The view from the terrace was very nice. Spraying for bugs might be considered. I expected more from the food. Every dish needed salt. The paella risotto was watery and lacking any pop of flavor. The lobster and crab salad was flavorless and I had to hunt to find lobster. We wanted the fish special but they ran out. The halibut was delicious with the sauce, but contained ONE cut up fingerling potato. Not sure corn and peas were the right choice for garnish. Especially not for a 42$ dish. The wagyu Reuben had very little beef on it and looked like something from Panera although tasted good. Lastly we ordered 2 glasses of 17$ wine. A quarter of a glass of wine, in any restaurant, is unacceptable. The wine was no more than a 10$ bottle judging by taste. At least fill the glass half way. Our waiter was amazing and took care of us like family. Atmosphere was excellent and very lively. Unfortunately the food was less than expected for a restaurant that is “considered” top 1% in the country.
EXCELLENT SERVICE, EXCELLENT FOOD. WE HAVE NEVER BEEN DISAPPOINTED!
We've eaten at Highlawn Pavilion a number of times. The food is consistently good. The views of New York on a clear day are great! The service is very nice. All in all, a very pleasant dining experience.
We were married there and had our reception there 24 years ago, and go back 2-3 times a year and never have been disappointed.
Highlawn Pavilion is a real jewel. Very elegant and excellent ambiance.
Celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary and it was an outstanding evening.
From the valet guys who were polite and very quick to our waiter Guillermo who was outstanding.
My hats off to the chef and his staff our dinner was superb! Thank you.
We’ve been there for special occasions many time over the last several year. The food and service are always top notch. My only disappointment is that, contrary to previous visits, the clientele seemed to have gotten more casual. I seem to recall, patrons would dress as if they were out to a special place in the past. Btw, our waiter, Owen was great.
The best lamb chops my wife ever had. The filet melted in your mouth. Oysters were amazing.
Very good service and the ambiance is great. I requested a seat by the window and they gave us a table overlooking the Manhattan skyline on a gorgeous night.
Very good food and chef accommodated our dietary needs
Did not like the sitting area provided. Felt like get to the back of the bus. Wanted to showcase the restaurant for its great view but was denied this. The sitting marginalized the view.
Wonderful experience..., dining on the patio was a special treat.
Appetizer portions were small because they were so good that we wanted more! Staff was very attentive, accommodating and friendly.
Great service, food was just ok.
Have not been here in a while. I thought the food was mediocre and just average. The facility was not very clean, they have valances on the windows overlooking the NyC skyline and the dust was thick on them.
It seems the attraction is simply the view. I think there are better choices and if you want a view of NYC the reservation is free to visit and the views from outside are spectacular and free. Disappointing experience
Never disappointed when we dine here, the food and presentation, the view, the service (Carlos) is consistently wonderful.
My wife and I went for dinner after hearing all the amazing reviews. The appetizers, entrees, and dessert were amazing including all of the waiters and waitresses
My husband and I enjoyed our food and the wine, 2 glasses of sauvignon blanc, was great. My husband had what I called a "Flintstone-sized" steak, and I had chicken served with a corn puree, corn kernels served over a brown sauce and a piece of bacon. My dish was very light and tasty. I also had a cup of Italian International Coffee, which was delicious, and for dessert, we had peach cobbler crumble served with a vanilla ice cream. Because it was our anniversary, the restaurant put a candle in our ice cream. Service was also amazing, our two servers, Carlos and Chedar, were on point with the service, making sure that we were enjoying our dinner and serving us well.
The view was spectacular! The service was very good, but the quality of the filet of beef was sub par.
It was cooked to our request, but I would have expected the meat to be Choice or Prime
To celebrate my birthday, we decided to have lunch at the Fairlawn Pavillion. We were very pleased with the service, the wine and beautiful, excellent tasting entrees and desserts. And the view can't be better. It was our first visit and we expect to go back to celebrate other milestones, or just to have a good time.
I dined here several times the past month. Twice to celebrate a special occasion.
Unfortunately the lunch I had with 4 friends had absolutely the smallest portion I have ever seen. 3 of us had lobster rolls. 1 small bun appeared with very little lobster on it
The second reservation was using a points reward card from open table. The very arrogant matter d adamantly told me they don’t accept these. It took a male at our table to go and discuss it with him before he conceded
I called the manager twice to discuss and he never returned my calls
For a special restaurant (it’s beautiful) I had 2 unfortunate and disappointing experiences. They need to get their food and attitude back to being a restaurant of distinction
Consistently great food with a view of the Manhattan skyline second to none. Highly recommend, especially for a special occasion.
Pavilion is a place that you go to should experience an amazing dinner or go to if you have a special occasion. The service is impeccable with staff there is very attentive during my meal I think my water glass was filled maybe 15 times I never got to the bottom of it. The food came out hot and quickly wait times were under 10 minutes for our appetizer. The taste of the food was incredible if you look at the 5th picture that was my steak a 16 oz sirloin served with some root vegetables and some sauteed onions it was phenomenal one of the best steaks I've ever had. It was seared perfectly cooked to perfection not too much salt and not overly peppered either worth every penny that we paid. For my fiance she had soft shell crabs which are hard to get anywhere this late in the season phenomenal seasoning on them and they were very fresh. I highly recommend this place if it is somewhere that you want to take somebody special or just go to have a nice dinner PS definitely wear something nice people usually dress pretty well when they go here.
My wife had the soft shell crab special and said they were among the best she ever had...I had a deconstructed wedge salad with salmon-terrific presentation and egg cooked perfectly-overeasy to add to the creaminess of the dish so no need for extra dressing...always love the view and the servers meet European standards...pricey but always enjoyable and an unusual experience
Came to Highlawn Pavillion Tuesday July 30th around 7:00pm for dinner with 2 people whom work for me. Restaurant was surprisingly buzzing for a Tuesday night in NJ , no where near max capacity, but the environment and ambiance seemed to be moving efficiently as if they were fully booked which is a huge plus and a big indicator of a properly ran restaurant.
Host gave us a great seat. Wine recommendations were ideal (we had two bottles both priced around $70 - one cab/franc, 1 super Tuscan). Wait staff was professional, knowledgeable, put together and very kind/helpful. For apps we had oysters, which were amazing, beet salad was exceptional and burrata also very good and nicely plated. Dinners were also a 10. Buccatini dish and salmon dish. Sambucca (with the 3 beans which is a score!) to end the night. Bill was $311.00 pre-tip which is priced well for multiple entrees, multiple apps, 2 bottles, coffee and after dinner drinks. Highly recommended.
i had not been to this restaurant in years....I remember when it opened around 1987 and I was taken when I was 15 years old....I don't think they have changed a THING since then....it's old and needs a facelift!
the food was very good! I really enjoyed the chilled seafood and my pork chop was delicious and cooked perfectively....BUT! they need to clean it up....and they profess business attire and jackets for men and I actually saw a man exit wearing jeans and a baseball cap!
When we pulled up....the 2 valet attendants looked busy on their phones....
so....my recommend is that this stale one time favorite hot spot spend some money and spruce the joint up from the mid 80's~~
This place is just perfect. They do everything so well!! Prettiest spot in north NJ.
Fantastic vista. Enjoyed every signle moment of my special day.
Want to thank Kahtleen, our waitress, she did outstanding.
The view can comparsate any disappointment bit when you pay 50$ a main course you must pretende that the waiter has take a shower before coming to work ..otherwise he will killer both your taste and the ambiance. Stuck with this dress code that is inconsistent with everything before and after the place, has a good quality of food and wine list. Unique for its position will continue to be successful even after my review..but it will never be cool as they dream..too much fane'..old...lack of progressive touch..enjoy
Perfect dining experience and excellent service!
One of my all time favorite restaurants! Keep up the grand work. Mino
Many restaurants rely on scenic views to compensate for substandard culinary experiences and over-inflated prices. That is definitely NOT the case with Highlawn Pavilion! Most of their window side tables offer panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline which, although the sun was still out when we were there, I imagine must look even more spectacular lit up at night. Since it was our first visit, I'm not sure if their specials are always so delightfully savory - but the venison special was exceptional. Our meals were plated simply but visually appealing. By the way, some of the dinner rolls were wonderfully laced with rosemary and well worth the carbs. Their wine list is a little on the spartan side, but we were still able to find good compliments to our meal. Finally, we went there to celebrate our anniversary and expected to drop a hefty chunk of change - only to be pleasantly surprised by a more than reasonable check. Thanks, HIghlawn Pavilion - we won't wait for a special occasion to come back!
Since it had a dress code, I thought the place would be fancier than it was. I was surprised to see people there in polo shirts. We had an early reservation and maybe it’s different later in the evening.
Great food and service. Waiters were very personable.
We were there for a small birthday party, just five of us. We had a drink at the bar before we went to get seated.
The server was attentive, the food was delicious, and the dessert was wonderful. My friend said the rack of lamb was the best he ever had.
But the salad portion was very small, especially the roast beet salad.
Very good food, fresh, creative and tasty except for only one appetizer on special that night which was the seared blue fin tuna my mom ordered which unfortunately wasn’t fresh or good we all enjoyed our meal, wait staff and ambiance, thank you for a nice meal and experience.
Food was excellent and the service impeccable. In addition your view is spectacular.
The view is beautiful. The food is tasty and preparation is interesting. Service is old school proper. No replies like "no problem" when "your welcome" is appropriate. No addressing the table as "you guys".
Had a wonderful time celebrating me and my wife's one year anniversary. The only set back at the Highlawn Pavilion is the weddings or parties going on upsatirs. It was quite loud and a place like that where you are dropping good $$ to dine, you most likely don't want to hear loud music above you. Other than that it's one of my favorite places in North Jersey.
