Historic Revere Tavern Ratings and Reviews
We had a friend in town and wanted to take him some place special. We had been to the Revere Tavern on several previous occasions and enjoyed it very much, but this particular visit was very disappointing. Our orders were taken promptly. The soup (a shrimp crab corn chowder) was delicious, and the salads were fine. But after salads, the drinks had been drained, and it quickly became evident things were off on this night. Our server was very nice, but even walking by several times to attend other tables and guests, our empty plates and bowls weren't cleared and 45 minutes passed before she asked if we wanted any more drinks. Second round of drinks were eventually brought out, but she left once again not having cleared the table, now notably cluttered with empty glasses, salad and appetizer plates, and soup bowls. The entrees arrived over an hour and a half after we arrived. My wife's meal was fine, but my friend and I both ordered the filet mignon (mine medium rare and his medium well). Both were overcooked and cold. Hungry as we were, we notified the server, who apologized and took them back. It was another 25 minutes before the entrees came back, my wife had long since finished her meal, and mine was still cooked medium well instead of medium rare, but I was far too hungry to send it back again. Eventually, a different server finally cleared most of our table. Our server eventually returned and said the manager wanted to comp our desserts for the trouble, and truthfully, we would've passed on dessert altogether had they not been comped. The desserts were okay, fortunately free, but did nothing to rescue the evening.
We're not writing the place off after one bad experience, but we also can't exactly offer any high recommendations after this experience.
It is a gem in the heart of Lancaster County, beautiful building fireplaces. The food was delicious, I had 2 crab cakes full of whole crabmeat my friend had a sirloin steak done to perfection, the wait staff were friendly but not overbearing. The meal was very relaxing we were not rushed at all. I give it 4 stars
My husband were visiting PA and saw that this restaurant was close to where we were staying. My husband had the petite filet and crab cake and I had the stuffed shrimp. We both enjoyed our meals very much. Our waitress was friendly and very attentive. This was a very cozy, quiet restaurant that we will gladly visit again when we are in the area again.
Nice restaurant for this area especially if you want to skip the buffets. They have a kids menu though a wouldn't bring very rambunctious kids because most people are there on dates. Food was good -mushroom ravioli and tenderloin tips (very rich, they forgot the vegetable)- but the service was lacking. Our waitress seemed totally overwhelmed. The drinks, even soft drinks, were very slow to come out. My mother waited 20 mins for seltzer. We never got a bread basket. I think there is something off in the way they staff.
This is the first time in many years that I was not happy with the food here. We had the veal parm and it was over cooked and the cheese was burnt on top. The stuffed shrimp was rubbery and difficult to chew. The service was quick and the waitress was attentive. I am hoping this was a "off night" for the chef, since I have always raved about this place.
The ambiance of the tavern was great and the service was good.
I was very disappointed in the quality of the rolls, there should have been more options. The salad was obviously premade and therefore not fresh.
The mushroom ravioli was not very appetizing. There was a bitter taste to the sauce.
Very interesting, very rich in history. I was expecting an informal historic pub/tavern. While there is a very active bar, the main dining room had a more formal feel. Very pretty, VERY historic. The short history on the menu was really fascinating. Steaks were excellent; mushroom ravioli exceptional. Large portions.
I would return.
We had not been to this restaurant in many years. Menu has changed and also the chef. We both enjoyed our meals which were prime rib and the scallops. Service was also great and the place is so pretty and historical. Will certainly go back next time we are in the area.
Had not visited Lancaster for a few years and was eager to dine at one of my favorite area restaurants. The experience was far from satisfactory. At times we felt that our waitress had literally disappeared. We returned our cocktails because they were so poorly made. The Caesar dressing was so bitter that it ruined the salad. On a positive note, the lamb chops were cooked to taste and delicious. The parfait sundae excellent! The decor appropriate for this historic locale.
The restaurant is very old and has a lot of character to it. The food was average. The best dish that our table had was the corn seafood chowder. It was excellent. The rest of our dinners were pretty average with not much seasoning at all. I had the pan seared halibut which was pretty good but my husband had the chicken parmesan special and it was just fair.
My wife & I were visiting Amish country, and we stumbled upon the Historic Revere Tavern. It was a lovely old and authentic house. The food and service were both very good but nothing to write home about. One minor disappointment was that the story of this old tavern wasn't shown on the menu; we would have liked to learn more.
The food was great, however they are a little heavy handed on the basil for our liking. Spaghetti sauce was a little strong with it and his corn had basil too. Couldn't eat that. Lobster bisque was excellent and French onion soup was good. He said his ribeye was very tasty and my chicken parm was extra tender. Strawberry shortcake was good, but we took out half the cake. We will go back again.
