Hiro's – Petaluma is a Japanese restaurant, popular among its patrons for its fresh sushi and Japanese cuisine. The restaurant has an intimate setting with large floor to ceiling windows pouring in natural light during the day and giving the street views at night. The ambiance is casual and pleasant, and customers prefer to visit this place for lunch and dinner with family and friends. There is a sushi bar with chairs around it, as well. The waiting staff is professional and responsive, and serves food in a timely manner.
Hiro's – Petaluma features a full Japanese menu with a wide selection of food items. The menu highlights are bento box combinations, nigiri sushi & sashimi, makimono sushi rolls, salads and entrées. The restaurant provides free car and bike parking facility in its private parking lot. For homebodies, Hiro's – Petaluma offers home delivery and takeout services. The premises is family-friendly and wheelchair accessible, as well.
Not really sure why things have declined at Hiro's; but, they need to review this site and take corrective action to improve or they won't be in business much longer. When we arrived at 6 PM, we were 2 of 5 patrons in the facility. Plenty of staff were present and pleasant to work with during our meal. However, it took sometime to get our food. I had sushi and my wife had a Bento Box. What I didn't know was that when our food did arrive, my wife ate her food without much comment as she was hungry, my wife's Bento Box contents were cold. Apparently, Hiro's staff coordination between my Chef's Choice Sushi and her Bento Box was way off schedule. Yes, my wife could have said something immediately. However, it took quite some time to receive our order in the first place and she knew it would not set well with me because I really enjoy sushi. Upon receiving our bill, my wife did express to our waiter that her food was cold upon arrival and that they should coordinate customer food orders better. The waiter did say he was sorry. But again, no shift leader or manager checked back with us whatsoever.
We will try this establishment one more time. If things haven't improved the next review will be most unflattering and it perhaps will be our last adventure with Hiro's.
I believe the waitress was new and over whelmed. It took 30 minutes to place our order and at one point incorrect food came to the table. One of the appetizers didn't have the scallops as mentioned on the menu and my miso soup and house salad was forgotten completely (I remembered this after we left) The food was fresh , simple and presented very well. The ambiance is very nice and it is quiet and allows for conversations. The waitress apologized many times and mentioned they were short one waitress and brought us edamame for our patience. The check took another 15 minutes to be picked up. It was my birthday dinner and nothing could dampen our moods. I would return because my son and his girlfriend had a previously positive experience and I am sure this was a one-off experience.
Scheduled reservations as required. Upon arrival had to wait for doors to be unlocked; but, was the first to be seated. Staff provided menu's and took drink order. Staff seated a few other parties and returned to take order. When providing our sushi order that's when we're told the sushi chef was going to be late and it would be 30 - 45 minutes before any sushi order could be prepared. NOT GOOD! Subsequently, changed order as we were hungry. What food was prepared was good. However, never got any sushi, the whole purpose to come to the facility in the first place! No manager or shift leader bothered to apologize they were unable to provide what they advertise, SUSHI.
Extremely poor service
We arrived when there were not many people in the restaurant and the service was really poor!
The food was very good to fair. The California roll was super, but Calamari was over cooked & dry. Nice space, hope they can fix the service & food issues.
Great sushi spot downtown. Not very busy on a Sunday night. Recommended!
I had a living social deal and booked 8:30 dinner for two! We arrived a bit late, the waiter did let us know that the kitchen would be closing soon so we looked at the menu right away. We put in our food order and we discussed drinks! The waiter was very helpful and friendly! The food was wonderful, drinks (aphrodisiac and white peach sake blended drink) were great and the waiter was amazing! Really above and beyond service!!! We would for sure come back again!
We LOVE Hiro's appetizers -- especially their cigar spring rolls -- so we made a special effort to return here recently to make a meal of appetizers and wine. There was just a single server for the entire dining room during our meal. As a result, our appetizers came out at three (!) different times and there was a significant wait between the time we got our wine and when our first appetizer was served. The food was good but our server was so busy our meal was less enjoyable than it could have been.
Me and my boyfriend had the spider roll, dynamite roll, and the lion king roll. All were spectacular. Waitstaff was very friendly and observant. Defiantly will be returning.
I LOVE the food at this place, unfortunately, I feel the service has declined significantly. Wait staff is not attentive (also can be visibly stressed and irritable) and food can take a while to get out. It didn't used to be that way. Because of that, I don't go often but when I'm really craving good Japanese food I give in. The food is delicious enough that I'm willing to suffer through bad service for it. I think this place could be 5 stars if they hired better wait staff or provided them with more training. Maybe they need more staff for dinner on the weekends? The owner is very friendly, as well as the guys at the front making sushi.
Not so much any more. Food ok, no longer fabulous. Portion sizes tiny. Not that we ever needed all that rice. The fish pieces were minuscule, although fresh-ish. Rainbow roll small. Restaurant could use a deep and thorough cleaning. Server struggled with our order, forgot drinks completely. While we wish Hiro the best as they attempt to return to their former glory, we will wait a while before trying again.
Doesn't stand out much from shopping center or strip mall sushi/Japanese restaurant options. Just okay.
This once fabulous neighborhood gem has gone down. The service was so horrible we didn't stay long enough to order. Had an incredible experience a few blocks down at Kabuki.
We were looking to have a traditional Valentine's Day dinner at either a steak house or maybe Italian. Unfortunately I called for reservations too late.
My wife suggested Hiro's as an alternate dining spot. We secured a reservation through OpenTable.
Hero's turned out to be an excellent choice for dinner. My wife, friends from out of state, and I had a wonderful experience. As busy as it was the service was very good and attentive. We all had different dishes and they were all very very good. From various selections of Bento Boxes to Fish Tempura we were extremely happy with our choices.
Hiro's made for a perfect Valentine's Day.
6 of us went for an early dinner. We had calamari as an appetizer. It was cooked properly and served with a nice (spicy) sauce. We each chose a roll from the menu and shared them around the table. Each roll was quite different and we liked all of them. Try the Dragon Roll and the Pink Lady. They even brought extra ginger for the table.
HIROS was a nice surprise, great salmon teriyaki & unusual noodle dish with seafood.
Very disappointed with this restaurant. Calamari came out lukewarm, service was really slow, restaurant temperature was cold. We were looking for a more traditional Japanese restaurant.
this used to be our favorite Japanese restaurant. Japanese eat with their eyes. In this case, they would need to be blindfolded. Completely unappetizing presentation. The rainbow roll looked like something that had crawled out from under a rock, and the Spider a Roll was even worse. Yuck.. At this rate, this restaurant won't be here next year.
After the first visit of super slow service, decided to give them another try and the food was great again and the service was much better. Will come back, just may shy away from weekend nights.
Hiro not long ago was a busy restaurant with excellent service and food. The service, while well intentioned, isn't acceptable and impacts the food and overall experience. Two efficient servers would transform the venue.
This was my 5th or 6th visit to Hiro's but my first visit through OpenTable. My previous visits have been enjoyable, with the food being Good and the service being Fair. This visit overall was Poor but I've rated it Good to properly weight my visits in total... Upon seating we soon realized the neighboring tables were upset with the long wait for food. Our food didn't arrive until 45 minutes in, the miso soup was lukewarm, the sashimi had too much wasabi, the sushi was good. We learned one of the waiters no showed their shift that evening, the remaining servers were inexperienced. All that being said, I will return in hopes that this was an off night.
We had a wonderful dinner. The tempura was not greasy and very light. Waitress was very busy but kept her sense of humor.
It was one of the strangest experiences I ever had in a restaurant. The staff appeared to be hired yesterday without the slightest inkling of serving food or relating to the customer. We ordered appetizers to start and then some sake of which they had a long list of hot and cold. With the first round there were explanations of not having what we ordered available and gave us a reasonable facsimile of the sake we ordered. I then ordered a second cold sake. When I tasted it I thought I was in the twilight zone. It tasted exactly like cold water...because it was. The waiter's explanation was that there were many bottles that looked the same and he poured from one of them! Faith in whatever was brought to our table became severely limited!
The food was great, but they were understaffed for the evening and it took over an hour from the time that we sat down to get our food. Once the food arrived it was outstanding though.
fish, didn't seem fresh. rolls were tasteless. appetizers non inventive and amazingly one app. came with "tomato based sauce" which was literally KETCHUP; went years ago was better then went down hill, decided to try again, it will be last time; sad, owner seems a good guy, quality is just not there.
good foods, but the portion is too small. was a quiet evening, but I have to wait a long time for the food.
My brother who lives in Petaluma suggested this Japanese place. I was glad to see poke on the menu, a lot of unusual rolls and great combos. My tempura was attractively presented, generous with Tiger shrimp and delish. A tasty bargain!
We like Japanese food so we looked online for a Japanese restaurant. We did not realize that there would be no parking, so we had to walk quite a distance. We definitely did not feel welcomed, as we entered the front door. In fact, we got the feeling like we were intruding. Finally someone told us to follow him to a table, and we sat for a good 5 minutes before being waited on. HOWEVER, the food was very good, once we were served.
Due to horrible Friday night traffic, we got there with less than an hour before closing. Although the restaurant was quite empty, the food arrived at a snails pace. In addition, they made mistakes to both our entrees. Despite all this, the food was quite tasty.
Good selections of Japanese sushi/sashimi items. Very accommodating of gluten free patrons. Fresh seafood... will return.
