Nice place. Would go again for the haggis and whisky.
Great all around experience, lovely little bar and restaurant . You feel warm and comfortable right when you walk in and if you don’t the whiskeys will help. Had great beef Wellington which is always a good time!
Very nice and quaint restaurant and bar, with extensive scotch and good bourbon selection. Scotch Egg was flavorful and flawless, and the beef wellington was cooked beautifully. Low light and nice ambiance. Great service. The young lady that took care of us was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive, without pestering.
Very very very bad service! Dismissive hostess and waitress. Food is not so good but is priced as it was. Avoid it!!!
The beef Wellington is phenomenal. I highly recommend it. The staff are very attentive and friendly as well.
One of our favourite spots in NYC. Great ambience, excellent service, food and drinks are always of a high quality and very consistent. Def recommend it to anyone visiting or exploring great bars in NYC.
Had the most amazing meal for my birthday. Visiting from Scotland & highly recommend the Haggis, Neeps & Tatties. Service & overall experience was awesome, hopefully come back one day & sample more of the delicious menu. Decor is very Higland Hunting Lodge feel & a little bit of home in NYC. Keep up the good work
We frequent The Highlands on a quite a regular basis. The drinks are fantastic, food is always good and the service is fantastic - very friendly and knowledgeable and the ambience is great. Whilst being in the heart of the West Village, it still gives you a feel of having enough time to have a long relaxed evening. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great evening out with a group of friends or just your partner.
Highlands is a true gem - great atmosphere, attentive and knowledgeable staff, good food and a fantastic drinks/ whiskey menu - there is a reason we keep coming back!
Good vibes and an amazing whisky selection. We were rushed off our table for another reservation despite ordering plenty of food, wine and whisky. Great starters, mains were hit or miss.
Roasted pear, haggis, toffee pudding were excellent. Ordered Beef Wellington very rare and it was done to perfection.
The restaurant has a great vibe and delish cocktails. The food is OK tasting, nothing special except the French fries and food in general is very heavy. We ordered 2 apps and one entree and it was all very heavily fried, not the good fried.
They were very nice about accommodating our reservation change but that's where my compliments end. The food sounded delicious but wasnt executed great for everyone in our party. The beer and wine list was great but the service. Oh my goodness. Slow, confused and lacking of any customer focus or care. We had to flag down our waitress multiple times, she seemed like she couldn't be bothered to take our orders, made no recommendations, no energy or care at all. Because of this and the meh execution on the food, I won't be running back.
Small sweet spot in West Village with excellent cocktails and whiskey collection. Food was good, but would have been really good had the Beef Wellington (we specifically came to eat) and the burger we ordered were not both served much overcooked (medium instead of medium rare/rare) -- that was very disappointing. Would recommend for ambiance if nothing else.
What a true Village gem. My friend and I wanted a taste of Scotland after having visited the country, and we found Highlands. It's warm and cozy and made us feel like we were in a wee Scottish village inn. The food is tasty, but better yet is the extensive whiskey menu. Our server was very knowledgeable and suggested ales and Scotches that were delicious.
Great food. Service was sparse. Had to flag down a sever multiple times for more drinks and to order more food.
Discover great whiskies while enjoying great food! I loved the whisky flights and detailed whisky book. The staff were lovely, and I appreciated the comprehensive list of ingredients with each dish, eliminating any guesswork. The bar is noisy, but the dining room is cozy and much quieter. Really delightful all around!
We enjoyed a nice dinner during the holiday season. The fish and chips were extremely well done with the perfect amount of crispness and several unique dipping sauces. The chicken was also very well prepared. Retaining a moisture that helped the meat melt in your mouth.
The best beef Wellington I have ever eaten in my life anywhere including London!
Excellent! All the food that was served was delicious & Beef Wellington was perfect! Service was very friendly very warm, cozy, hip place to go -
Phenomenal evening, my brother and I were commemorating the passing of our Scottish father 20 years ago. Food was excellent, with some truly authentic Scottish food including the excellent haggis -our server was also very helpful in navigating gluten free options. Whisky selection was huge, with a choice of flights for beginners or pros to sample. Really nice ambience on a snowy night, thoroughly recommend this place for Scots and non scots alike.
Always a good spot. Consistent service and food. It’s loud after 730 though! Try the scotch Old Fashion, you won’t regret it.
Highlands' staff made my boyfriend's birthday such a special event. I couldn't have hoped for a more accommodating staff. The food and drink were delicious. All around awesome night.
Great server...... great whisky selection .....
Honestly it was a disappointment. The dining area is so crowded with tables it is impossible to get up without landing in another diner’s lap. The lighting was small votive(2) candles on the table. So yes it was dark. Fine for a bar but this was in the dining room. One unisex bathroom which leaves you standing in the way of everyone from the kitchen and bar. The food; the value was not there for fish and chips and burgers. Service was good, but overall I am hard pressed to give it a 3 star.
everything is great except for the environment- noisy
I was too early for my reservation but they were most accommodating. In fact, I was the only person there. However, they didn't suggest I sit at the bar first but showed me to my table. They have an amazing scotch list and serve it in correct size cut-glass. I was hoping for original "bangers and mash" since this is a "scottish pub". This was not available but their dish of the day was lamb and cranberry sausage with sweet potato mash and onion gravy; it was delicious. For dessert I had sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream...delectable. When in the area I would certainly visit again.
Delicious, seasonal food, great bar selections and fantastic service! Lovely ambiance and delightfully cozy. Will definitely return!
Excellent selection of whiskey, great food.
cozy, noisy, atmospheric, cute. a warm, lively room that was the perfect place to be on a cold night. wonderful server. appealing menu, nicely prepared food, small portions, great desserts. the drink menu and whiskey selections were interesting and fun.
As a vegetarian, I did not have a lot of options. The food is very hearty. Big portions. But I did not particularly enjoy my food. Neither did my friend. Place is small and cozy. Might be good if you like Scottish food or meat and potatoes kind of stuff. They have a big window overlooking the street which is a nice place to sit. Service was alright.
The bartender even made me a special cocktail that I asked for ! Super fun
The food was good not great. The restaurant is small and gets loud quickly. It's super expensive for what you get. Wouldn't recommend it.
Great whiskey list, delicious food, reasonable price!
We went there for a book club meeting as it is one of the few "SCOTTISH" ( guess the country where the book originated) restaurants in NY.
Noise can be a big problem for us, but the wall between the bar and dining room made conversation possible for the first couple of hours. Then it got a wee bit loud
The food was great. The ingredients seemed fresh...pastry was not soggy and the smoked trout was a perfect portion.....no, no one had the haggis. In fact, for a pleasant change we did NOT all have bags to take home.
They did not rush us; indeed my only complaint is that they went to all the trouble to give us separate checks and slapped the group fee on each indi idual bill. Their loss.....i always overtip on these group things
We were absolutely floored by the food here. No matter what you order, literally everything on the menu is spectacular. Even the fish and chips (which in Scotland is a kind of "comfort food" item) was mind-blowingly delicious. As a Scottish person who misses home from time to time, Highlands seems less like a restaurant serving authentic Scottish food than a restaurant which serves the platonic ideal of Scottish food - what Scottish people WISH their food tasted like most of the time. It's on the high end in terms of price (for us, at least) but you really feel like you're getting every penny of it back in outstanding food.
The service was good but the food was ok.
If you like beef wellington or hagis, then this is your place.
Excellent selection of single malts from all regions of Scotland - bar area is rather boisterous and crowded; the dining area much quieter, cozy and set apart, tastefully evoking a Scottish homestead... the Haggis is surprisingly good, and the perfect compliment to Islay scotch 👍
Highlands continues to impress me year after year. I love the authenticity, great quality pricing, amazing cocktails and desserts. This is truly a "Gastro-Pub" - but there is nothing "pubby" about it other than the really warm feeling when you are inside. It's a place that feels like it should have been in NYC for 50+ years, but is barely a decade old. My favorites: Haggis, Beef Wellington, Bread Pudding Dessert, any of their craft cocktails, and amazing Scotch menu. You can't go wrong here.
Love this restaurant..best gnocchi ever and fantastic service. Be sure to get the whisky bread to start!
