Amazing food. The chilies relleno was fantastic. So was the table side guac! Jess our waitress made our dinner extra fabulous! I highly recommend this place. We had no idea it was even there. Thank you open table for making me aware!
Our favorite Latin restaurant. The food and service are always excellent.
Always an enjoyable experience! The table-side guacamole is made to order - just the best!
You will find very unique menu items at this Mexican restaurant. Guacamole prepared table side and the salmon appetizer are not to be missed.Highly recommend the Chilean Sea Bass with quinoa and the Chicken Mole.
Fresh, simple food. Excellent margaritas and guacamole.
This is a plain little restaurant in an unassuming little mall...but we'd read the reviews and expected a little more. It all began well, with a delightfully friendly and accommodating server. The food, however, was less than memorable, and my chicken-based dish was notably dry and hardly spicy. The really difficult part of the evening began later with the singer's appearance. Though he had a good voice, sang authentic Spanish songs, and prompted enthusiastic bartender accompaniment on the castanets, he was just too loud for conversation to be able to continue in this small space....and we'd really wanted to talk more. All in all, an unfortunate combination.
I have eaten at this restaurant twice now and both times the overall experience was fantastic from the service to the food. This is an authentic restaurant with unique meals not found at other Mexican/Spanish restaurants. Unfortunately both times I have been there the restaurant is basically empty and that is shame. Prices are more than fair and cocktails are great. Try the Pisco Sour which is made with shaken egg white.
Overpriced!!!! Food was mediocre at best!!! Will not return to this restaurant!!!
2nd time to Hispania. We (wife and I) have been very pleased the both times we have dined there. It has a wide variety of foods from central America.
The atmosphere is quiet and there were musicians after 6:30 on the Saturday night we dined.
A nice change from the usual supper club fare that is very common in Southern Wisconsin.
Expensive, small portions, bland. Never going back.
Hispania provides you options for any Hispanic dining style. Tapas? Check. Traditional Mexican? Check. Mexican Fusion? Check. Delicious margaritas? For sure. While the price point left us feeling the simple tacos from the traditional portion of the menu were a little too simple, the Tapas options were delicious while three were plenty, and maybe more than, for one person. Coupled with two delicious margaritas (Hibiscus and Cucumber), it was a very good meal. We wished for a little more folume and/or flair out of a Certified Angus Beef taco entree, but it was well-compensated for by the delicious table-side guacamole, or which a 1/2 order was plenty for this couple. I recommend trying it out, but not if you're looking for the absolute most value out of your buck. To me, part of the cost went into the options and opportunity to try something new.
We came in early to have a drink at the bar and ended up talking to the bartender who we think was the owner he suggested a couple drinks that we never had before. tried one of them that was a different kind of old-fashioned which was really really good and we sat down we had the sushi grade tuna tacos and the duck tacos. The tuna tacos were awesome the duck tacos were good.
We had a lovely dinner and would highly recommend this restaurant.
My wife and I went there for our anniversary...atmosphere was nice but I feel like was overpriced of what you get. If you're going to give out dainty portions, at lease make sure they taste amazing. I wouldn't say the items we had were bad...just bland and not worth the price.
Awesome Guacamole made at your table.
Chicken skewer with chorizo creme sauce is tremendous small plate!
Then best dessert is the Tres Leche cake.
The bartender was super friendly and attentive. The food is fresh and outstanding!
Really good food, we had a table of five and sampled a lot of different items on the menu. All was really flavorful. Duck tacos were great but really could have used a little hit of cilantro and some greens. We were there on a Saturday and even with a large party in the restaurant the waiter was very attentive, and owner came over to thank us for visiting. If I lived closer I would be there all of the time, I hope Lake Country knows how lucky they are to have this place.
This place has been a family favorite for a year now. We have become regulars and always enjoy the wonderful atmosphere and staff at Hispania. A must when visiting Delafield.
The food was excellent as was the service. We enjoyed the atmosphere as well. A very nice place to visit.
We are 3 of us New Years Day and had a wonderful dinner with tasty and fresh Chilean Sea Bass special and and tiger pawn shrimp meals. Our service from Georgio was excellent and he also helped our daughter with a kids meal from lunch menu. The restaurant has good ambience and that night had live music. This was our 2nd time and we will be back again. This is a hidden gem in Delafield.
My spouse and I went to Hispania for a date night. We eat out at least a few times per week, typically in Milwaukee, but wanted to try a different location. Most of the reviews for Hispania were great so I was very excited to try it, but boy, what a letdown! To make a long story short, our server made an unprompted apology for his slow service after our meal and said he knew he could have done better. Definitely one of the worst restaurant service experiences I have ever had and he was only serving ONE other table the whole time we were there. The food was VERY overpriced and nothing to write home about. Won't be returning.
I hate to give more than 4 stars, but this restaurant is so great on every level. The reviews that compare La Hispania with Mazatlan down the street are very misleading. That is like comparing a linen napkin to a paper towel. Mazatlan is where you go when you have rambunctious kids in your group or you want to drink margaritas from a fishbowl. La Hispania is the place to go for white linen tablecloths, beautiful flavors, & quiet music. One is loud and bright. The other is contemporary and artistic. I've eaten at both many times, and I think that it's crazy that Delafield refuses to embrace its only upscale Latin America restaurant. There's blue-collar Mexican food available all over the place in this area. La Hispania is in a different league. We should support upscale diversity in our restaurant scene or we'll lose it.
When you walk away thinking that your cucumber margarita and the guacamole were the best things you had, then the food has lots of room for improvement. Granted we did not order entrees. Instead we ordered the sampler appetizer, tortilla soup and traditional plate of tacos to share. After telling the waitress we were underwhelmed, she did say that she would have recommended several of the entrees. I understand that, but if you can't do the basics right... The tortilla soup was more of a bisque with no "chunks" and definitely needed some spices to liven it up. The tacos were just small chunks of steak (some quite grizzly), onions and cilantro. Both of the salsa that it came with were quite bland as well (and I've had a lot of tomatillo salsas).
Hispania is a great place for Latin fusion food - not your American cheese stuffed taco!
The diners with me who took the waiter's recommendations were thrilled with their choices. I chose enchiladas - I'd forgotten how dry and lacking in filling they are. But the tableside guac was fantastic as were the margaritas1
Food was awesome and waiter was engaging, although service a bit slow. The restaurant wasn't too busy (7PM), which we like, and dinner took around 1.5 hours. Really liked the crab cake appetizer and unique menu options. Ambiance was nice and noise level low - that could have been due to the fact that there were only five or six tables occupied. This is a good restaurant and should be on your list if you like to try new things.
My two dinner companions and I loved our entrees, each different. Appreciated the simple but interesting and varied menue. Our server was friendly but unavailable, appeared to have too many tables to take care of. Took at least 30 minutes to take our order and otherwise largely inattentive. Fortunately noticed a help wanted sign at the entrance which explained the problem. However, will definitely give it another try.
Excellant, so many items that I wanted to order, but plan to return. Great wine list and cocktails! Looking forward to return.
Good was good. service was attentive and friendly. Nice decor and ambiance.
There was almost a ceremony to the way everything was served. Our server, Martine, was friendly and knowledgable about the menu. Special touches were applied when serving each course. Portion sizes were just right. It was all about the flavor of the food and and the beauty of a well set table. There was a talented guitarist and singer playing traditional music throughout our visit.
Had an absolutely perfect meal here. I live in Chicago but was in town having dinner with the future in laws. Coming from the city, I've had Latin fusion a few times. This place can hang with the very best. I was honestly surprised to get great Latin fusion food in suburban(ish) Wisconsin. Definitely get the guacamole and the tres leches. Service was great too. I'll be back.
The service and the food were top notch. The ingredients were fresh and delicious...we ordered salad (go with the cilantro dressing!), soup of the day (mushroom with pinenuts), table-side guacamole (not to be missed!), steak tacos (even great the next day!), and chicken and beef flautas. We will be back!
The food was good, but it couldn't make up for the horrible service.
My wife and I've been there several times over the last month, the food is been a great and service has been great. We were able to get in right away and the food is delish and fairly quick which helps us get in and out given we have a very busy family situation. I travel a lot and eat out the majority of my meals every week and I'm very picky and this place is great.
This was our first visit to Hispania and I used OpenTable for the reservation. We had a party of 4 and went to bar prior to our reservation. At dinner the food presentation was good and the Pork Carnitas were very good. The waiter suggested a better grade pork , which was very tender. The cost of dinner is about $12-20 per plate. We had good service and a good time so we will be back.
Everything was good, but it all had a bit of an almost-great feature to it without getting over that hump. The downside was that it was priced more accordingly for the latter ($100 dinner for 2). Entrees were very mild and tame where a bit of kick or a little something extra could have made this a new favorite place. Presentation is very nice as the food looks great. The location is wonderful and the design and layout are both very nice.
From 7 salsa and chips. . The entrees are on the expensive side for kind of bland and under seasoned food. The portion size is a bit small for the price that you normally expect for Mexican food. Better than big chains but not worth the price.
House salad is delicious fresh and different from the usual with the cilantro dressing it really gets you ready for a wonderful entree but twice those are disappointing. Had both sea bass and a pork dish both were bland and uninteresting which is really disappointing. Place is so well done and comfortable you really expect something more. If you are looking for something special in your entree it doesn't seem to be there. Go for drinks and apps or the house salad which is great.
I was so excited to try Hispania restaurant when it opened. After talking with friends everyone said it was overpriced but I had to see for myself. Their menu is latin american /spanish fusion. Not the typical taco/burritos mexican restaurant. I was up for something different.
The night we went was the night of the Delafield Art Fair so I made a reservation so we could get a table. There were tables available in the restaurant , but no hostess to seat us. We waited 1/2 hour to be seated. We finally did get a table outside, which was nice. The service was extremely slow and poor. We asked several time for more chips with the table side guacamole that we had ordered but they never came. The bartender ended up being our waiter. The drinks are small. The food was tasteless and bland, not at all what I was hoping for.
Perhaps it was the night and they were not prepared for the crowds that came , but our dining experience was not great and I would not recommend it .
Outstanding. food and service. My wife had Talipia and I the pork tenderloin in peanut sauce.
Only complaint no coffee refills and no salt and pepper on table.
Pricey but worth it.
This was a nice high end restaurant with romantic live music. My wife was very appreciative for the evening out.
