Very friendly waiting and bar staff. I have to remarque that is quiet hard to get a table for 1. Sorry I am just single and I like to travel on my own. Just don’t put some single person automatically at the bar - face from the crowd. Anyway - I ordered the Lobster -
Delicious. Asked for some greens with it and got some cooked cabbage. (Which are greens ;) - lobed the freshly baked sourdough bread. For dessert the chocolate mousse - the taste was excellent - best quality of chocolate, but the texture was to chewy and sticky, more like a paste. The sauterne was sweet but not sugary, a great round taste - beautiful. The 12.5% additional service seems all right or a table service, not for a bar-service though.
We were seated next to a customer who was very loud, kept singing loudly throughout dinner and did not pay his check. He was very disruptive and staff clearly did not know how to manage that situation.
Food wise - steak was ok and the sides were good. But the grouse was very very tough, unusually so, and not the cheapest around. Very disappointing overall, as I was looking forward to it.
I’ve been a customer for years now but I won’t be returning this time!
I used to recommend Hix for weekends woth kids, been several times over the past year, but this will be the last time. Service was nonexistent - we had obviously come at shift hand over. Kids food arrived before our drinks, had to wave every-time wanted something, even cutlery and napkins, cleared our own plates onto neighbouring tables (empty ones of course), told 2 options were available and then they weren’t, I could go on, it was a shambles. Told the manager - apologised, but didn’t actually do much about it to encourage us back, so we won’t bother.
The guy at the door was rude and condescending
Food lack flavor but very salty
The restaurant was very welcoming and the food was delicious. Dry fresh and well presented. It’s not cheap ! But the food is worth the money. The wine prices are quite expensive but you can get a house wine for £25 a bottle. They even parcelled up the steak bone for my dogs !
Perfect place for a pre theatre lunch. The set menu was superb!
Just had a chilled evening for my daughter's 24th birthday - great food and atmosphere and amazing service from really attentive and helpful staff.
Very disappointed... won’t be dining at any more Hix restaurants. Beef gravy for chicken, undercooked Yorkshire pudding, over cooked potatoes, the most pungent cauliflower cheese. I dined alone and was made to feel a bit like I was an alien. Singles aren’t the target audience apparently.. sent a tweet got ignored so obviously not interested in feedback
Was a perfect choice to entertain friends from Italy, location is right in the thick of Soho and the British food is excellent.
Just awful. The service was dire. The food not all worth the money. We’ve past so many times and thought we’d try this place. We will continue to walk by from now on. You need to seriously up your game when it comes to service.
Pre theatre 3 course set menu was delicious. Oyster, Hake and choc torte. Cost same as a pub meal so vfm.
Service was poor. Not attentive and the greeting on arrival awful, more interested in telling to shut the door firmly than welcoming. I couldn’t recommend this place as everthing else was average. The food when it arrived was pleasant.
Booked for Sunday lunch and the restaurant is just lovely with a warm and welcoming feel. Staff friendly and not at all intimidating. Food excellent and plentiful, big plates and good value. Drinks very expensive but hey .. you're in London!
A lovely treat on a Sunday afternoon. Will definitely return.
Very slow service, I felt they didn’t have enough staff, 1 barman for the whole restaurant. Food average, no non alcoholic beers, non alcoholic drinks currently being of the moment. Waited 15 minutes for the bill, then 15 more for the card machine. No bread served either which was strange. Every restaurant has off nights, but It’s the 2nd time I’ve had a bad experience here, now the last 😉
All was very good. Wine was splendid but we were limited to the cocktails on the dining room menu only......they were ok. Not as amazing as my previous visits. Service was average; didn’t feel like staff ‘connected’, considering the spend was £200 I expect a little more attention.
My wife and I were very disappointed with Wix. The service was terrible we had to ask to be served after sitting at our table for half an hour without drinks. When the food did eventually arrive it was very bland and either under or over cooked. We will not return.
Staff were great, very professional and polite and looked after us very well. We will be back!
Really enjoyed Hix Soho.
Staff were fantastic, really attentive but not overly.
Food was great, really enjoyed it.
Toilets a bit of a hike and downstairs, thru the bar - only 3 ladies loos - which meant a queue...
Good service on a busy Friday night. Starters were good but the steak we ordered which we were assured would feed three was barely enough for two.
Food was definitely the best part as well as the South African red. The service was on the verge of rude both the front of house and the waitress didn’t make us feel welcome. Steak was really well cooked, the pork crackling as a snack is superb and the oysters were fresh.
I always have the same starter, Heaven & Earth as it is sublime. I think they've tweaked it a little with some wild mushrooms added for extra umami so it's even nicer. We did splash out on the main course with the shared rib of beef for two but it was worth it for the quality of meat served perfectly medium rare as requested.
Slightly disappointed we only got 1 portion of fries with it but you could only choose 2 sides. Suggest at £90 that it should come with fries for 2 + 1 more side dish. Would cost the restaurant 'buttons' but would have made the meal perfect and got 5 starts for value too. A little more of the sauces wouldn't have gone amiss either.
Like the way the wine list was structured in price groups. The Barbera was excellent.
Bang average, service not great- they forgot to give the mains order to kitchen and didn’t apologise when we’d waited an hour. Got the meal half price because of a timeout card- wouldn’t have been happy at all otherwise
Popped in at 1830, before the rush. Reception was wonderful, we dined at the counter (the best place in my opinion) and ordered oysters - what else. Mo, the barman, was discretion itself and incredibly attentive. The food was wonderful as one would expect. Highly recommend dining at this time, before it gets too hectic.
We arrived for dinner at 6.30/7pm. There were lots of families in at this time which was great to see and the atmosphere was lively. After 8pm the lights were dimmed slightly and the venue took on a more ambient vibe. The food was excellent! My husband had the Heaven and Earth black pudding and mash and I, the crispy squid with toasted almonds chillies and kaffir lime leaves. We both followed with steak which was sensational. My only criticism was being seated in Marks bar after dinner. It was my birthday so it was a shame we had to wait in the restaurant for quite a while until a table was available downstairs. Previously diners from the restaurant were seated downstairs pretty swiftly however, maybe it was an exceptionally busy evening. We managed to get a table eventually and the bar staff were incredible.
Great food. Unfortunately, I told the restaurant twice it was my partners birthday beforehand and they forgot.
The host didn't know where my guests were.
(They were waiting in the empty bar for 20 minute house drinks- not even cocktails)
A fellow guest picked my coat from the floor- the staff walked by. (No one offered a cloakroom on arrival)
The waiter was complaining about how cold it was while we were freezing and trying to enjoy dinner....
The champagne was warm
The tartare was over seasoned.... (Chopped capers with beef really)
The curry was cold and the prawn burger was a soggy mustard mess
Hix got Every instance of being in a restaurant wrong !
I would like a refund to be honest
Lovely place. Great decor. Delicious food. Fantastic service (attentive helpful staff but left us to enjoy our meal). Good space between tables to allow decent levels of noise. Thoroughly enjoyable evening!
Great vibe! Great food! You will not be disappointed.
Crayfish to start, tasted good but not much to it. However, the fish curry was a knock out! The prawn cocktail and pasta that the other half had both looked and tasted great. Nice bustly brasserie atmosphere, if you’re looking for that sort of thing. Service ok, but nothing special.
Have been eating at Hix for years - mainly Soho but many others also. The Soho branch is very average now. There used to be a great Maitre D and fantastic staff but now service is lethargic at best and almost invisible - I think there was one server on during our lunch on Thurs. It's a shame as the location, restaurant space and food are still great - it just feels like nobody cares any more.
Service was efficient but not over the top, the food was absolutely superb, cant score much on ambience as a little quiet when I dined, which surprised me.
Arrived to empty restaurant,it was 1210 after all ,but plainly not expecting us,at the door the greeter was on the phone but quickly was on the ball and showed us to a table which we didn’t like. But She quickly allowed us to choose, handing us over to a young lady who again seemed surprised to see us. All rather strange as on the booking form they had asked if it was a special occasion and it was our wedding anniversary. Nevertheless we ploughing on,excellent menu but no sign of the lunch set menu which we had previously seen and fancied. Eventually we had to ask for it. Asked if we wanted water which was good except it was warm. They had had a problem with their fridge. By now we were beginning to feel somewhat disappointed as a previous visit had been so good. We pressed on and had an ok lunch ,but not what we expected from such a stellar establishment,Lyme Regis is much better.
Nice good value set lunch with family. Been many times before. Staff always lovely. Always enjoy it here.
Great service good food lovely ambience in the upstairs restaurant . This had been a Christmas present from a friend in Australia who chose the restaurant at random and it was a good choice . Hoping he sends another Christmas present this year
Food was good, but service on drinks was very slow.
At one point our waitress seemed to disappear for over half an hour and we couldn’t get a top up of our wine. We spoke to the manager and the replacement waiter was very attentive. There was no cocktail list other than 5 featured cocktails.
we didn't eat but we had a very enjoyable night, thank you
Good seafood at a reasonable price but this was because I had a 50% off voucher. The service was good and they let us order cocktails off menu.
Food was excellent however they brought the wrong main which meant by the time the correct main was made and brought the other was almost finished. They said they’d send the manager over but no one came to apologise or explain other than “the kitchen messed it up, yours will be a while” (!) nothing was deducted from the bill either or any offer to apologise which was a shame and a bit of a surprise in a place like Hix. Delicious nonetheless.
