(Jazz trios on Friday evenings and a pianist on Saturday evenings)
We go once or twice a year. Always on our anniversary. We were married at High Lawn 23 years ago. The food has always been top notch.
We have always enjoyed this restaurant. I particularly appreciate the formality (jackets for men etc). A great spot.
We've eaten here a number of times. It is a great place for special occasions and the food is good. The service tonight was horrible. In our opinion it doesn't live up to the prices they charge.
The scenic view is fantastic. The service was excellent, the waiters were very pleasant and the food was great. We go several times a year and we have an enjoyable time.
We had a delicious meal and a beautiful view of the NYC skyline.
Beautiful location, view and atmosphere. The food is very creative, but somewhat on the bland side and small portions. Overall, worth the trip. $$. Service was as expected.
It is one of our favorite and best restaurants in the area. The food is amazing every time! Would recommend to everyone.
Had a very nice experience. Very satisfied with the food and service by Tom.
were given a 5 pm reservation. Got there at 4:45. they were having a meeting and we were asked to sit at the bar. Meeting finished and eventually we were guided to a table of 4 . We told the hostess we were 10 ( had told her before), she looked flustered , looked at reservations and guided us to " our table" , after we sat we were told it was an error that was not our table , then were moved to the opposite end. Rest of the meal was uneventful the staff was very good.
I’ve been there several times and this was my best visit. It may have been because we arrived unusually early on a Friday and the place was half full. The service was excellent (and, honestly, I don’t recall the last time I wrote that in a review), the food was very good, with a novel synthesis of ingredients that is rare in such a traditional restaurant, and the ambiance was quiet at the outset. By the time we departed at about 8.30, however, it was really very loud with a band playing jazz. So, pick your reservation time with that in mind. The menu is reasonably priced, although wine by the glass is pricey for West Orange (on average $ 14-16 a glass). Expect three courses and a glass of wine to cost approaching $100 a head. Not bad for what you get but for most people that makes it a place for a special occasion unless a business is paying. Nice bar, fabulous view of Manhattan.
Good food with good view. Loved the experience
My husband and I went to High Lawn Pavillion to celebrate our first anniversary and we were very disappointed with our overall experience. From the start the maitre ‘d was very rude. My husband had shorts on and he told us we could not sit in the main dining room, which was no problem he had pants in the car and changed. Upon returning he was still very unfriendly. We were sat where the AC was blasting and I was very cold so we asked to be moved. He said it was fine but did not show us or help us to a new table. Our waiter seemed very busy. He was nice but we were not given much attention. The app was delicious but our entrees took forever to come out and when they did they were cold. My husband had to ask for his to be warmed up. I just ate mine lukewarm. It was a very expensive dinner and I have experience working at a high end restaurant. This was not the experience I expected from a place with such a reputation.
Watching Manhattan change from day to night was magical! The food was well prepared to our requests. The duck and pork chops were delicious. Dessert was sinfully satisfying.
My wife was very pleasantly surprised by both the setting and food. Once the fog lifted, she got the full effect of the view.
My girlfriend was leaving on vacation the day after we had lunch here. And this spot was perfect. Beautiful view, great service , awesome ambiance to be in. Carlos is a magnificent waiter & very friendly as well. We’ll definitely come back to try out more dishes and have a great time
We chose the Pavilion for a relaxing Sunday to settle in after a European
vacation . That was Just what we got !!! Perfect ambiance , deliciously prepared
appys, salads and main courses .. But not before a few glasses of Moet and Martini's
We expect our next visit will be exactly the same !!!
We frequent the Highlawn whenever we want a relaxing high quality meal with a refined wait staff, considerate chef (my wife has food allergies) and a gorgeous view of NYC off in the distance. You do pay for it though! As a Scotch drinker, I appreciate that they have a large varied selection. I loved the Laphroaig Lore at $16 as a great drink to sip throughout the evening.
Beautiful location, excellent service and food. We took our daughter there for her birthday and Highlawn Pavillion made it a special occasion. Bring your wallet though- it is not cheap.....
Great restaurant. Beautiful view of Manhattan 20 miles away. We have been there many times and have not been disappointed. The menu has changed a little and I had two of the best dishes I have ever had there, the citrus crab salad appetizer and the duck breast and foie gras duo entree. The place was crowded and a little too loud. The dishes are not perfectly described on the menu. A member of our party does not enjoy peas and peas were not listed as an ingredient in her pasta entree and she spent a good deal of time picking the peas out. But, otherwise a great dining experience.
Went for special occasion. Food drinks And service were very good. Missed desert and waiter was disappointed
Would return but a bit pricy
It’s hard to beat the Highlawn Pavilion for it’s food, ambiance and scenic view. The wait staff is very attentive and very helpful. Awesome place to go plus a great bar and bar menu if you want a slightly more casual experience.
Fine service prompt & accurate
Clean and kept that way
Our server, Owen, was excellent. He made sure special requests to the chef were honored and wine glass was always filled to perfection.
I have ordered my fillet mignon medium rare and it came out almost well done. I have sent it back and than it came out almost barely warm in the inside. The rest of the guest almost finished their meals before I got mine and I hate to eat alone. I have sent a note to the restaurant which I have not even got a response back. I think a restaurant what they charge for a dinner should do better than that. The view was very nice, but I feel that they should at least acknowledge the complaint.
A bit pricey and limited specials. They need more fish dishes.
Celebrating an anniversary with my wife, certainly a special meal in a special place with special service. Outstanding food and wine, impeccably served.
i got a steak, my girlfriend got the vegetarian meal and we shared the seafood sampler. they were all excellent. the steak is large, the veggie ratatouille is incredible and the seafood sampler includes a crab meat salad that is delicious. the seafood sampler is smaller than you might expect - only two oysters.
Exceptional food and service as always. Great view if the city.
It was the perfect place to celebrate with our daughter and son-in-law our mutual wedding anniversaries. The food was glorious, the service attentive. altogether, the view spectacular. We felt very special.
It was an enjoyable moment and my wife was so happy with that place and the view.
known for the view of the city, this was the second time we were sat between the windows. Scallops and cheesecake are wonderful. Salmon not cooked precisely. lobster appetizer was good.
Good service but needs a bit more polishing
We enjoyed our dinner very much. The host welcomed us warmly, sitting us immediately. Our waiter, Eduardo, was personable, attentive and thoroughly professional. The appetizers (roasted beets, prosciutto with melon) were delicious, the filet mignons were the best we ever tasted, the desserts (lemon cheese cake, pineapple creme brulee) were generous and exceptional. On our departure, the host made it a point to thank us for coming, wishing us a pleasant good evening with a smile. The valet who retrieved our car did so quickly and politely.
Upon our arrival, the young valet who took our car should have said "hello" as he opened my door. His gum chewing didn't add to our experience. The water poured for us tasted like room temperature tap water. My gin and tonic was first rate but came in a large wine glass(?).
fabulous view with excellent food and service. A bit pricey, but as expected given the unique view and quality of food and service. outstanding by-the-glass wine list
Food was excellent dessert not so much cookies boring
Exceptional food and service as we celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary!
Food and view are great Service is low in price is extremely high.
My wife and I celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary at the Highlawn Pavilion. Though we have dined her many times before, the ambience, view, service and dinner were superb. So glad we chose this restaurant for our very special occasion.
Always a treat to experience the HP. This occasion for a High School graduation, and not disappointed in the 1:30pm luncheon for 8. Service and ambience always 5 stars. Food quality very good ( but could have been a bit hotter). Only little asterisk was requesting a “little champagne for all to do a toast to the graduate” but getting 7 full (and full priced) glasses. But a truly great experience for grad and guests
