For a hotel dining room it was acceptable, however the space was large and as such lacked ambience. We had a rump steak, beef burger and a sea bass special all were cooked well and enjoyed. The service was attentive and friendly.

In bar drinks were poured, cocktail lasts longer, it would be brought to table the girl said. 9 persons in total in the bar/lounge area. 3 servants. After 15 min seeing a bar guy folding napkins I got up and asked about the cocktail. He pointed at the bar where it stood, in front of other people. Very strange, the guy was totally not interested, looked at me like : how dare you ask! In restaurant (5 tables of diners) : daughter wanted a gin and tonic, Hendricks, girl came back : never heard of, ok than a Bombay Safire, girl came back : they ran out of Bombay Safire and after 3rd time she came back and said they ran out of gin completely. My wife asked black paper but waitress said they only had the white stuff in the shaker on the table. Half way through dish we saw restaurant manager walking past and asked for black pepper ?? Yes, she would get some. 80% of meal gone, a girl came to table with a pepper pot, 'it took so long' she said ' because they had no idea how to open it' (by the way it was white pepper corns in it), my wife took it off her and showed it was a pepper grinder !! Total surprise. Though the food was good and the service friendly, the staff has ABSOLUTELY no idea ! This place, the Marriot Highcliff Hotel in Bournemouth does CERTAINLY NOT add anything to the Marriot group. It breathe poverty. and nobody seems responsible or interested. Weird experience.

Booked on late notice but they were very accommodating for myself and my partner. Service was excellent and did not rush us to finish our meal at all like we have experienced before in other restaurants.

The restaurant 'lost' our booking and tried to palm us off with an inferior table despite my advance request for one with a view. To be fair, every effort was made to solve the problem once I made it clear that I wasn't just making a noise to get a better table. Unfortunately, though, the overall standard of service at the hotel restaurants remains utterly unacceptable.

I booked a table for dinner online, when we arrived we were told we didn't have a booking but were squeezed in. We ordered a bottle of wine and were given some bread, we ordered our food which after eventually arrived over an hour later dry and overcooked. Terrible food and awful service, would definitely not go back.

We stayed as guests at the Marriott Hotel and were looking forward to eating at this restaurant. Friday night 10th April was relatively quiet - approx. 15 diners in total. The decor was uninspired and looked dated. No music so lacked ambience despite nice view over sea. Experience let down by poorly trained waiters (fingers on plate/sauce, no charm/welcome, etc.) - we felt they all preferred to have the night off. We picked the set menu but what a mistake - felt like the food had been prepared in advance by a chef who was catering for the 'coach party crowd' (tasteless/overcooked). With a bit of passion, a face-lift, and cookery skills this restaurant could be so much better... avoid until then...

Whilst we had a relatively nice meal at the Highcliff Grill in Bournemouth, I ordered Steak Medium Rare, and it turned up medium to well done, and when our starters came out they were initially taken to the wrong table, then back to the kitchen before coming to us a couple of minutes later which mean't my starter was just warm, although still nice. When ordering a Dessert I liked the sound of the Chocolate Pudding with Cherry Compote, on ordering it they said it takes 30 minutes to prepare, this is not mentioned on the menu, if they did this I could have ordered same time as my main so it then could have been ready to serve. Our Waiter was on his first day and this was obvious by a number of mistakes which is down to the lack of proper training. However saying all that the staff were nice and friendly. Onl leaving the Restaraunt we asked for our coats, as no one got them we found them ourselves, not hanging up but thrown on a seat in an unused part of the Restaraunt. They need to improve in some areas

We ate from the Dorset menu, mackerel from Chesil Beach and the fresh Pollock were delightful. The flavours were super, the fish really fresh. Super puddings to finish. Worth every penny. Service was super.

My husband and I were staying at the hotel, so booked a table in the restaurant. On arrival we were show to a central room table although I had asked for a window table and one remained empty the entire time we were there! The restaurant was busy with several large groups and these seemed to delay service. The starter and dessert we very good, but I felt the steak let them down as a main course, not the best I have had and I asked for medium and it was definitely rare. It also felt that tap water was rationed as our glasses were only filled to one third each time we requested a refill. The staff were trying but over run by the groups.
