The appetizer and entree’s were excellent. This was our anniversary and we got engaged here 28 years ago, so I was also looking forward to having a special dessert. When I made reservations, I told them about my food allergies. So, when I went to get dessert, I was shocked that EVERY dessert except ice cream or sorbet had some form of NUTS in them. I started to ask waiter for one of their desserts simplified. Before I could finish my request, I got a very firm NO, “we cannot do ANYTHING” , “Our pastry chef is not here!”. What I was requesting did not in any way need a pastry chef! It needed caramelized bananas (which they had already for another dessert), Vanilla ice cream, and caramel drizzle. Again, a simple dessert with NO nuts, or a need for a pastry chef! VERY DISAPPOINTED! We left without any dessert. For such an upscale restaurant, this was unacceptable! Also, in this day and age with so many people allergic to NUTS, why would you not offer desserts made without NUTS that are at the same standards as the desserts made with nuts?!
Beautiful restaurant in a gorgeous park-like setting. Our waiter was great and very attentive. The only thing is the food was just average to meh. I wanted it to be great or at least very good!
Wish they would up their food game and this could be just an outstanding spot for many occasions.
While the view and service quality is undeniably first rate, the food was just fair. The skirt steak was described in the menu as coming with chimichuri, but instead had a brown sauce. The pasta of the day was described as coming with salty spring vegetables and a clam sauce. The vegetables were peas and Lima beans. The clam sauce appeared to be melted butter, with no taste of or pieces of clam. Bland. Cocktails were good!
Our server Owen was wonderful! He went out of his way to make my daughters graduation celebration very special.
The food was fabulous and aside from the fog that obstructed the phenomenal view of NYC, the dining experience was perfect.
Always a fantastic time!!! Great food and service!!
We came here on a date for the first time.
Great food and friendly service all around.
The restaurant is very beautiful but the food was only average. The menu choices are limited and the portions are small.
Love the view to the city - service is attentive but not intrusive - really spot on...The pureed vegetable soup was excellent as was the flavor of the lobster salad which we both had...nice pour of wine...loses a couple of points because the portion size for the lobster roll for the price was small although beautifully presented...sides were fine but nothing special...wish we would have had more time for desert - they look amazing and would undoubtedly have boosted my score...I only make it here occasionally but enjoy the experience every time....
You come hear for the view. The food is good also, but you can find better. It is all about the ambiance here. Only complaint was it was a bit louder than I remember it from a few years back.
After a long hiatus, we returned to the Highlawn Pavilion and we were not disappointed. The beautiful view there is complimented by well-crafted cocktails and delicious food. We started with a beet salad and the salad du jour followed by seafood selections that were excellent, namely, the halibut and char. Service was attentive but not rushed. I would recommend the Highlawn and will definitely be back in a shorter interval than the previous.
Always a great experience. One of NJ finest.
I had dinner here for my birthday and my roommate was impressed with my choice. The view cannot be captured by pictures. You have to see this in person; it was way more breathtaking than I expected. The kitchen was open later than advertised and the service was great. My dining experience here was memorable and I would definitely eat there again. The ambiance matches the price.
Great food n incredible views
We had a business meal with 9 people and the food and service were great. The waiter did not rush us and the view of NY skyline is fantastic. It was good for conversation among a larger group. The main issue we had was the air conditioning was not working well, so by the time we got to dinner, it was very warm and uncomfortable.
We are not regulars, but have dined with you often over years. The evening was, as in the past, a rewarding experience. Our table was a party of seven celebrating two birthdays. Pavilion was chosen in order to repeat past pleasures. Success.
One event presented an inappropriate decision on your part. Approximately mid meal a table of four was seated immediately next to our party. Their appearance could not be ignored. Two of the young men were dressed in disheveled T-shirts, a third in a zip front 'Hoodie'. Granted, this is a new century and the purview of a particularly sad generation of Millennials. I do not excuse their challenge to good taste, nor the lack of their possibly giving a damn for elementary social choices. You would do yourselves proud to consider some slight, easily achievable dress code for dinning. The Bar, of course, could be treated as a separate casual entity.
a little pricey, but good food. the crowd is more seniors over 60 than you would expect, but that was okay. Waiter could be a bit friendlier. Desserts look great, but do not bother.
fabulous view of NYC if they do not put you next to a wall.
Nice music in the bar, especially if there is no reserved event, jazz makes it romantic. This night no Jazz just a piano.
This was a celebration of two birthdays and everything went very smoothly.
Food and service were terrific but the noise levels were higher than expected.
Still and all even our discriminating ten years old granddaughter enjoyed the experience
One disappointing thing was that the fog rolled in obscuring the view of the NYC skyline
Went primarily to see the Rick Crane trio play. Enjoyed the evening enormously. The food was superb and the staff outstanding. I would happily recommend Highlawn Pavilion to a friend.
The food was so expensive unbelievable. A little bit of food charging a lot. Won t go back
Excellent food and service. Amazing view of NYC!
We went back for our anniversary. We always have a great time here. The food is superb, the service is exceptional, and the view is unsurpassed. Make sure you bring your wallet because all this glory comes at a steep price, but we really enjoy ourselves when we go here.
Service was excellent and food was tasty and presented well. My only concern was that our meals were not hot. Each one of us in our party felt the same way. At that point no one wanted to send five meals back. All in all it was a nice experience.
Hadn't been here for 5 or more years, so was nice to be back and see that it hasn't changed all that much, although I seem to remember being given olives at the bar, along with drinks. We met early enough to have a drink at the bar, prior to being seated. We were in the middle row of tables, so could easily see the view out the windows and watches as the sky darkened and all the lights came on until you could faintly see NYC through the haze.
Appetizers were good - I had the rock shrimp and spring veg risotto, two had the tuna tartar, one the French onion soup and last person had the special soup, which was good, but so rich she couldn't finish the portion. Dinners - two beef, I had the halibut (yum), one had the Hake special, which had a cartelige or something in the middle that caused it to curl up and she couldn't easily eat it. Forget the last entrée. Two of us ended up with the ice cream sundae - decadent - which was enough to split with our spouses. We also had two bottles of wine, one of which was a new label to us and excellent. Not cheap, but a very enjoyable evening.
The staff is wonderful. The food is great tasting I would recommend to friends
We've been there numerous times but this visit was disappointing. The matre de was uninterested in our needs. The Halibut dame to the table naked. The deep fried kale was over salted and inedible. Our waiter was very attentive but very rushed because he had too many tables. I'll think again before returning.
Been here multiple times. They try to be a very upscale experience. But they are deteriorating. Food was ok not up to the price. They also tout a dress code jackets for men. But in a Friday night there were quite a number of men in backward baseball caps, jeans and sneakers, shorts and tank tops. So what’s the point?
Excellent food n service as always.
Perfect! Thank you for a memorable evening with our daughter. The view, the service, the food, everything was perfect.
I have eaten at the restaurant several times and have never been disappointed. I find the restaurant a very special dining experience.
Outdated decor, overpriced food that isn’t the most appetizing & not even the scenic dining is worth it!
Exceptional restaurant. Been here scores of times - always GREAT! Keep up the outstanding food and service. Superb view of the NYC skyline.
As always, we had excellent service, excellent food and a seat by the window for amazing views . Unfortunately it was foggy that evening :(
We wish however that there were more wines to choose from for less than $100.
Love the 5 star view!
The Highlawn is a beautiful restaurant with one of the MOST Scenic Views of NY skyline I have ever seen...I was married here several years ago, so this occasion was for my wifes' birthday... I have only one minor complaint in that i would like to see heartier meals served at Highlawn as compared to the prices...No complaints but for the prices being charged, i was expecting just a little more of a heartier meal for the $$
We had a wonderful night. The food was delicious and our server was great.
We were a party of 10. It took 3 hours to eat dinner. The kitchen was very slow
Dinner out for my mom’s last night in town
We found the food to be lacking in flavor although presented artfully. The view and the service was excellent but if you’re looking for a delicious meal I would recommend elsewhere. Not worth the price.
Wonderful birthday luncheon for my best friend. Highlawn is still my favorite celebration restaurant.
The service ,food presentation And ambiance were superb
