About Highlander Bar & Grill
Highlander Bar & Grille is just 20 minutes from downtown Helena located just off the shores of Canyon Ferry Lake at Norwegian Wood Ranch where we raise and serve Scottish Highlander cattle. It is a unique dining experience with outdoor dining in the summer months, a full bar and live music on the weekends. If you’re lucky, you can see our 950 pound "Pork-chop the Pig". This is a truly Montanan dining experience with great local color.

Highlander Bar & Grill Ratings and Reviews
A wonderful find that I look forward to returning to. The food was fabulous and the chief and bartender an absolute delight to converse with. My journey here at times had me questioning the GPS. If you find yourself doing the same please trust it and make your way to this great restaurant!
Prompt service and fun atmosphere with a live band on the deck that moved inside when the wind started blowing to hard. A little harder to have a conversation when that happened, but at that point the food arrived and we dug in. Great 9 oz. filet (perfectly done) and appetizers were tasty. No room for dessert. Overall a great date night.
web site said closed until 5:00, hamburgers on menu on web site, but was told when seated, reasonable price food (hamburgers) is only during lunch, which DOES NOT have those hours or info on web site! Air conditioner apparently didn't work!
So we ended up spending WAY to much $ for over priced food we did not want while sweating!
Perhaps think about including food/price that the average family can afford because the place is a sweet Sunday drive.
This place is small and rustic. It is on a golf course but has the feel of being on a farm because there are pigs and cows there. The atmosphere was more casual than I expected. I think it would be a good place to meet up with friends for a special occasion. The drive there is beautiful. It's a little pricey but the food was really good. Definitely recommend the cheesecake!
Very loud, crappy band playing inside a very small space so we chose to eat outside. Our wait staff person complained several times to us about the dishwasher not showing up for his shift. Lots of confusion about our orders, and then meals arrived cold. There's potential for this to be a nice spot to dine, but they need to decide what they want to be....a place to drink and listen to local (loud & untalented) music, or a quiet, intimate destination for summer dining.
A large group of coworkers and I were in town for my 50th birthday and the folks at the Highlander really took care of us. We had great food, and the staff was fun, friendly and helpful. The space isn't large so except for one brave couple that had dinner that night, our 25 person group filled the space but the setting was beautiful and rustic. Everything I hoped for with full bar and a good selection of locally brewed beer.
Food is excellent, this is the third time we have been, dinner twice and once for lunch. From the walleye to the burgers the chef knows what they are doing. This is a little drive out of town that is so well worth it. The first time we went was over a year ago, the owner came over and checked in to make sure we were enjoying ourselves, the second time he took our daughters to see the pig, and unfortunately he was gone this time. But his staff is amazing. The atmosphere is laid back and the food is 5 star.
This was our first time at the Highlander but it will certainly not be our last! It was AWESOME! The food prepared and served by Chef Amber was very nicely presented and tasted great! Everything from the shrimp appetizer to the Filet Mignon and the Walleye. Excellent! Can't wait to return to try something else!
We happened to fine Highlander through Open Table. So glad we did. About 20 miles or so out of the town center of Helena, it was a beautiful drive. The food was delicious, and everyone was so very nice. Nice outside deck if the weather is nice. Worth the drive!
My wife, Victoria, our son, Isaiah and I love the Highlander! The atmospher, food, music, and staff are incredible. The wine list is out standing and includes many eastern Washington wines. The food never dissapoints. The drive from Helena across the Canyon Ferry Dam is georgeous.
Beautiful scenery and ambiance with excellent customer service. The food was over the top wonderful--had duck breast for the first time--heavenly and will have it again. Acustical music by Mables Rage was great. Overall experience was a great one that we will repeat
We have eaten here several times and the food was very good. My shrimp was great, but my husband's ribs were dry and tough. We had to pick three wines before they had one in stock, but it was excellent. The wait staff is very friendly, but we would have preferred a person available to seat us as that person was also covering the golfing customers.
Our food was well prepared and the tastes were fantastic.
The music was far too loud where we were seated, and as a result we could not hear our waitress very well nor could we effectively converse with one another during dinner -- the evening dining experience was not nearly as enjoyable as it could've been.
The steak and shrimp were tops. Service excellent and you can dine outside if you so wish. Our waitress was very friendly. The owner always stops by to say thanks. When I read bad reviews of this kind of dining, I think those people ought to stay in a big town and go to high dollar restaurants.
My opinion only------
