Highlander Bar & Grill is just 20 miles from downtown Helena, across Canyon Ferry Dam at the Norwegian Wood Ranch. Excellent dining in a casual setting, and featuring Executive Chef Giovanni Rios, this locally cherished restaurant is a culinary destination with dishes inspired by the natural beauty of Montana. The finely tuned menu features hand-cut, juicy steaks from Miller Ranch Beef, fresh fish and seafood from Ocean Beauty, delicious pasta dishes and local produce, as well as a delectable Sunday Brunch. Experience hand-crafted cocktails in our cozy western bar and savor outdoor seating along Magpie Creek in the summer months. Enjoy live music on Friday and Saturday evenings. Been coming here for date nights for a few years, usually catching our friends, The Unpredictables play music. It’s our fun special place! We love the new chef, he has brought the best food yet in the last 5 years and is super friendly. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu!

What a lovely place! We had reservations, were seated immediately by the owner, outside, per our request. There was live music, a fabulous drink and food menu, and attentive and friendly staff. We had the Korean bbq short ribs, shrimp and scallops, and the chef's cut steak, all cooked to perfection. Definitely looking forward to our next visit.

A unique off the beaten path dining experience nestled in the beauty of a Montana Mountain cove. The property is a delight, the intimate dining area offers just enough space from other diners. The bar is welcoming and bright. Menu is diverse but simple and the taste and quality is satisfying. House made dessert is definitely worth the drive.

The food was fine. Steaks were a little over cooked. The service was terrible. Our server brought out part of our tables meal and then went to take the order of a large table. The second half of our tables food came out about 15 minutes later after I’m assuming the owner asked how our meal was. This was very disappointing. There was not even an apology from the server or the owner for the delay. The Highlander was a favorite of ours for special occasions. I don’t think we will be back.

Great food. It was busy but we were there to enjoy ourselves so we didn't mind it took a little while to get our food. It was worth the wait.

Our chef is taking steps to smooth things out in the kitchen so we can get meals out more quickly and we'll continue to add more staff to ensure our guests will always have a great experience. We love The Highlander. It's a great local bar/restaurant with excellent live music. The food is always good, nice wine selection and great German beer!
