   Our experience at the Hohokus Inn was highly disappointing. Despite making a clear reservation for the outdoor patio, we were directed to an indoor table. To make matters worse, our server disappeared without a trace, leaving us unattended. When the general manager finally approached our table, he seemed dismissive and acted as if he had done us a favor by taking our order. The lack of hospitality and professionalism was evident throughout our visit. It was an overall frustrating and unsatisfactory dining experience that we do not recommend.

    A beautiful and charming setting. Service was attentive and competent. Food was very good. The menu was a bit all over the place . It was probably geared towards having something for everyone.

    As a couple, it was odd that we were seated upstairs in a small room among tables of families with children being children. Another couple got up and left because of the noise and intrusive behavior. If we were spread out in a larger room, I don’t think it would have been a bad experience. But having a child throw the pieces of pasta and chicken off her plate and at my legs that she didn’t like was not what imagined for my Saturday night out. Also, they need to do something about the floor joists upstairs. With each footstep taken by patrons and staff it feels like you are on a wobbly boat. I was sure we were going to fall through to downstairs at any moment.

    We went for brunch. We had a good meal. Service was a little spotty...a couple of orders were not correct (one cocktail ordered with no ice came with ice; one special request missed the mark). But overall, everyone enjoyed their food and we liked the upstairs room. We have eaten here a few times and this was the first time a surcharge was added for using a credit card. There was no warning. It was also added for using a debit card... which has no associated bank fees. This should be included in planning the price of dishes and not a "surprise" attached to the bill.

    We always love going to the Ho Ho Kus Inn because the food is always delicious. Our waiter was not very attentive and we waited 25 minutes just to get a drink order in. He had no recollection that he had not even come for it. Dinner came out quickly but again once the food was delivered, he was hard to track down. Everything else was great though and will not punish the restaurant for a bad encounter with one of their staff.

    Manager could not have been ruder. We showed up in time for our reservation and were informed our table was at least a 20 minute wait. When I mentioned that I had a broken foot, which was why we chose a restaurant where we could make a reservation, he shrugged and pointed to a chair. We saw an empty table and asked if we could be seated there but he refused. He stated that tables had a 2 hour limit but that they weren’t yet ready to ask people to get up. When I mentioned that I had recently been asked to leave my table after an hour and a half, he looked down at some supposed record of my last visit and said “you were here for 3 1/2 hours.” I was confused as I clearly recalled my last visit when I was abruptly asked to get up after an hour and a half, but he repeated “that’s right, three and a half hours.” I have been a regular at this restaurant for over fifteen years and was shocked by his rudeness and lying. We left and went to Felina where the manager took one look at my boot and immediately offered us a comfortable table with an extra chair so I could put up my foot and checked on us regularly. That’s good service. The Ho-Ho-Kus Inn is rude and does not know how to treat loyal customers.

    Specialty drink and dinner specials were delicious! Our waitress, Zee, was extremely attentive and pleasant from start to finish. Would definitely recommend to friends and family. We will definitely be back again.

    We ate in the Tavern Room and although like many places today they were a little short handed. However he made up the difference, I wish I had gotten his name. He’s the basketball coach at Park Ridge High School in Park Ridge N.J.

    My wife and I came for dinner, it was first time here and we were greeted by the hostess with “do you have a reservation?” We did! She did ask if it was a special occasion and brought us to our table. As I’m removing my jacket, the food runner barges past me to deliver food to a table instead of waiting for a few seconds for me to sit. He had one plate!! A waiter who didn’t end up taking care of us (can’t say I’m disappointed as I saw how he interacted with other customers) dropped a wine list, announced his name and walked away. The first person to say hello and ask how we were was the busboy. Our waitress was very very nice and attentive. She was quite pleasant. But the rest of the staff including the manager couldn’t seem to care less that we were there. (Not that we’re anyone special) but it’s nice to me made to feel welcome at least when spending almost $200 for dinner for two. (We don’t drink) The food was very good but nothing special. We had the crab cakes app, raw oysters, arugula and fennel salad (too much vinegar in the dressing, very sharp) the salmon and scallops as our mains. Our salad course was dropped at the table before we had finished our appetizers and obviously app plates weren’t removed. I felt as though I was at a local diner as opposed to a fine dining restaurant. We made our reservation for 5.30 pm so we’d avoid the busy time and still felt rushed. Our waitress was very apologetic and removed a bottle of water from the check. (Not necessary) Disjointed service and largely unfriendly atmosphere. Food was decent and we were initially excited to come back and try other items on the menu. But don’t think we’ll be back! 3.5 overall!!
