What Insiders Are Saying
Hillside Farmacy is just as excellent as it is attractive.
My wife and I took our visiting son and his girlfriend out. The venue is awesome and the food even better. We tried original cocktails and then had several appetizers, salads and entrees and all were great. Our server was new and didn't know too much about the menu, but she had a great attitude and answered all of our questions. It was a very memorable night.
Fantastic egg sandwich
Welcomed as we entered. Place was warm and inviting. Parking a little weird but free! Menu choices are slightly limited but everything we had was well made and tasted great.
Steak had no taste. Not with the value.
Ate earlier in the day, 5:30. The place was not busy. We sat in the wine bar area. The decor was very charming. Service was good. She was knowledgeable about was the food (especially the oysters which were delicious) and the wine. Had a great time. Will be back frequently.
Food was ok, everybody got different items. Interesting it was an old pharmacy!
Dined around 5:30 on Saturday before a movie and for us it was delightfully uncrowded and quiet. All 4 of us thought everything we ordered was very good, except for the crab cakes, which were rated by the fellow who ordered them as "best ever tasted." The vinegar fries also were a big hit. Food delivery was a little slow considering the small crowd and service could have been a tad more attentive, but overall everyone had a good experience and we would definitely visit again.
Fabulous food, ambience and service. Mac n cheese and chocolate mousse are to die for! We loved this place and will definitely be back!!
Outstanding food, pleasant atmosphere, great for an intimate conversation.
For some reason, I remember this place being a lot better. I had a burger (which was fair) and my GF had a Caesar Salad that was barely passable. The dressing was just mayonnaise, and had no flavor and it was just a pile of kale. Sad because it is such a funky place.
The brunch at Hillside was great! I got the french toast and it was perfectly cooked and filling. I also had the matcha latte, which was a tad small for the price - but good. My dad got the Banger's brunch and loved it. Huge sausage link and fluffy scrambled eggs. He enjoyed adding the YellowBird hot sauce to it for some spice! Great flavors. Very cool ambiance.
Food was very good. Pretty small quaint place. Menu is limited to a few things. But drinks are good.
Enjoyed delicious food with fresh ingredients. Service could use some tweaking. The hostess sat at the bar and conversed with a co-worker while we stood waiting to be seated. Would have preferred if the servers didn't gather at the corner by my table to chat during down time. Couldn't hear our own conversation until they moved on. Our server had no idea what gazpacho was. The restrooms are so dimly lit you can't see your hands in front of you, but it does eliminate too much vanity time in front of the mirror. However, kudos to the kitchen! The food is worth giving this place another try.
Cold water oysters? Check. Malt & Vinegar French fries with aioli? Among the best I’ve had in town.
It took over 10 minutes for the server to greet us and another 5 minutes to get our first round of drinks. They were not busy and several other servers made eye contact and did not even get us water. After getting greeted the overall services was okay, but not up to par for $30 entree. I continue to debate going back to Hillside because of the inconsistent service and food.
Last night was the first time I’ve been to Hillside Farmacy and been disappointed. I’ve been coming for years for different occasions and with different friends — never so much as a hint of anything but wonderful. This time, my short rib was dry and only barely warm, my friend’s steak was not cooked to her request, my other friend’s rye Manhattan was neither... Very odd. I hope this isn’t a new pattern for them.
Away from downtown Austin’s bustle, a genuine bistro feel. The food always consistent.
Great food service and ambiance. Quiet and romantic. Farm fresh
It was great! Not busy at all. Somewhat slow! Service.
It is a super cute location with good cocktails, wonderful Mac & Cheese and desserts. The cheese and Meat Platter was very yummy and everything was fresh!
Great server & delicious food! Loved the roasted chicken. All around good vibes!
A little slow service. Great food!
Ate here on the last Saturday of SXSW. It was surprisingly quiet. The weather was perfect, so we took a table outside. We were on the later side of dining - at 9 pm.
It seems like despite it not being completely filled for seating that perhaps they were understaffed. Took us awhile to have anyone ask for drinks which is noticeable since it's usually the opposite and I'm still scrambling to read through the drink menu by the time the server arrives.
However, our waiter was apologetic and genuine in his apology. I had the fried egg sandwich on GF free which was very yummy. My only comment is the tomato was just a tomato and not fried and green as stated on the menu. It was good none the less. My companion had the Italian Dip which he enjoyed but felt it was odd and preferred a more traditional take. The quality of food was on point.
We had wine and beer with our dinner and split half dozen oysters which were fresh and briny.
The beauty in this place is the décor, utilizing the old pharmacy components and maintaining the history of the building.
Enjoyed the roasted chicken with grains. Healthy clean feeling dish. It was also perfect weather for sitting outside that evening and enjoyed the ambiance of the patio. Place is nicely decorated.
Love the ambiance and authentic food in a neighborhood gem! Great for friends conversations, dates, (yummy brussel sprouts) cool location to support local historical business.
Such a great place! The chef brought us out a sample plate of a item he was going to add to the menu. Great service as well. All in all amazing place.
Cute outdoor seating, great decor and vibe. Great brunch spot!
We had SUCH a nice experience. After being turned down by a few other snooty restaurants in town as we didn't have a Saturday night reservation, we finally found Hillside Farmacy available on OpenTable. I'd dined there for brunch and lunch before but not for dinner. We were so happy immediately with our choice. It was a warm, welcoming, and vibrant environment with good energy. Their décor is so cool with a vintage feel. They bank on the old Pharmacy feel in an artistic way. The host was amazing. He was friendly and communicative and checked in on us continually through the evening. The food was stellar. We dined on raw oysters, mac and cheese, roasted Brussel sprouts, and an incredible burger with added bacon and cheese. Oh and the salt and vinegar fries with aioli were killer. We were pleased that Hillside Farmacy turned our evening around and thank the great staff there!
Loved it. We look forward to our next visit.
Great experience! Well knowledgable staff and good selection of beers. Highly recommend stopping in for half-off oyster Mondays!
Oysters are awesome. Great selection of small plates!
I loved this restauarant. The food was delicious and the interior design was so good! Creative, fun and good meal!
In town from Denver and definitely worth a trip for sure! Food was fabulous!
The restaurant has a musty, damp smell. The water glasses had a bad taste, almost greasy like it had not been thoroughly washed or washed at all.
Both my husband and I were disappointed as we expected fresh farm to table. We were both sick the following day and could not eat anything until later at night when our stomachs calmed down.
I would not recommend this restaurant.
We had a good time here for our usual Tuesday date night. The service was a little slow, but the employees were all very nice and professional. We had the macaroni to start with (delicious), and then the linguine (tasted like an average spaghetti), oysters (awesome), brussles sprouts (also awesome) for our entree.
Atmosphere was great and the drinks mixed with the house-made soda were awesome!
This wouldn't be on the top of my list to go back and try again, but we still had a very enjoyable time.
This was the best meal I have had in Austin since moving here two years ago. The general manager, chef, bartender, and server all made the dining experience fun, unique, and memorable.
I had friends visiting from out of town and they were blown away by how kind the staff was and how delicious the food was. As someone with severe food restrictions, I often feel like a burden at restaurants, but at Hillside Farmacy, I felt respected and like it was no big deal. They reviewed the reservation notes with care and were ready to share all of my options (of which there were several!). Much appreciated. I will definitely be back!
We loved the decor and ambiance. Food was creative and good. The service was attentive but not intrusive. Parking is plentiful. We will put Farmacy on the list of our regulars.
Everything was absolutely outstanding! We really enjoyed it.
really enjoyable evening, friendly staff, food was very good and ample portions
Menú is not as good as it used to be. The desserts were bland.
