High Street on Market
One of the best meals I have ever had. Everything was excellent, fresh and flavorfull. Tastes exploded in my mouth. We had the oysters, scallop crudo and chicken nuggs, then monk fish, brussel sprouts and papardelle, followed by the Boston cream cake and apple tart. Even the cappuccino was delicious. The service was as good as the food. Love this place.
We had a very late reservation so the place was fairly empty. Charming , rustic, atmosphere. The cheese board appetizer was my favorite part of the meal. Delicious! The steak was good and people liked the crab pasta dish. Our waitress was very good.
The food was amazing. The environment was warm and cozy. Great place to meet friends in town. Could be noisy if there is a chatty group. But the food, service and overall home-welcome environment were just remarkable. Highly recommended.
High Street has consistently delivered a fantastic dining experience, with excellent food and a warm, attentative service. We found this place earlier this year and it has become our go to for any special occasions. Tonight was no exceptions. Each course was just the right size, and every item on the plate wonderfully flavored. We will always feel at home at High Street.
The restaurant week special was outstanding and the rose wine was delicious.
The hanger steak was excellent, perfectly prepared! Limited menu, however nice choices.
Amazing food. Great ambiance. Ate here and Vernick food and drink. This was by far far better. Real and creative cooking that’s just delicious. I’ve traveled extensively in Italy and I had one of the best pastas ever here.
High Street used to be a favorite of ours and seemed to have gone a bit downhill lately but after last night's dining experience I don't think we will be back. The menu has the same level of creativity but the quality and execution (and service) just weren't there. We shared the fish and a mushroom pasta for our mains and the fish was overall very bland with a few spots that were way oversalted. The pasta itself was good but the amount of dried mushrooms used was off balance and it was overall kind of underwhelming compared to pastas we've previously had at High Street.
Hi Caitlin, Your specific feedback on the food is very helpful and appreciated. I am reaching out privately in hopes of gleaning few more insights from you about your service experience. Thank you. Best, Avery
Honestly, the service was unacceptable. We waited a little less than ten minutes to even be greeted, and then ended up waiting a total of 20 minutes after our reservation time. We were served WARM drinking water and NO bread...even though we sat literally right next to the bread station. Not that we needed it, but it was sort of an insult to see other tables being served bread and olive oil. I received my oyster course (which i ordered instead of drink) before anyone even started making my BF's drink (the first thing that was even ordered). After ten minutes (and half way through my oysters) we noticed our waitress ask the hostess to make the drink for her (which she should have pawned off ten minutes earlier). We painfully watched the slowest drink in history be made as the hostess kept stepping away to greet others. When the drink was finally completed, she left it at the pass...and by this time we had already been both served our appetizer course. We refused to begin eating out of precedence, and had to ask the hostess to give my BF his drink. Unacceptable to be served two courses before they could manage to make and serve one drink. My appetizer was horrible but the entre was great...even still I wouldn't return for that sort of service.
Jordan, Thank you for the feedback. I've reached out privately and hope to heard back from you. -Avery
Great restaurant, I am glad we picked it for restaurant week. I have a 12 year son that's nearing 13, they are not good with "different". Our server was excellent, she made him feel comfortable and still stayed professional with me and my husband. From the wine selection, appetizers to the dessert all the dishes were excellent. The bread with appetizers, was nice, crusty, and flavorful. I work in Center City Philadelphia , my plan is stop by for pastries and coffee before work one day. I also, told my husband I want to check out your breakfast or brunch. Thanks for the food, service and ambiance.
The service was extraordinary. My appetizer was unrecognizable except for the mega crispy cracker bits which accompanied the dish. It didn’t help that the restaurant was very dark. Both my husband and I ordered “steak and potatoes” as a main course. The meat was very tough and lacked a memorable flavor. The shoestring potatoes were a joke. Imagine a bird’s nest of straw, if you will. That was the appearance and texture of these shoestring potatoes. It was hardly a side dish and could have been used better as a garnish on any other vegetable. I had the ice cream for dessert. It was delicious but the portion was minuscule.
Exceptional service and food. Really felt like a steal coming in for our first experience during restaurant week.
Very trendy restaurant. Definitely for foodies!! Not for the meat and potatoes crowd. Service is a little slow.
Food was very good. Nice presentation. My husband is a picky eater and he enjoyed the food. The baratta was excellent.
Most of our small plates and meals were very good. Beer can chicken came out raw for two of us. They replaced with a new entree and didn't charge us for either which was nice. Service was oddly inattentive at times which was surprising given the amount of staff. Ordered a dessert cocktail and they forgot it. Just felt unpolished given the price point and ambiance.
Heard great things and was not disappointed! Awesome food and cocktails!
The chef is amazing.
I’ve wanted to come here since they opened a few (or more) years ago. It was everything I wanted and more! Get the smoked oysters, they will change your life. No where in Philly have I encountered these when eating, even at the well known steak and seafood houses. Though the menu is smaller than most restaurants, there isn’t a poorly executed dish in the place. Service was great-leaving our table alone for long periods of time to allow for uninterrupted conversation and only interjecting at the correct times. We were the first table there and the last one to leave. I will be back very soon.
We sat outside this evening at High Street and enjoyed a wonderful dinner. The staff was all attentive and wonderful, yet not overbearing. I look forward to returning to Hight Street on Market.
We did our weekly date night! The pizza was amazing! You guys should do it more often.
Pizza pop-up was extremely cute (checkered tablecloths included!) and extremely tasty.
Parents in town. The short rib was fantastic and their bread was amazing.
We have had lunch here many times, but this was our first dinner. It was really fabulous. Like Fork, their sister restaurant, they use really fresh, seasonal ingredients. We started with a tempura soft-shell crab accompanied by a lovely melon salad. It was cooked to perfection. Other starter was burrata accompanied by a similar melon salad. Also delish. For main, we had the sword fish special accompanied by super healthy and delicious grains and greens, and a lovely avocado sauce. Also perfectly prepared. Other main was the beer can chicken with a to die-for mac 'n cheese (not actually mac, but better.) Sublime. We took half the chicken home and reheated it in the oven next day, and it was still succulent. Delicious, creative cocktails too! Wait staff is friendly and attentive without hovering. My only complaint is the prices are a bit high for such a casual place, as compared to Fork, but the food is of such high quality that it's a quibble.
Food was disappointing. Pasta was uneventful and bland. The cheese plate was very small.
Hi Boni, I am sorry to hear your meal at High Street was a disappointment. We pride ourselves on full flavored food, so to hear a dish was bland is something we take seriously. Any chance you recall which pasta it was? We very much value the feedback and truly appreciate it. We hope you'll give us another try sometime! Thank you! Best, Avery
We enjoyed our meal, but the seasoning was a tad too salty on the noodles. The bread is delicious and the service is thoughtful and excellent. We would go again, but recommend going before or after the meal time rush. It can get very crowded and noisy. Ingredients are fresh. Cocktails are excellent. Don't recommend the apple cider which is pretty bland and sweet.
I am gluten intolerant & have several food allergies. The waitresses & kitchens were VERY accommodating. Greatly appreciated to their understanding & help. Really delicious "chicken nugs".
Outstanding place with phenomenal tasting food and great service.
I’ve been to High Street twice now for dinner and both times were excellent. The food is unique and perfectly prepared. I particularly enjoy the option to share everything so all can appreciate the different flavors, or to have a traditional entree.
A gem. Amazing food. A little loud but a really special experience
The pastas are incredible!
This is a neighborhood gem. Stopped in for a small, early dinner and HSoM never disappoints. Started with hearty, fresh, and chewy, grain bread with black olive oil. An amazing appetizer of fried cheese curds with 2 “dips” - creamy honey mustard and a pickled cherry pepper jam (amazing and spicy!). Main course was beer can chicken - tender with crisp roasted skin, herbed au jus, with jalapeño mac & cheese, and mini savory cornbread muffins on the side. Finished with a scoop of house made caramel cookie crunch ice cream that was filled with texture, burnt sugar flavor and sweet cookie bites - a perfect finish. Don’t miss this spot!
Delish per usual. Hard to find a more inventive menu in a casual setting. They seem to know just when you need a dose of comfort to pair with their wildly fresh and local fare. And the music is always good!
simple menu but the food is presented very well and very tasty. Ambiance has music but not too loud, small room that gives a sense of coziness. I recommend it.
The carrots were really a nice dish. The asparagus was good. The Ramen type dish was also pleasant.
Andrew and I have been fans of High Street since it opened. Have to admit that a dinner without broccoli/chow-chow and bluefish/bread was disconcerting, but it didn't matter because everything we had was just as good as our old favorites.
Beautifully prepared fish with vegetables. Delicious blueberry chamomile pie, and also honeycomb ice cream. Knowledgeable attentive service.
The food was outstanding!! Absolutely wonderful. The greet staff and servers could have been delivering newspapers or pantyhose. No connection very robotic
We have been going to High Street for years for their wonderful tasting menu. We were so disappointed this last visit that the tasting menu is no more, however the food was just as excellent as always, and the simple seasonal menu full of fresh bold flavors.
Very good menu. Lots of veggies and lovely presentation.
Amazing food and service! Will go back again
Very excited that we got to try High Street on Market last night. It did not disappoint. The staff were ALL fantastic and while they admitted that the menu had just been refreshed, their knowledge of the items and recommendations were spot on. We ate outside because it was a nice evening. Inside was a bit stuffy but once the air conditioner is turned on, I'm sure it would be fine. The chairs outside were a little uncomfortable and the table small but we didn't mind too much. We started with grilled asparagas (because it was in season) and it was delicious. Flavorful and satisfying. Then we shared the mussels steamed in lager. We asked for more bread because we didn't want to leave that fantastic juice. We then shared the grilled fish (branzino) over grains and other yummies. My husband was still a little hungry so he ordered the whipped avocado. Wow - such an interesting mix of flavors. The only thing I was a bit disappointed in was the desserts. He had some custard, banana thing and I had the german chocolate cake. They were okay but nothing to write home about. BUT, we didn't come for desserts so we were very happy with our experience!
