The meal and the service were impeccable. I would return again.
Had a wonderful birthday dining experience at the HP last night. Our server recommended the seafood tower from the bar menu to feed five of the nine at the table. It was outstanding with crab legs, lump crabmeat, half lobster tail, oysters and clams on the half and some colosall shrimp. Dinners consisted of a perfectly cooked, fork tender filet. Salmon, chicken, scallops. Everyone reported a perfect portion, quite tasty and nice sides. Dessert was a custom chocolate cake. Cappuccino could have used more foam, even some foam would have been good, they were more like lattes. Overall a great dinner with a terrific view of the NYC skyline. I did feel for the price and reputation that we could have had slightly better attention paid to the table.
Amazing restaurant in a great location with spectacular views of the city. The ambiance, food and service were GREAT!
I had not been to the High Lawn in a couple of years as my last experience was not terrific. This time, however, I was extremely impressed. The service was impeccable, the view was amazing and the food was exceptional. I even commented to the maître d when leaving and he shared that they have a new chef....I told him I would be back. It is expensive but I do not mind paying when the food is good and this was very good...from the shrimp cocktail appetizers to the filet mignon and of course, dessert!
Beautiful room. amazing views. Good food. Great ambiance
Asked for table window on open table, called restaurant and asked for window table, asked host at restaurant when we got there for window table he said no, and for 3 hours the table sat empty. And I frequent the place very often. Not happy
Excellent dining experience! Great food, beautiful view, even on a rainy night. Excellent service.
We had a lovely dinner with friends and enjoyed every minute! The service was spot-on; very attentive, but not hovering. I began with the "Samples from the Sea" appetizer, and it was fantastic! Plenty for 2 people. My husband and one of our friends had the bibb lettuce and field greens salad, the other friend had the spinach salad, all were enjoyed. For the main course, I had a Wagyu steak special that was indescribably delicious! Like, incredible flavor and melt in my mouth tender. My husband had another steak and our friends had cod and salmon. Everyone really loved their food! It is a beautiful location and always feels like a special occasion when you're there. We will definitely return and we will certainly recommend to others.
Great for any Sit down dinner or a bite at the Bar
Went for date night, it was quiet enough for nice conversation, the staff were lovely, the food was delicious, and I loved the historic building.
Everything was great. The food was very good, a bit prices for the small portions, but I guess you get more for the view and the atmosphere
Consistently great food and service - have NEVER been disappointed dining here.
My wife and I have enjoyed dining at the Highlawn Pavilion many times and it was good to return recently. It offers a wonderful combination of elegance and warmth, making for a relaxed atmosphere in which to enjoy outstanding food. I'm not a fan of squash soup, but the Butternut and Kabocha Squash soup at the Highlawn was excellent...very tasty but not too sweet. The Norweigan Salmon was done to perfection and the vegies weren't overcooked. If you're inclined to splurge, the Chocolate Fudge Sundae is hard to beat and big enough to share. The service, as always, was superb. The outstanding ambiance and wonderful view of the New York skyline in the background make this a wonderful place to enjoy a special occasion.
Great food and service; terrific views of Manhattan and surrounding area. Great for special occasion and big groups; great for people watching; NJ culture with an Italian flair. We eat here often, especially at the bar but will venture into the main dinning room with there are 4 or more of us.
Always a great meal n wonderful time
Always a nice evening and a good meal when we come here.
We had been to HIghlawn before, but this time was different. The menu was limited and there were no daily specials. It was the day after Valentine's day and it seemed that they were tired and trying to get rid of their leftoverrs. The drink (both wine and mixed) prices were greatly inflated making the total cost of dining high and impacting the value of the dining experience. On the positive side, our waiter was attentive and friendly.
I use to truly enjoy going to the Highlawn. The food would always be fantastic and so memorable but the last few times I’ve been here...the food has not been the same.
The servers here have always been great and still are very attentive!!
The meal was obviously expensive but totally worth it!! The steak was cooked perfectly and the seafood was fresh. The head chef was also super nice, professional, and talented. Next time I’m able to save up enough money I’ll definitely be back!
Excellent experience, great food and fantastic views of the Big Apple.
Small portions for the price .. way too expensive than required .. been to too many places with as good food and ambience and yet not so expensive ..
A dampener for our anniversary! Ok we went on a Monday night, but overall a very mixed experience for the price. Considering there were only three other tables (out of over 25) occupied, the service was mediocre- needed to seek out the staff several times. We ordered two glasses of Stags Leap Cab - and had to send them back as they tasted worse than church wine! My venison was quite good, but My wife wasn't happy with the filet mignon - yes, it was tender, but just too pasty - couldn't get the taste of a good meat! And the sundae was just a blob of whipped cream- maybe good for kids, but I would have thought that a restaurant with this kind of reputation would have made at least some attempt to make an artistic presentation. At the end of the day, remember- you are there for the view - which is always spectacular! But food and service need to up their game.
The night view of NYC, as the sun set, was breathtaking while the food was just as exciting and unique, and the ambience was elegantly casual with prompt and courteously fashionable service. the whole experience should not be missed and is a great place to take someone from out of the area to view the wonder of the nighttime "City that never sleeps".
I have been before. I enjoyed my meal but the portion of brussel sprouts and potatoes was almost non existent
Hard to beat. Drove 35 minutes out of my way just for lunch and just for the Highlawn Pavilion.
We had heard about the views at High Lawn Pavilion and always wanted to visit. We finally found a reason--our Christmas gift to each other. The experience was spectacular. From the friendly and knowledgeable waitstaff to the delicious cuisine, only to be topped by the best view of New York City from Jersey we've ever seen. The venison and filet were expertly prepared and the fudge sundae was creatively presented and very scrumptious. We're looking forward to returning to experience outside dining and exploring the cocktail offerings at the bar!
Lovely evening at the Highlawn Pavilion! Very attentive service and excellent seafood and other selections. We enjoyed the salmon and se bass that we cooked to perfection. The view is spectacular.
The lovely evening was shattered when the host of my birthday dinner was asked by our waiter (with pad and pen in hand) to provide his pin number to pay with his bank card. Have you ever???? How insidious!!!!!
The place is beautiful, can’t beat the scenic view of the NYC skyline. Very disappointed with the dinner. Salad had no taste at all. Minion was very tender but not great tasting. Vegetables were flat. My guests had salmon and they said it was just ok. Nothing special. Very expensive for just ok food.
We were here for my mom's 90th birthday. The restaurant is very elegant and there is a great view of the Manhattan skyline. The service was excellent-very professional, yet friendly. I highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion.
Excellent food and service. The Venison dish was outstanding as was my husband's Fillet Mignon. Perfect Vodka Martinis and Negronis. Well worth the 50+ minutes drive!
1 of my favorite places to dine!!! I’ve been there more then once and will visit again!!
Spectacular view and great seafood with pristine service. Go on a clear night!
Shrimp cocktail really had no flavour... husband steak was not tasty at all... people kept hitting my chair walking by and I couldn’t pull it in any closer to table ... waiters and quest did not even say I am sorry after hitting it... slightly disappointed.
Views are really nice but not really impressed with anything else. We sat down got the menus, ordered a drink and from then on we were asked every 2 minutes if we’re ready to order dinner. I have to tell him that I would call him when I’m ready. Food was unremarkable. Doubt will ever go back. If I drive same distance north/east (live in Union here) I’m in a much better spot wehawken/Englewood lots of choices. I think that’s the problem, other the Manor they have no competition so they’re meh.
Ohhh, another thing: about 2:00pm I got a call from from the restaurant confirming the reservation and to say they strictly enforce the dress code (mens are expected to wear jackets). Well there were plenty of men wearing bottom down shirts , sweaters and there was one with a T-shirt with no jacket on site. Pathetic!
It was after New Year’s Eve. Restaurant was empty yet it took a long time to get our food. we were there for four hours Salads of kale and spinach were wilted and bland, entrees were fine but nothing special, menu choices sparce as compared to last visit, waiter was very nice- have dined here many times but this dining experience missed the mark. However, the view of the city is worth it and I will return.
We have gone to the Highlawn many times. We love the atmosphere and ambience, but think that the food could be varied and upgraded. Other comparable restaurants (for ex, like the Stone House in Warren) do a better job with their food- more interesting, etc. More specifically, your appetizers are quite good (esp shrimp cocktail, excellent). Your entrees are good but not exceptional (fish tends to be good, meats fair- the Fillet Mignon was tender but not very flavorful) and your desserts are overdone and really not appealing. You used to make a wonderful Apple Gallete ( I believe previous chef), and it really hasn't been replaced with anything comparable. Thanks for your request for information. David Miller
Exceptional food, service and view of NYC skyline. Highly recommended.
Great service and great food. We’ll be back!
Absolutely breath taking view, spectacular service and a fabulous menu with one item better than the next. we have been going for years and it has really stepped up to top shelve.
