HILLTOP 1892 Ratings and Reviews
We came here for my husband's birthday. We brought a cake for the celebration. There were 5 guests in attendance. The cake we brought was a small chocolate moose. Somehow the cake got mixed up with another's group cake. Their cake was a large sheet cake that would feed 20 people. Lucky we noticed it before it was cut.
We were charged $3.00 per person to cut our cake. We felt that the fee should have been waived due to this big embarrassment. Especially since they sung Happy birthday to Kathy instead of Ron.
I celebrated my birthday with my family and it’s the 1st time in quite a while I have eaten here. It was very loud when we first sat down at 7:00 pm (Saturday evening) and a bit hard to hold a conversation. It got better during our evening. Dinner was very good with the exception of the fried calamari we had as an appetizer. My vegetarian meal was excellent.
Hostess should learn not to fling her hair. Service was fairly attentive, not spectacularly so.
Most of the food was good (eggs benedict, clam chowder, fries); however, I didn't like their rendition of "Toad in a Hole" and definitely didn't like the red pepper sauce on top of it.
We have returned to this restaurant for the food and atmosphere, but have to honestly say the place is poorly managed. Staff is friendly and seems to be working hard, but service has been terribly slow on multiple occasions. We waited over and hour for our dinner and requests for condiments or drink refills never happened. Management is lacking as it seemed that no one was paying attention to the ridiculously long waits for food at most of the tables around us. Too bad as we really want to like this place , but is repeatedly disappointing.
Well what a shame. Great location for a restaurant. However the service was terrible. You had to ask twice fir everything, fork, dressing, bread. Simple things. The manager was more interested about chatting with the you girl at the bar. The server even spilled Brussels sprouts in my guests lap. Food was so so and oysters were not fresh. I travel for business and eat out four days a week. This is one of the wort restaurants I've ever been to. We will not be Back!
Everything was delicious. The server was very knowledgeable in regards to the menu and answered any questions that we had. He was training a young lady where she herself was professional and lovely. Worth the drive from Santa Rosa. I'll definitely recommend the Hilltop 1892 to friends.
Started our brunch with Bloody Mary's which were bland and don't know if there was any alcohol. I ordered an open face sandwich with an egg, avacado, tomato. The toasted bread was burnt and there was very little flavor and wasn't very generous. I had been to Hilltop years ago and it wasn't good then and has not improved.
The egg plant Parmesan must have been made the day before and was reheated; we could not cut through the top layer with a steak knife. It was a very odd recipe. The margarita with undrinkable and had to be sent back. The bread was good. The wine was on the expensive side.
Great service . Restaraunt decor very nice. We had a table by the window and we were able to enjoy the view.nice selection of brunch items and drinks. The only negative thing was I bought the food could have been hotter. It was brought to our table warm but was very tasty. I noted on OpenTable that our table was celebrating a birthday but no mention was made.
We were a party of eight with one in a high chair celebrating a birthday at Sunday brunch. The staff gave us the private room in the back, and it couldn't have been more perfect. I was worried they'd forget about us back there, but we had wonderful service. And the food was plentiful and delicious. They even accommodated us with two omelets that were not on the menu. Portions were so large that several of us took half home. It's been a week since we were there, and everyone is still talking about how perfect our brunch at the Hilltop was.
Samuel was great and a wonderful server. She was delightful and explained the menu well. My husband and daughter enjoyed the prawn salad. My sister liked the fresh mussels and pasta dish. Price was modest......we love coming here!! The BEST view in northern Marin especially at sunset♡
We have enjoyed Hilltop in the past. One year ago it was excellent, from top to bottom. This visit felt like both quality and price had been lowered. Still tasty, for the most part, but not at all the special meal that we had enjoyed a year ago. It was very disappointing.
The best thing about Hilltop is the view, especially on a warm summer evening. Service was spotty. We had made reservations for the patio and the restaurant was unprepared for our arrival. Hostess expected the server to put tables together for our group of 5 even though he was busy with other customers. Food is OK . Dessert options are best.
