After making a reservation on open table, receiving reservation reminder emails, we arrive the morning of our reservation only to find they are closed for the Holiday??
The atmosphere was superb along with the cuisine! Our waiter, Justin, was phenomenal! He was very knowledgeable about the menu and was quick serving us whenever we needed anything. The rest of the staff was very friendly as well.
This was out first trip to Hillbilly Tea since it relocated. We'd eaten at the previous location a few times and always enjoyed it. Arriving around 7:00 PM on a Saturday, we found the room almost empty. We were seated quickly and our server told us that they were out of a couple of items. We asked a question about one of the drinks and he got the bar manager (same person who seated us). She was able to answer a question so we ordered drinks before looking over the menu. When we were ready to order, we were told another item was not available and also learned that one item contained an ingredient that we'd already asked about (a potential allergy issue for one of us). This left us with few options for food, so we decided just to have our drinks and then go elsewhere. A few more minutes went by with no drinks so we asked about them and were told that they hadn't started making them yet - a good 20 minutes after we arrived and at least 10 minutes after we ordered them. Remember, the room was almost empty so there couldn't have been much of a rush. Ultimately we decided to just leave without our drinks.
I later looked at reviews on Open Table and saw others with similar experiences. I don't know what's happened to Hillbilly Tea, but I don't think we'll be back.
Great food and service. Very nice drink menu. Wish we didn't live out of state, we'd be there more often.
Literally everything we ordered was fabulous - cheese plank catfish steak broccoli and potatoes. Amazing extensive bar menu! Great ambiance - rustic quirky fun. Would definitely return. Have the corn pone too

Great food....great for brunch.
The food was obnoxiously bland. I ordered the Eggs, Biscuits, and Gravy with bacon. They charged me an extra 3$ for the bacon and it was only a half piece. The gravy was watered down with no flavor. The biscuits were thick cardboard and only tasted of baking soda. It was a very, very disappointing experience and I am so angry that we had spent an absorbent amount of money on this food. Also, they give you watered down honey for your tea.

This was recommended to us by several friends; we FINALLY had an opportunity to come on Sunday, October 9 for your brunch. The food was delicious (I had the fried catfish & grits; my wife had the Hillbilly Tea Scramble). We also ordered a side of corn pone and smoked bacon. The coffee and iced tea were both excellent. Service was OUTSTANDING. We are looking forward to our next visit and will try to come when we can order off the regular menu. Thank you for an outstanding experience! The ambiance was incredible so the fact that it took 20 minutes to get 2 drinks and a can of beer was a poor start, particularly on a slow night. The food was good however my meatloaf arrived luke warm instead of hot which made it less appealing. The corn pone was great however. IF they do not fix the service issues, they will not last.
Tried to stop in for brunch and was told, at 10 am when it opens, that the wait would be 30 minutes because we didn't have reservations for the empty restaurant. So a couple weeks later, with reservations, I tried again. The food was mediocre with respect to other nearby options in the same price range. The "handpoured" coffee was $4 for a mug and another $4 for a second cup. I do not see myself returning.
Food was great: fresh and unusual flavors. Had chicken and corn pone with great smokey flavor, topped with a red cabbage chow chow. The salad with greens and flowers was gorgeous but needed salt and pepper--easily remedied. We got sides of sweet potatoes and succotash that were fabulous. My husband also had a chicken salad with smoked grapes that was delicious. It's a quiet place, large and sparsely decorated with Appalachian junk: old tools, wash tubs, old kerosene lanterns, etc. drinks come in Mason jars, napkins are dish rags pinned with clothes pins. I hope they can survive because it's super cute and the food is great. The staff is really devoted to the place and it shows ! Give it a try!!!

Lovely little place. Enjoyed the decor and ambience. They seemed short staffed as they had no one at the door to greet or seat guests or enough servers to handle 3 rather large sections of the establishment. Bartender was taking care of her guests and manning the host stand. Very gracious and polite with what she was handling. Our server was friendly and greeted us in a timely manner. The issue was the length of time between ordering and receiving our food. The food was delicious but took close to 40 minutes . There was a shorter gentleman with glasses and an iPad running around doing much of nothing and not helping out his service staff. Place has a lot of potential but needs serious discipline and proper labor distribution to handle a mediocrely busy Saturday brunch.
We were confused at why the appetizer gave 5 crawdad fritters (delicious,by the way) when an even number makes more sense for an appetizer
Was out of several things we tried to order. Asked for salad dressing on side , came on it. Asked to not be served potatoes ,offered to substitute double veggies, still came with potatoes and one serving veggies. Needs some fine tuning......would have came another time but hours on door is wrong says only open Fri-Sun, found out not the case????
Made a reservation on open table for noon on Sunday. Was seated @ time., but waited 45 min before getting waited on. There was a wedding party going on! When we finally got waited on, Taylor was very nice!
Mains were served on cold plates and were quite tepid. We asked that they be reheated / microwaved but the staff insisted on starting anew. They knew we had a theater deadline but the meals only arrived -- after some prompts -- about the time we wanted to be out of the restaurant. We ate hurriedly and the bills were comped in their entirety but I'd rather have had hot food served in a timely way than a freebie. The menu is interesting and well-executed and service was fine, but the dining event in total was wretched.
The new location is beautifully decorated, friendly environment and wonderful foods.
Services are wonderful and will come back again.
At first we were a little nervous the reviews weren't fantastic and then we walked in on a Friday night and there wasn't anyone else in there. So naturally we were thinking the absolute worst but to out surprise the food was FANTASTIC! There were three of us eating and all three entrees were amazing and with a picky 9 year old eater it was fabulous we will definitely be back
the decor really fits the theme of the restaurant and the moonshine cocktails are amazing!!

The food was good--but being seated under the deck/stairs does not really add anything to the dining experience--especially when there are plenty of tables in the open dining room. Check was a little messed up and did not catch it until too late. Food was good--especially potatoes and lamb.
Hillbilly Tea has a great drink menu(book). Some of the drinks made with tea, but most with bourbons and other liquor . I had the fish cakes with broccoli and a very good potato casserole. Very good. I forget the type of fis but it was not your normal cod or whitefish. My wife had a pork on a pone ( a southern bread like base)
Service was very good.
Incredible farm to table food right in the heart of downtown (Main Street) Louisville. Very rustic chic, with thoughtful details. The beautifully renovated building sets the tone for any meal. A MUST!
For Sunday brunch they were out of not one, but 2 of the things we ordered. At best mediocre. Won't be back.
I give accurate review because hen arrived was told they had sold out of everything was only serving dessert, coffee, the bar open. We had to find another dining location. I was very disappointed that I wasn't informed prior to my arrival.
This was our first time visiting Hillbilly Tea in their new location. It was great - convenient parking in downtown Louisville and nestled right into the heart of the restaurant scene within walking distance of the river. The food was an excellent blend of farm-to-table, Appalachian, foodie- fare. I had the open faced lamb burger on a biscuit and my husband had the eggs, biscuits and gravy with sausage. Paired with a couple of tea-inspired cocktails and we had an amazing brunch! I can easily say we'd recommend to friends because we've been doing so non-stop for four years.
Service was bad. Sausage was undercooked. Bad experience all around
Fun place but service was "gawd-awful". Drinks didn't arrive until a good 30 minutes after we were seated. Every order was wrong. Had to go find our own silverware. Never refilled water. No itemized receipt. No recommendation here!

We had reservations and still had to wait an hour to get a table. The table they sat us at - finally - had been open the whole time. It took us another 15 minutes to be waiting on. We finally asked another waitress. The food was not very good. Our pancakes were burnt and the bacon was raw. I will not be going back.
Food was awesome, but the wait time from the kitchen was horrible.

Took two hours to be served brunch. Only ordered eggs. Really disappointing.
Had a 2pm brunch reservation for 3. There were only about 10 other patrons in the restaurant and first thing I noticed was the music was too loud for that time of day. Service was friendly but that's where it ended for us. The pancake was charred, the biscuits in the gravy were also very well done almost burnt had they been on the griddle any longer and the stale bread and fresh fruit that was supposed to come with the cheese platter was previously toasted that came cold from the fridge and a sad bunch of soggy grapes. Save yourself $50 and get your tea and pancakes from le'Mickey D's.
