Hillside Farmacy Ratings and Reviews
I went here with my friend before a show at the Frank Erwin Center on a Sunday evening. We arrived earlier than our reservation but they seated us right away. The place was pretty empty but that doesn't usually matter to me. It's a gorgeous place, very old-looking with modern touches here and there. There's something interesting to see anywhere you look. Our food was ordered and it took a bit longer than expected but it was delicious. The fountain sodas are really good and I loved that you can add alcohol to them if you wish or just drink them without. The Numba Six was good but I don't love coleslaw so I didn't care for the small side of it that came with the sandwich. Overall it was a delicious meal and pleasant experience.
The ambiance and outdoor seating are great. The restaurant wasn't very busy on a Friday night at 8:00. The food was good, but with inconsistencies. We ordered mussels and were told bread would accompany them. We received two small croutons that looked like garnish for a Caesar salad. The table next to us got large pieces of bread with theirs. Our server said sorry, but did nothing to remedy the issue. The dish cost $18.
The best part of the evening was that the servers were very friendly. I found the portion size on the main course (roasted chicken) to be rather small, and I really am not a big eater. Any grown adult likely would find it lacking in quantity. The flavors were good, just not much of it to enjoy.
They were out of a lot of things, service was pretty slow for being empty, the food was good but not great, and they served a desert that was different than what was on the menu. I'd had a good experience before but this time was a fail. Not sure I'd go back any time soon.
The place looks great! great ambiance.
The food took 45 minutes to arrive and it was underwhelming. My "Pork Loin" was a breaded Wienerschnitzel.
All in all - not a bad place, might go back - had interesting and fun drinks. But the service was very slow (we ran out of drinks including water after 20 mins, was not asked if we wanted anything else until the food arrived at the 45 minute mark)
It should be noted that our table was serviced by the bartender who looked busy! There were waiters covering other tables and I would think they got better/faster service than us - so our experience might not be the norm.
Food was good. Service was terrific. Parking was a challenge but I knew that going in. Sat outside after having the table near the washroom door, which is unfortunate a table is in that location but their space is limited. Otherwise, loved the place. The menu is modest as is the wine list but both were superb. Will definitely dine here again.
The cocktails were good. The oysters were tasty. Very few entrees on the menu, particularly if you don't want beef. I ordered pasta by default, and it was fine but not special. Husband liked his steak and fries. We were seated in side dining room, which was dim and lacking in ambience. I wouldn't go back.
I wanted to take my bf here for his birthday (which I noted on the reservation) specifically because they have oysters on the menu. When we got there they didn't have oysters (they are in season). Then they didn't have 2 other dishes I ordered. They only had one steak left, which thankfully bf was able to get before someone else ordered it. The waitress was not very helpful. Despite the lack of food we wanted and the special occasion there was no attempt to make the experience more enjoyable. The food we got was very good, however I would not expect them to add value to your night.
Hillside Farmacy has such a unique and fun ambiance! The restaurant is really cozy, and I enjoyed my time there. Additionally, the butternut squash ravioli was AMAZING and would recommend it to anyone trying Hillside Farmacy for the first time :)
