A quality menu with a strong variety of options. Great drinks list and cocktails. The food is authentic enough, but a more traditional arrangement would have been nice. Space is a bit tight at the tables. Better for brunch or drinks than for a full meal.
It was really loud and packed in the bar area when we got there, but still found a little room to stand and have a drink before going to the table. Ordered scotch egg to split as an appetizer and bangers and mash special for entree. Both were incredibly good! Good portion size. Also tried the whiskey flight, and the waiter was really knowledgeable on each one and provided solid background. As someone who’s spent a lot of time in Scotland it was really nice to eat food and drink whiskey that reminded me of it! My only complaint is how packed the bar area was.
My "go-to" for a night in the Village - well worth the "commute" from the UES. Great happy hour deals, incredibly charming and accommodating staff, hearty food, and...did I mention WHISKY?
Please note: the noise level was high the evening we were there due to a special event in the bar, normally it would have been quieter.
The food at Highlands was excellent, as was the service. I appreciate going to a place were the staff knows the menus - drinks and food, and are able to make suggestions and explain the differences between those suggestions. Speaking of menus, the Scotch book there is a wonder to behold. I would definitely recommend.
Went here for Valentine's Day; I couldn't believe there was a table available. The ambiance is as warm, elegant, and comforting as the food. I've been meaning to try it for a year, and had a brilliant time.
The food was great and our server was the best. It was a very special birthday dinner!
So cozy! Great food and cocktails! Love having a taste of Scotland in the west village!
We liked the crumpets for Brunch but disappointed in the Eggs Benedict with "Smoked Scottish Trout". It seemed it was smoked salmon and nothing distinguishable. Also, it was not very warm and made it less appetizing. I will give it another chance for dinner next time or a different brunch item as I do like the coziness of the establishment and did like the "Baked Eggs" dish on another occasion.
Highlands was fantastic! The cocktails were superb and food divine. I loved the ambiance and quaint but posh feel. Service was great, but paced a bit slow for my liking (super minor issue, not major). I would definitely recommend this place.
Food was delicious. Waitress was super sweet and the Whisky choices were mind boggling!
Amazing food. We ordered the breakfast pie, the eggs Benedict with fresh sea trout, the burger & the delicious mini beef wellington bites. Everything was exceptional. The waitress was lovely & very friendly. We'll definitely be back.
Not PLAIN traditional Scottish food, which is actually what I'd gone looking for, but we ended up happy with our food anyway. For example, fancier ingredients than the plainest typical white and black puddings you'd get from a store in Scotland, and there was definitely a chef's touch. Got some great help in choosing a whisky to start my meal with, based on vague parameters I gave to our server! I'll be back.
This was our fourth year of attending the Burns Supper. So much fun!
Our second time there. Food is consistently great and we love the atmosphere. It’s a great place for a special date night. Only downside is a relatively limited menu and the prices are a bit high. But overall, for the quality of the experience it’s worth it!
I took a group of people at 5:00 p.m. on a Friday night. The place was near empty when we arrived but jumping by 7:00. We were there for scotch, and Highlands did not disappoint. Both the waiter and the waiter were very knowledgeable regarding the scotch menu and the recommended flights. I had the bone marrow and a scotch egg - both were noteworthy and fresh tasting. My only limited gripe was we were nicely kicked out of our table at 7:15 (seating is limited). I had Europeans with me, who seemed dumbfounded by this development. In any event, the ambience is well done - stags heads on the wall and tartan cloth on the chairs. This will likely become my go to scottish place in NYC, which is drowning in mediocre to downright godaweful "irish pubs."
We arrived early for our reservations as our friends had theater tickets and were seated immediately. The service was excellent from the cocktails to the main entrees. I had lamb with the marrow and the others all ordered Beef Wellington. Excellent meal, enjoyed by all. I loved the ambiance as well, cozy, not overstated. This is one highland lassie that will return.
The setting & ambiance of the restaurant were perfect for a New Year’s Eve dinner. The staff were friendly & efficient and the food was delicious!
Took our 28 yo niece and party of 10 for her birthday to Highlands for Saturday night festive dinner. i had called in advance and they agreed to accommodate our large party (even though space is quite small - several small tables pushed together, worked fine). It's a loud place, but fun, and the food is British Isles - more comfort food than foodie destination but quite good nonetheless. Claim to fame of the place is obviously the Scotch, but the wine list, though short, was nicely selected, reasonably priced, and our group put back several bottles of Sonoma Cutrer and an interesting Spanish Priorat. A fine time had by all.
Waiter was surly and unfriendly. It took forever to get a drink— and we were one of only two tables in the dining room. Ordered chicken that was tasteless and dry. The hostess embarrassed me to death by reappearing at our table several times asking me if I was ‘sure’ I had a reservation. I finally got rid of her by showing her the confirmation from open table on my phone. Very unfriendly place. Awful food, bad service. One of the worst dining experiences I’ve had living in New York City 40 years. These people truly don’t like their jobs and don’t enjoy serving you. Stay away!!
The service was incredible. The burger and wellington was absolutely phenomenal. The bar on the other side is a bit loud but once you make a reservation, the dining area is the perfect noise level. I highly recommend this place for a nice date or for the beginning of a special evening with a partner or friend.
Our party of four, including a Scot, couldn't have been happier with the cocktails and the food. "Scottish cuisine" is not an oxymoron, as you will discover if you heat here.
Even though our reservation got messed up, we were seated almost immediately on a busy weekend night. Our waiter was entertaining, and the food and service was outstanding! Very memorable!
Love them :) keep coming back! the beef wellington is amazing! keep it forever!
The food was nice ,service was excellent for such a busy place. A really enjoyable time.
Food was excellent. Well-prepared and presented.
Food is some of the best I have ever tasted, I had the pork chop which was amazing. Great atmosphere and service.
The bar side gets pretty loud, but the dining room is separate and is much quieter! Service was hit & miss but I couldn't let that detract from a stellar review because the food was really fantastic. I recommend this for anyone looking for a nice dinner out with a few drinks.
We went specifically for the Beef Wellington, and it was so delicious! The Scotch Egg, burrata, and whiskey bread pudding were also exceptional. Fantastic cocktails - their signature, the Wee Tea, was our favorite. A wonderful experience all in all!
Wonderful food and a great ambiance. This has become one of my favorite restaurants.
Fantastic food, fantastic cocktails what more do you need. one of my favorite restaurants in NYC
The whole experience was great. Starting with a phone call to the restaurant because I was stuck in Traffic. 'No problem, we will whole your reservation" Two employees, Mike and Jasmine were excellent. Their knowledge of the food and wine was perfect. I will return and enjoy another special meal.
Overall good food and a great whiskey selection. The biggest challenge was service -- seemed like every time we needed something, we had to wait 5-10 minutes to see our waiter and flag him down. Food was mostly excellent, but a very overcooked pork chop was kind of a bummer. Atmosphere was good but music selection was a little emo -- might have felt a little more lively with a different soundtrack.
I had some very tasty Haggis and the other dishes were very good. Great range of Whiskies to accompany!
El lugar, la atención, las sugerencias de Andrew, y sus platos, todo ha sido espectacular!!
Love the Beef Wellington. Everything else we tried was fantastic. Was a very happy group!
Birthday dinner with my dear roommate. The beef Wellington is incredible! The waiter recommended mussel which is also pretty tasty. Loooove the environment and dishes! Worth try again xx
Younger crowd. Don't miss out on the pretzel crusted onion rings! Good cocktails as well...
Excellent food and service
One of the best restaurants in Manhattan, and quite possibly my favorite! The Scotch menu is literally a book!
Great food and drinks. Beef Wellington and the scotch egg are a must. Def. recommend.
