending 4 hours.
I was disappointed in the food based on the price.
Ordered a bottle of high end wine (>$200). They brought a different bottle from the same producer (lower quality, lower overall rating). No explanation and proceeded to pour it. I'm quite disappointed as this is one of our favorite restaurants. Off the list now...
Service was very poor; very disappointing.
It took forever to receive bread and then we had to ask for butter.
Food took a long time to arrive at our table and generally service was extremely slow.
was there this valentines day. the only good thing i ate was lobster bisque. entrees were completely tasteless both mine and my wives. my wife was half done with her meal when they brought me my replacement which again had no flavor or seasoning. Very surprised restaurant didnt even offer to comp for serving such tasteless dishes. I would not recommend sadly
Went for Valentine’s Day. Felt like we were dining at a cafeteria or catering hall. Had four different servers take care of us. Food was good however.
The waiter was very gracious throughout the evening. However, it took an hour for our entrees to be served after our appetizers. All of the entrees (which were seafood) were room temperature and the salmon was dry and overcooked.
We were not impressed with the food.
Our go to place for special occasion dinning. Great ambiance, wine selection and drinks. The food is very good and if there is an issue it is corrected without hesitation or disruption.
Wonderful restaurant with old charm. Was glad to see some gluten-free choices but not many. Although they offer GF bread with sandwiches, the ingredients in the sandwiches may not be GF, as is the Salmon burger.
Entrees are pricey for lunch, but the scallops (2) were nicely done. Prosecco was a nice choice too!
First time having brunch at ho ho Kus inn and it was excellent. Great selections of foods of breakfast lunch etc. Will be back again for sure
The price was very good for what you were offered also and the mimosas were delicious too.
Family brunch for birthday celebration with 3 generations
Everybody was happy with the brunch selection ,
Even our 90 year old !
Fabulous food and excellent service.
Our first visit but surely not our last.
Perfect from start to finish!
We had fantastic food, the waiter was very attentive and gave us excellent suggestions regarding menu options. We got the duck and short ribs, which were both exceptional.
The grilled octopus as an appetizer was a bit overcooked.
Enjoyed a relaxed brunch, with a wide assortment of choices including jumbo shrimp and smoked salmon, as well as unlimited Bloody Marys and Mimosas. The service was very attentive. Well worth the week's wait to get a reservation.
Historic building so you can’t beat the atmosphere. Attentive service and good food. Just slow coming out. Which was OK because I was in no rush.
