Super South African restaurant in a wonderful setting right next to the River Thames. Not the easiest to find but once there, the ambience and food were excellent. The staff were very friendly and good fun. Highly recommended.
I'm a regular here (although never quite as often as I'd like) so only really review what's new now. This time it was the superb in-season asparagus; I've never had better. CWG brandy was pricy (though less than many good cognacs) and wonderful. Ribeye steak impeccable as always.
Very friendly staff / very good quality steaks and south African wine selection
Not cheap but good for business and nice river views
Awesome place: steaks from heaven. Lovely friendly staff and owner. Can’t wait to return!
Excellent food, wine and South African ambience. Prices are quite high.
This joint’s a hidden gem .
Wine collection is class
This is my 4th visit to this restaurant with clients and it never fails to deliver. Great food and wine in a relaxed setting. As a tip I would suggest that the cooking of the steak is more 'authentic' than generic steak restaurants and so if you'd like a rare steak, ask for medium rare otherwise you may find that you have a blue steak. This is in no way a criticism but rather an observation.
Great place tucked away right down by the Thames that the taxi driver didn’t know about .we went quite late for lunch 1-45 somthe midday lunch crowd had gone and got undivided attention by staff and wonderful steK lunch with great red wine too
Great food, great wine, great service (especially Naleen).
I belatedly realised that I had eaten here before in the private room downstairs.
Great location, good view, not crowded and quiet enough to talk easily, all of which are important to me.
Sadly my food was indifferent: the biltong croquettes tasted of nothing much and although there was plenty of my schnitzel, I could not have identified it as veal.
My companion was very happy with her steak but we both felt that the wine was overpriced for what it was.
Overall a pleasant evening but I shall not be rushing back until the menu changes.
Took the family for daughters 21st as a special occasion. once again this venue did not disappoint. Food was to die for between us we had Tea smoked salmon, biltong croquettes to start, Main we had the 250g fillet which was massive and veal schnitzel. The Malva pudding is a must
Great service, great food and Neleen the host is fabulous as always.
Thank you to the team at High Timber who made us feel so welcome! Thank you to Neleen for singling us out and giving us a tour of their spectaular cellars and private dining room. An amazing lunch and can't wait for the next time
The staff at High Timber were very efficient and well mannered, and the ambiance was pleasant enough. I was a little disappointed with the food. Though there was nothing wrong with it, and it was cooked perfectly well, is just wasn't very exciting. I'd hoped for a bit more from the food and came away mildly underwhelmed.
Always struggle a little to find this gem, but once there it always delivers. Fresh food, friendly staff, gorgeous wines. My ribeye once again perfectly cooked and the side salad really tasty with a bit of sweetcorn and sundried tomatoes.
Restaurant was very cold, starter was cold, for the price I thought very poor indeed and was so looking forward to eating there!
Best steak I’ve had in London and a delicious glass of African Sunshine with dessert - Highly recommend a visit!
It's round the corner from St Paul's and very convenient for business lunch. We strayed away from the signature steak and the fish was cooked perfectly too. The SA wine is always good and the service friendly and attentive.
An unexpected delight. We were looking for a restaurant near the city and stumbled upon High Timber online. Fabulous views, lovely steaks, great wine, charming staff - we had a great time. I would happily return!
Really enjoyed a good work hrsitmas lunch at HT. Food was good quality and authentic and staff very happy to discuss
A fantastic dining experience. Every time we’re in London we make it a point to dine here with friends/business colleagues and we are always delighted with the food and service.
Excellent spot for a steak dinner, right on the banks of the Thames, with a splendid view of the Shard at night! The wine selection of South African wines is superb. Get there early to enjoy unique drinks at the Bar, or a slow walk on Paul's walk from the foot of the Millennium Bridge to the restaurant. We live in Florida and travel extensively. This is our favorite spot while in London.
good food and seating. great view of the river. highly recommend
We had a lovely lunch at High Timber. The food was lovely as was the wine. The location is great, right next to the river and the service was excelent.
An excellent meal and enjoyed the SA flavour. A bit pricy (I'm used to home counties prices!), but I guess the location has a lot to do with that!
Overpriced for what it is. Steak was average at best
Well presented and good steak. Ordered rare but came more like medium.
Price good for London
Lovely restaurant, staff charming and food very tasty. Views outstanding, just very difficult to find! Allow lots of time wandering around the city if London to find it!
Lovely waterside restaurant opposite the Tate Modern. Menu is small, but interesting with Biltong and steaks. Went for the steak, so we weren’t disappointed. Steaks were perfectly cooked, sides nice and (South African) wine was lovely, although it made the overall cost a little expensive.
However, staff were very good, attentive but not overbearing.
Overall, we had a lovely dinner and would definitely recommend the High Timber!
Outstanding evening with my son . He and I love our steak, no better place to enjoy great food perfectly cooked.
We are well traveled South Africans from Cape Town and were excited to take our London friends along and try High Timber as we have been to Jordan on numerous occasions and love it! It was, however, a very disappointing experience. Food average, wines highly over priced, staff disinterested, decor bizarre. What an embarrassment for a South African family to put its name to this restaurant. Good luck!
South African style meat restaurant. Good meat and very kind staff. Great atmosphere
Great location for steak lovers. Friday steak and wine for £20 is a good deal. Service quick.
Was trying to find a spot along the Thames for dinner and found High Timber on open table. The entire evening really surpassed our expectations. The entire staff was lovely, the negronis on point, and the food superb! We sat outside soaking up one of the last warm(ish) evenings! Also.. save room for the creme brulee :)
Great steak and South African inspired starters and desserts. Decent wine list too. Shame there aren’t any South African inspired mains though!
The food was wonderful - one of the best steaks I have ever had and cooked to perfection. The Jordan wine was superb after hearing about the vineyard for years I was still taken back by how fantastic it paired with the beef and with my companion’s tagliatelle. Thank you Neleen and staff
Good service but a poor meal overall and SERIOUSLY overpriced - The food was far from exceptional with fish overcooked, tiny (but pricey) side orders of vegetables boiled/steamed to the point of being flavourless and bland - the white tomato gazpacho tasted like single cream with a bit of olive oil thrown in.
Lovely staff but really disappointing food considering I paid around £60 per head.... And a surcharge of £1.50 for 4 thin half slices of bread. I expect more from a restaurant that has the cheek to charge so much.
Fantastic meat-centric menu (these folks really know steak!) with an amazing wine selection.
Always a winner! Food is fantastic and they have an amazing wine selection! Would highly recommend.
Exceptional food, wine and service. We will definitely be coming back!
"Outstanding" applies to the menu, food, wine, service and setting. Cannot rate more highly!
