The beef Wellington was good, as was The Godfather cocktail. Everything else was sub-par. We also ordered the pork belly and burrata appetizers, the potatoes and asparagus sides, and the sazerac, catholic guilt, and krankie cocktails - all nothing special. We also felt the service was off.
If you go, the beef Wellington won’t disappoint, and stick to the scotch menu.
The food was good, but a little noisy
We were here in Friday night meeting a large group. I had a reservation for two but the group organizer did not make a reservation. They had sat 8 and then managed to seat 9 of us on my reservation for two. The waiter was a saint. The food was a good value as well and also very good.
Wasn't sure what to expect, other than a West Village version of "Scottish cuisine" and single malts. But it was great. Service was friendly and informal but also competent and attentive. Pork belly pate, scotch egg, haggis -- all were delicious. Incredible single malt collection and themed tasting flights. Totally enjoyable.
Really enjoyed the experience. The music was a reasonable volume, the place is on a beautiful street, and the restaurant was cozy and well kept. The wait staff were phenomenal and the food was unique. I went for a Sunday brunch at 11:45am with one other person and we were so pleased. Highly recommended.
Friendly, warm, Nouvelle Scots place in the West Village. Nice chef, nice twists on Scots classics like kedgeree and scotch eggs. Fresh ingredients, inviting space...lovely overall. Great brunch menu, too.
Visiting from Boston and picked Highlands on the good reviews, the ability to make a reservation for 6, location, and my love of Scotland. We all LOVED the food, especially the mushroom and crab toasts, and the beef Wellington. The sticky toffee dessert was also great. Loved how it was decorated inside too. We’re not in NYC often but glad we found this place for a Saturday night!
Scotch egg and beef wellington were amazing, best food we ate in New York! There was a problem with the order machine so our dessert order was accidentally missed, but they took the drinks off the bill as a way of an apology. Servers were very friendly, and orders taken and food brought quickly. Would highly recommend Highlands
I had the chicken with. asparagus and artichoke hearts. Chicken is delicious when cooked to perfection and it was. There was a buttery sauce for the vegetables which was excellent. In our group of four one had trout and the other had beef Wellington. No complaints. This was a reunion of old friends and the low noise level made it easy for visiting. This was my first time to eat Scotch eggs and they were nothing special.
Overall a good evening. Not enough wait staff. Food was good but I had heard it was really good
We went for brunch and used a $39 brunch voucher. The ambiance was intimate. I’m not sure if the side with the bar was reserved for a party, but they crammed everyone in a small dinning area. So close you can hear the many conversations going on around you. Not that it mattered because the waitress is on point, friendly and made sure we got our worth in unlimited drinks. They also allow you to switch between a variety of strong drinks. The lamb burger was delicious and the dipping sauce made it even better. I would definitely recommend this place.
Wonderful staff. Wonderful food. Wonderful whisky!
I’ve been here before and I like it for dinner but the brunch was disappointing. Food was way too salty. I also couldn’t get the Internet to work which annoyed me. The place was rather empty for the entire time we were there so I guess it’s not that popular for brunch. Prices are high.
Great food and drinks as always. Quiet evening this time around with many people out of town for the long weekend.
Not really solace for fine dining. Happy Hour made it very noisy. Doubt I’ll be back. Friendly service, though.
Excellent on every level!!! This is the place where you bring your besties, out of town family and friends and your dates with a relaxed, classy yet not stuffy kinda vibe! The Beef Wellington is to die for, the cocktails are the best in NYC and the service is WAY above par! The staff go above and beyond to make your visit feel special. Loveeee Highlands!
Overall, the dinner was great. We ordered the crab meat and prawn toast (which was amazing), the beef Wellington (also excellent), and the caulilini (which was the best part of the meal). Service was great! The only problem was the size of the table - as it was a little small.
Definitely coming back here in our next trip to the city.
Best fish and chips I have had in NYC. Sausage Roll was fab. Sticky Toffee Pudding was the closest to what I could have at home in Scotland. Overall we loved the Highlands. Service was tiny bit slow between courses.
Everything was great. The cheese platter, the Scottish eggs were to die for and the Wellington was great ( I would like it without the broth better but I know better for next time).
Our waiter was very nice and attentive without being overwhelming. Will definitely come back
Love this place, I have for years. Finally tried the brunch and it was just as good! Michael our bartender was fantastic and the drinks were delicious! Looking forward to going back!!
I really love this spot for brunch or a nice meal but booked after 8pm and it feels like a totally different place closer to a club than place for a cozy Scottish meal. I know we’ll never get real haggis in the US so I don’t expect that but the dish, while very tasty, could be made and presented in a way that’s a much more interesting. Fish and chips batter a little soggy.
Wait staff was attentive and friendly. We had an early dinner 6-7:30 so it was quiet for dinner conversation. I had the mushroom toasts for an appetizer and shared the burratta cheese app too. Both were excellent well balanced flavors. Also had the quinoa salad. Very good. The decor is great. The only downside was it was more expensive than I thought it would be.
It is so noisy when you enter that I thought about turning around and leaving. However the room we sat in wasn't bad. I thought the menu was a little limited for my diet. But the food was good. It's very cozy and the service was good. I would not return however if you like a cozy noisy place with a limited menu I think you will like it here.
Great brunch food and lovely service in a chilled atmosphere. Love the Scottish touches!!
We were visiting NYC from Iowa. The food was beautifully presented and delicious. The cocktails were fresh and tasty. The waitress and attentive and friendly.
Amazing brunch! Very creative, yet healthy menu and delicious cocktails. The mule was one of the best I have had and same for the lamb burger.
Excellent Haggis. Overall very good food. Nice place. Will return next Tartan day. Cheers.
A quality menu with a strong variety of options. Great drinks list and cocktails. The food is authentic enough, but a more traditional arrangement would have been nice. Space is a bit tight at the tables. Better for brunch or drinks than for a full meal.
It was really loud and packed in the bar area when we got there, but still found a little room to stand and have a drink before going to the table. Ordered scotch egg to split as an appetizer and bangers and mash special for entree. Both were incredibly good! Good portion size. Also tried the whiskey flight, and the waiter was really knowledgeable on each one and provided solid background. As someone who’s spent a lot of time in Scotland it was really nice to eat food and drink whiskey that reminded me of it! My only complaint is how packed the bar area was.
Heard that the beef wellington was good, so we decided to try it since we were traveling to New York soon. Definitely recommend the beef wellington and any other lamb dishes. The prices was also very reasonable.
My "go-to" for a night in the Village - well worth the "commute" from the UES. Great happy hour deals, incredibly charming and accommodating staff, hearty food, and...did I mention WHISKY?
Please note: the noise level was high the evening we were there due to a special event in the bar, normally it would have been quieter.
The food at Highlands was excellent, as was the service. I appreciate going to a place were the staff knows the menus - drinks and food, and are able to make suggestions and explain the differences between those suggestions. Speaking of menus, the Scotch book there is a wonder to behold. I would definitely recommend.
Went here for Valentine's Day; I couldn't believe there was a table available. The ambiance is as warm, elegant, and comforting as the food. I've been meaning to try it for a year, and had a brilliant time.
The food was great and our server was the best. It was a very special birthday dinner!
So cozy! Great food and cocktails! Love having a taste of Scotland in the west village!
We liked the crumpets for Brunch but disappointed in the Eggs Benedict with "Smoked Scottish Trout". It seemed it was smoked salmon and nothing distinguishable. Also, it was not very warm and made it less appetizing. I will give it another chance for dinner next time or a different brunch item as I do like the coziness of the establishment and did like the "Baked Eggs" dish on another occasion.
Highlands was fantastic! The cocktails were superb and food divine. I loved the ambiance and quaint but posh feel. Service was great, but paced a bit slow for my liking (super minor issue, not major). I would definitely recommend this place.
Food was delicious. Waitress was super sweet and the Whisky choices were mind boggling!
Amazing food. We ordered the breakfast pie, the eggs Benedict with fresh sea trout, the burger & the delicious mini beef wellington bites. Everything was exceptional. The waitress was lovely & very friendly. We'll definitely be back.
