Had so looked forward to this based on other reviews. The fish was very fresh, the cutting was really rather crude, and the presentation was thus disappointing. Service was abominable. There was no one else in the restaurant for most of the time, which made our very long wait between courses excruciating. Hamachi collar was perhaps overcooked. Sake was very good and well priced, but I'm afraid that won't get me to return.
Very good sushi - large portions at reasonable prices.
These guys are pure artists with their meals, sushi super fresh, never had anything less than perfect here.
I am usually not one to write reviews so when I do, it is either fantastic or horrible. This one I am leaning to disgraceful. I had an expired groupon that I needed to use but knowing that I would only get the paid value. So when the check came, I put in the expired groupon voucher and a credit card to pay for the difference. The manager came back huffing and buffing that he cannot accept my voucher because it expired. I tried to explain that the paid value never expires per groupon for the goods/service. All I was asking for was that I get the paid value of the voucher deducted from the check. He frantically waved his arms and hands in the air in frustration when I just wanted to explain what the groupon policy is. There was no point in arguing with this manic. I ended up paying for the bill all out of pocket. As I walked out of there, he couldn't even have the courtesy to say "thank you" or "have a good evening". I will tell you that for any restaurant or business in this day in age, to be in good standing and have returning customers, that is NOT what you do. For a couple of bucks, the merchant was willing to lose a customer and potentially many more how terrible the service is.
great food everytime. Love the crabmeat/avocado salad, sushi pizza, lots of great sushi. Great neighborhood restaurant
Food was amazing. Each of us (7) got a different dish and each was superb. The menu offered an astounding number of choices and the staff couldn't be more accommodating.
The atmosphere was wonderful; the music was low enough to allow for conversation.
The only negative is that parking, while not far (there's a nearby parking lot), is not close enough for anyone disabled to have easy access, and you have to pay for parking.
LOVE this restaurant. Can't say enough about it.
First time and it was amazing! The food was so good.
We love HITO! Wonderful food and service.
The specialty rolls are fabulous. Great Sake choices. Service is top notch. Never disappointed.
A reliably good Mount Kisco restaurant! We've been patronizing Hito since it opened, and were never disappointed.
It was Restaurant Week & we had never been to Hito so we thought we would give it a try since we all like sushi. The appetizers were good, especially my shrimp dish. Large portions. The presentation on my sashimi dish was spectacular. I am sorry I didn't take a picture of it. The sushi & tempura dishes were also very tasty & ample portions. (Sometimes the Rest. Week portions are skimpy.) The only negative was the price of the beers. We would have liked to try some of the brands we never had before but we thought $10.50 for a beer was excessive. The service was very good too. Over all a very good dining experience.
Good sushi other than that your basic Chinese take out. No atmosphere. A glorified take out joint.
Excellent food. Large menu with many choices.
Went on a Monday night - only one waitress seating, bussing and waiting tables for the whole restaurant. Way too much for an 18year old summer employee. Appy took 45 mins and the sushi was pedestrian and not our order. Anyway - 5 nicer places within 20 feet of the place should be considered first. Such a waste because the community would reward quality if they could provide it.
Enjoyed my meal. Hito I surpringly sophisticated for a casual place. They know sushi.
Bravo each time I visit this establishment I am surprised yet again. The chef is creative , the food is bursting with flavor and artistically plated . If I were to choose my favorite dish I would have to say the Thai basil shrimp outstanding!
Fish is very fresh. The presentation is gorgeous. Restaurant is quiet with attentive service.
Celebrated with friends and we all loved it!
Amazing food and presentation at a great price! Birthday dinner very successful! Great apps, big enough for dinner meals!!
Having been to many upscale Japanese restaurants with decore and service in kimonos this was a hometown affair fit for the local establishment. Right off the main drag..like many of the other eateries one is presented not with a fine dining setting but rather in and out situation. Very basic with a hit of culture and music not to ones softer ear the diner got the impression that the food would probably be blase at best. Great service but not enough detail alluding to a Japanese experience..more to some of the Chinese take outs in my area of Northern Westchester. This is Restaurant Week and my menu is with an appetizer, entree and dessert. I ordered Gyoza stuffed with spicy tuna, a hot bowl of soup with shellfish and no dessert because it was ice cream and I don't eat dairy. For lunch it was sparsely filled with patrons four to be exact. The food came out larger than life and very creative and surprisingly delicious which off set whatever the decore lacked in. Hmmm I thought I got to come back for the regular menu. The shellfish soup was made with coconut milk, vegetables and plenty of shellfish like lobster tail, scallops, mussels and shrimp. It was way too much for me to eat and asked for it to be for a take home. Also, the soup was more in spice (chili which I find to be away from Japanese food...theirs is more bland and veggie) and sweetness because of the use of coconut milk. I was transported to Thailand. For dessert the waiter was kind enough to bring me a wonderfully sliced orange the cut into pieces within the elaborately cut orange. I feel the cooks need plenty of accolades for their craftmanship of the food served...just delicious. The owner can do better with the music and appearance of the place. I will be back again and possibly bring friends for the eating experience. The patrons next to me took pictures of the food...that says something too.
The Paradise roll is my favorite.
Always great food and service.
One of the better places in Westchaster for sushi and cooked food. Service is attentive and prices are moderate.
We ate at Hito when it first opened and loved it. We were disappointed on our second visit. The presentation is extraordinary. It's artful and authentic. The place strives for authenticity. I'm not a fan of fried food or chopped spicy fish, and most of the special rolls contained these ingredients. The seared white tune appetizer was excellent, but skimpy and expensive. My son loved his Dragon roll. My husband and I found the other sushi to be good, but not excellent. The fish was fresh and tasty, but the cuts were not generous and the prices a bit above other places in the area. The atmosphere and attentiveness do make the slight price difference worth it, but I like more generous portions. We will try it again and sample the hot dishes.
Expansive menu with many selections to please everyone, the service was excellent and the food was artfully presented and well prepared.
Chef's specialty rolls are world class. Our favorites rolls are the Angry Dragon and Tiger and the Beef Negimaki as an appetizer.
Food was good. Had Hito special which included 2 salmon, tuna, and yellowtail pieces of sushi as well as a chef special roll. Chef special roll was the best part of the dish. The roll consisted of crab, cream cheese, and avocado with spicy salmon on top. The sushi was fresh. But, the pieces were a little warmer than I would have liked (not so warm as to all it bad). I have been once before and the food was better (would have rated it as a very good). If they can get back on par with that and maintain consistency this place would be a gem.
I have been to Hito about a dozen time, and have always been very pleased with the food and service. The only "weird" thing is that on a Friday and Saturday night, I am always able to get a table. Please spread the word about this excellent restaurant, as it's located in an area on Main St. that has a high business turnover rate :(
I highly recommend their fried calamari, sushi rolls and sashimi. Next time, I am going to try the Chilean sea bass - moderately priced at about $24!
Another plus point is the fact they have an "all-you-can-drink" menu. I will definitely be inviting my coworkers for happy hour there :)
The best part of the experience was the sushi.
Everything was fresh and tasty.
The prices were reasonable (no sushi is cheap) and the special rolls were innovative.o
Decent food, but nothing extraordinary. Service was friendly but a little 'meek', and more reactive than active.
We went early 5:30pm/6pm as we have a baby and a young child. Restaurant only had one or two other tables arrive whilst we were there so hard to tell what the ambiance would be at peak dining hours.
We did not try any sushi/sashimi, only the cooked noodle/rice dishes.
