Nice venue, beautiful view, reliable quality overall.
Not sure how the rating on noise was to be done, more bar good or more noise? Anyway, food was great and the service was outstanding!! A great way to spend Valentines Day dinner.
Love the ambiance and fabulous view! Feel right at home
Great food for our valentines dinner. Service was average at best.
Had a nice meal with friends.
Beautiful setting, very nice staff, the chicken curry was unfortunately not up to par but I'd give it another try.
Went for Sunday Brunch - was looking forward to a Hangtown Fry. I was told a large party ate all the oysters. Really? You don't shuck them - and you run out of one of your main Brunch dishes. Our waiter really tried to service everyone but we were told one of the waiters phoned in sick at last minute. Assistant manager looking guy kept wandering around and seemed totally confused.
Server overwhelmed with too many tables plus a private party to serve. The basket of scones not as delicious as previous Chef Todd’s. I ordered short rib hash but the meat was bland. Had to ask for salsa/chipotle sauce to flavor it. My friend had huevos ranchero with a chille relleno She said it was good. The server did not once come to ask how our meal was. He didn’t have time!
Wondered where the floor manager was because he could’ve helped alleviate the waits & stress.
Good varied menu. Choices of cocktails, wine (nice pinot noirs), beer, and an excellent selection of ports. The steak frites was labeled "kobe beef" but wasn't particularly tender, even under attack by a steak knife. I'll probably go back and try other dishes.
Great time, at a great place. Food was wonderful service was excellent.
The waiter was very rude
It was as if we were there to adjust to his schedule
The food was ok nothing special as in previous times but the service was just awful
Even the person that brought the food (not the waiter) seemed put off by a request for some olive oil: he did not respond to the request and went to the waiter to complain which made the waiter even more unpleasant
All the dishes were great. I took my parent who were visiting from Chico. We had the Lamb Shank; Shrimp pasta and the Pot Roast. All were done to perfection. The only comment i would make was that not all the dishes came out at the same time. One was a little delayed. Overall - wonderful dinner with the parents.
Gorgeous view. Good food. And we could hear each other. Perfect!
Delicious dinner, pretty view of the sunset. Bar very busy and noisy at happy hour, but restaurant is quiet enough for conversation. Attentive service.
A wonderful place to meet friends for a meal. Great food at competitive prices. Ambiance is very nice. Service great.
Would have enjoyed dinner in bar but found there were kids in there. Surprised kids are allowed in bar area. Noise in dining room was louder than expected. Not a place for intimate dining.
We first had drinks and appetizers for happy hour and thought the value was good, pleasant atmosphere, good service. We moved into the dining room and although the restaurant was pretty empty, or food took an inappropriately long time to arrive. We were celebrating my husband's birthday, and were surprised to be charged for his dessert. I may be wrong, but I thought nicer restaurants usually don't charge for a birthday dessert. The food we had was really tasty and nice size portions.
Really easy going, great food, great drinks. We’ll be back!
Very enjoyable. A little noisy.
Food was terrific. Able to converse without yelling. Service was terrific
It was our anniversary. We will certainly be back, as often as possible. Didn't get a chance to check out the bar, it looked very inviting. Thank you.
Great food, great view, great service - what else is there to say!
Hilltop is one of our go to spots for good food and pleasant atmosphere.
We just discovered Hilltop and I can't believe we've lived in Novato for 5 years and only just discovered it! I brought my husband here for his birthday and it was a big hit. The service was great and prompt, our server Jenny was so friendly and on top of things. My husband had white wine and I had the cucumber martini and it was super delicious. For appetizer we had the crab dip and it was heavenly! For the main course hubby had the rib eye special with mashed potatoes and burbon sauce and he said it was the best he'd had. I chose the lighter orzo with veggies in wine sauce, it was very good. Sadly we were too full for dessert but Jenny noticed the birthday card I gave him and she made sure we got a small bag of chocolates with a card on the way out. I've never gotten such great service! The restaurant itself if gorgeous and the views were beautiful. We will definitely be back soon even if it's just for cocktails by the fire place. So glad we found Hilltop!
This was a New Years Eve dinner.. and the food was delicious, the service by Jen was top-notch and the ambiance was fun. The only thing I would have liked more was if my food was served hotter. It came out lukewarm even though the plate it was served on was hot. I was too hungry to send it back but for the price I would expect the food to be served at the right temperature.
We had very poor service. Sat 15-20 minutes before a server appeared. Eventually the entrees arrived without the salad ordered. We then declined salad.
Birthday chocolates were a nice surprise. We had to wonder if staff was just hired. They didn’t have the experience?
Great food, great service, great gluten-free options - first time here and we will be back. This is a hidden gem on the hill. We went for dinner, so could not really enjoy the view. The next visit will be for lunch.
We are here coming down to SF. Easy stop off 101. Nice crab cakes .. great location and view.
It was holiday they still did good!
We chose Hilltop because on the menu on yelp/open table had lobster Mac n cheese and when we got there found out it is no longer on the menu. There was a mistake on one of our main courses and one of us had to wait quite a while for the right food to arrive. The writer did comp the item. After our order no one came back to see how things were nor refill any of our beverages. The food was good but could have been warmer.
It appeared like a good spot and menu for a birthday dinner but the food was like Denny’s quality at fine dining prices. The eggplant parmigiana layers were dry and the sauce was watery and bland. The other dishes were run of the mill and not particularly tasty. The lights were bright and the restaurant was noisy. The chairs were stained and forks were sticky. Probably an ok place to take the family if you live nearby and don’t mind spending the money, but not a great choice for a date or special occasion.
We were excited to try out this place. It is very retro and is probably charming to some. However, we had absolutely terrible service and at 130pm during Sunday brunch they were out of fish and chips. It took about 10 minutes before someone even came to our table. We had to ask for water and silverware and napkins, the table had nothing on it; not even salt and pepper. We ended up ordering the monte cristo sandwich and the short rib hash with eggs. It took another 25-30 minutes for our food to come out and when it did, it wasn’t hot. We were offered the option of truffle fries versus regular fries (which ended up being an up charge unbeknownst to us). When a different waitress brought our food, the fries looked and tasted like normal fries so we inquired if they were truffle fries and she said “sure”. She pointed to “the green stuff” sprinkled on the fries and said that made them truffle fries. The “green stuff” was parsley. The monte cristo was basically a grilled ham and cheese with powdered sugar on it. It was also not served with raspberry jam, which was unusual. We were excited to order the short rib hash and eggs and it was also a huge disappointment. It was just large chunks of day old short rib and large chunks of potatoes. The meat was dry and the dish did not come together at all. Our over medium eggs were also dry and hard. Unfortunately it was not a good meal, coupled with terrible service. I couldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Early Christmas Dinner with my son visiting from out of town
Great place - really enjoyed the meal and view ! Service was great as well!
Beautifully decorated and beautiful views. Charming service.
We love Hilltop for the local ambiance, great view and large screen TV's in the bar.
Went for Sunday Brunch. The coffee was bad, had that bitter metallic taste from sitting too long. Ordered the Crabcake Benedict and had to send it back. The crab was burned and been fried in rancid oil that should have been changed last week. Service was terse, slow, and lacking. Sorry, I can not recommend this place.
I took my fiancé there for her 60th birthday party. The food was excellent and the view was outstanding! The service was pretty good, but our waiter definitely had his hands full with a large party nearby. All-in-all the evening was an overwhelming success! Thank you Hilltop!
One meal came out 15-20 min before the rest of the others. Server was pleasant but didn’t check on the table near often enough. Food was very good.
Food was ok, calamari appetizer was delicious. Service was amazing!!!! Kids menu lacks a bit, my kids didn't like the pasta. Dessert was fabulous, honestly should have just gone for dessert.
This was my fourth and final time visiting the hilltop restaurant. The food is by far excellent to say the least and would give it five stars for the food alone. However the service here every time has been less than stellar, it seems that other tables don’t fare as badly as I have.
After a while of having yet again been ignored by our waitress, I started to watch to see how other tables were doing; the table next to us who had a young couple seem to be getting about as much attention as we did. However a table close to the windows with a group of five people had constant and uninterrupted attention by our server. Not real sure why that was, I counted at least five times our server went to that table, and I could not get a refill on a cup of coffee (and never did), not to mention that the plates were piling up at our table! It wasn’t until one of the busboys noticed the pile of dishes at our table that he asked another busboy to help them clear the dishes.
I had the fillet, and my girlfriend had the pork chop and both were perfectly prepared and delicious along with the sides.
I highly recommend this restaurant for the food, but be prepared to be completely ignored unless you have that certain sparkle in your eye that catches the attention of the servers... what that maybe I have no idea. I travel a lot for business and always appreciate good service, even a crummy meal with good service is not such a bad evening. And even though she did not deserve it I still gave our server 15% for a tip when I never tip less than 20%.
Good Luck and enjoy the food.
