My husband and I enjoyed a drink at the spectacular bar before sitting down for dinner. The views at both bar and table were stunning. We both ordered Cotuit oysters followed by the branzino which was cooked to perfection. Our only complaint was the very pricey wine list.
The ambiance and scenery is one of the best in New Jersey.
food needs more attention ,
my wife noticed chef used canned baby corn in her Asian inspired cod dish.
Not a touch of class, chef!
Excellent food, view, and entertainment in the bar area!
highly overrated. fabulous dining room and a great view, but the food is mediocre at best (except for deserts).
The menu basically never changes, same as it was 15 years ago, 10 years ago..and last year.
Excellent service, but ...
Food was fantastic and service was impeccable!
Always a delight dining at the highlawn. The building is overdue for a renovation.
Amazing views and service! Great for celebrating and dates
Strange to have such loud message audible in the dining room
Entrance could use an upgrade
It was such a great experience! Great views and the food was good too! What made the experience was the atmosphere and the service.
Used to be top notch food, service. Not so anymore. Food was just ok and super expensive. Service also just ok. I expect much more for the prices they charge.
My daughter’s 18th birthday. Lovely setting, terrific meal and wonderful, cordial service.
Very courteous, friendly staff. Food is very good. The decor is a little outdated, but the view of NYC more than makes up for it
Excellent place for a business dinner! View of city is fantastic, service is wonderful, food presentation and quality are superb! Highly recommend for business or for special occasion.
It was our first date and our first time here. The food, service and venue was all top shelf and overall great! I look forward to coming back again soon.
We have been to Highlawn Pavilion many times even hosting our two daughter's graduation celebration dinners there. Our meal Friday night was the best meal I have ever had there. The new veal chop is amazing. The service is friendly, courteous, informative and efficient. Thanks to Lucas and the guys that were working with him for their caring service and Lucas' recommendations. How could you turn down amazing food, great and kindly service and a beautiful view of Manhattan?
Great area for special occasions and great view. Took special person for their birthdays.
Wonderful evening. We went to celebrate a friends birthday and it was perfect. We sat at the bar and had drinks first and everyone was very welcoming and friendly. Then we sat in the dining room and had a beautiful view of the New York City skyline. The food and service were excellent. We would highly recommend anyone to come and enjoy!
Always consistently good. The best restaurant in the area.
Steak was good, appetizers and deserts were mediocre. Menu was very limited and they did not have specials on the night we went. For a restaurant of this calibre I expected more.
four or five pieces of octopus for over 20$ is not worth it. on the opposite around 20$ for shrimp cocktail was ok. the cabernet sauvignon was soso. chianti ok. organic chicken was literally just organic chicken with a few pieces of rice and that was it. desserts were amazing and worth the price. So, if you want to have dinner at a nice location with a city view, go for it. the food is tasty and especially the desserts are worth it. but if you want to get more food, in terms of size, for your money, skip it. but that is what high-priced restaurants are about. pay more-get less -:)
We had an amazing time. The view, the service, the food and wine. It was an amazing evening.
Food was delicious. Would come back as often as we can!
Enjoyed the evening. Band must play at 7 and 9. We had a 6:30 reservation and thought we would be able to listen afterwards. We sat at the bar and figured waiting 'til 9 was better spent back home. Oh well..... next time we will time it better.
Decided to go to the Highlawn Pavillion for Valentines Day as I hadn’t been to the restaurant in quite some time and I remembered it being an overall good experience. Reservations were confirmed and I was reminded of their dress code by the woman who called, which was nice to hear. Some establishments have dress codes but are far more lenient than they should be. I was also told it would be a prix-fixe menu for that day, and what the price was per person.
We arrived and were greeted by the valet, who welcomed us. Our host promptly sat us at a table for two. The tables were close together, but because we had a later reservation, nobody ended up sitting next to us. Our server Bobby was great throughout the meal. I ordered the roasted poblano corn chowder with shrimp and my fiancée had a risotto for the first course. It took longer than expected for the first course to come out, which prompting Bobby to come over and apologize for the wait. Both of us enjoyed our first course, which was probably the best the night would get as far as food is concerned . The second course was a salad, which was nicely appointed. For the main course we both ordered the filet. It was accompanied by a creamy potato and vegetable. Both of us agreed the filet was not up to par. It was cold as if it had been sitting out prior to being brought to our table, and was not as tender as similar cuts from other establishments. Neither of us finished our main course and we were never asked by any staff how our meal was. Our plates were cleared away by a staff member other than our waiter and the net time our waiter came over was for our dessert order. The chocolate moose was very rich and maybe a little too sweet for me, but my fiancée enjoyed it.
Overall, the ambiance ended up being the best part of the outing. The restaurant is gorgeous and the views are second to none (if you have a table near the window). Unfortunately the food just did not live up to the standard it should this time.
I’ve been wanting to go to this restaurant for quite awhile, and thought Valentines Day would be the perfect time. I was right. The restaurant is very impressive, and the views of NY are spectacular. The food and service were perfect, even with a prefixed menu. My wife was very impressed to. I’d love to go back here during the day for lunch or brunch and see the view and the grounds. We will definitely be back.
Didn’t have Malbec on Valentine’s Day. There excuse was they have a lot of things so they run out of a lot of things. I’m a blue collar middle class guy, I don’t go out on this level often. It was a special occasion and my fiancé loves Malbec. Needless to say it was a bummer they didn’t have it. Nor did they offer a similar wine, price reduction, or an apology. The manager was pretentious and treated me poorly. I wouldn’t recommend. The place has a view, the food, you can get anywhere else in Montclair.
They might offer a coat check rather than the armoire in the entry foyer. Leaves people to take coats into dining room where coats then decorate chairs.
The wait staff was competent and attentive.
Highlawn does not disappoint. More diners should respect the dress code. Men should wear jackets and both men and women should leave the jeans at home. It’s not like they don’t remind you when they confirm your reservation. Go, enjoy the food, the ambiance and the view. Wonderful place. We’ll keep coming back.
This is our birthday celebration place for my husband and me. The food is always wonderful and the service is unquestionably some of the best anywhere. The view is always amazing. We brought friends to dine a week ago and they fell in love and will return. We hated that it was too crowded to listen to the jazz ensemble on Friday, but we will make sure we catch it next time. I loved what I heard. Carlos, our server of the evening was most enjoyable.
Always a pleasure at the Highlawn! Food and service are top notch.
Always a fabulous experience - entertained out of town guests.
Beautiful facility with even more beautiful vistas
Beautiful ambiance and views. Outstanding service. The prices are quite steep, but the food is good. This is a great special occasion destination.
Highlawn Pavilion never disappoints. Spectacular view, impeccable service, exquisite food.
Our dinner was great. It was my wife's birthday so I wanted something special, and Highlawn was special. The view? Unmatched. The service? Attentive but unobtrusive. The food? Excellent. The squash soup, the beet salad, the oysters, the filet, the vegetarian entrée - all were top notch. All in all, for a special dinner in NJ, HIghlawn is a great place to go.
Excellent in every way!! Only wish you would be a bit more generous with your wine pour!!
We enjoyed our birthday dinner. The food was very tasty, but subtly spiced. Excellent! The service by Bobby was also excellent. We had a lovely time. Thanks.
We had reservations, but my wife decided she wanted to eat at the bar. No problem with the restaurant. Bar service was great. They had a jazz trio, they were good, just a tad loud. Only issue was dress code said 'no jeans'...so I didn't wear jeans... we walked in and the 1st guy I saw....was wearing Jean's. Next time I know...
We went for an anniversary lunch and had a great time. Food and service were wonderful.
