We ate at High Street twice in three days, and were entranced by the flavorful combinations and reasonable prices. It is an understated gem.
Great food, great people, great atmosphere! The flavor combinations and exquisitely farm fresh ingredients are a truly perfect combo- and superb wine! Dessert is bomb and staff- friendly. An excellent, small, quiet and rustic place to enjoy a fabulous meal.
Waitress very pleasant but inattentive, which if we did not have theater tickets would not have been a concern
We did not have this problem on previous visits and will definitely return. This was our third visit.
Extremely pleasant place near the Arden Theatre. Fine food, pleasant atmosphere and service.
High Street exceeded all of our expectations. The food and service were out of this world! Highly recommend.
Although We were about an hr late, arriving at about 9:45 on a weeknight, the staff couldn’t have been more gracious. And our light dinner of three apps was all yummy and large portioned. We had the charred broccoli, cheese curds and scallop crudo, which was our favorite.
Hi Fran, Thanks so much for this nice review. We are glad you made it!
Yum! From start to finish it was a fabulous meal. We did over order, but managed to eat most of it because we couldn't bear to leave it. Definitely check it out. Brussels were my favorite!
Always a great experience. The service is top-notch and the menu is full of creative and elevated takes on familiar dishes.
I was disappointed this time. The pappardelle didn't have much in it except the pasta. My appetizer of squash and ricotta was too sweet. The wine was too expensive and although it was a red wine, it was served cold.
Love this place. Service always personally delivered!
So glad to find this excellent local foods restaurant that creatively prepares some amazing dishes. I was really pleased that they offered local wine, which for some reason is uncommon even in most local foods restaurants.
Always a delicious, meal appealing to our foodie selves. Staff is wonderful
Hi! This sounds like a good review, much appreciated! Any chance you didn't actually intend to give 1 star?
Service was attentive without being intrusive. Restaurant has a nice vibe and the food was delicious. A special shout out for the bread.
Great dinner with friends on a Saturday evening. Our party of 4 split the cheese board, scallop crudo appetizer, 2 pastas, crispy brussels sprouts, the steak, and the fish of the day. We also split the boston creme cake at the end of the evening. Everything was great, but the crab spaghetti, fish, and steak dishes were the favorites. Definitely a place to come if you have friends that like to share! The restaurant also had a nice wine flight special that most of us had as well. Roughly $65/person, so not a cheap every-day dinner, but definitely a place to go for a special occasion. Our server was great too - he was very helpful in picking the right amount of food.
We go there every time we are in Philadelphia, about 3 times a year. We've never had a disappointing dish there: amazing, creative, yet somehow homey food, in a cozy atmosphere.
Our meal was delicious except for the apple cake which was dry and tasteless. The bathroom situation is confusing since it is shared with the restaurant next door.
Recently went with my wife and another couple for dinner. We had a few appetizers and main courses and everything was outstanding. This was our second time here and we'll definitely be back.
I have only been here for brunch until last week. It was absolutely sensational. Cozy, warm and with the food and service to match a wonderful fall evening.
One of the best meals I have ever had. Everything was excellent, fresh and flavorfull. Tastes exploded in my mouth. We had the oysters, scallop crudo and chicken nuggs, then monk fish, brussel sprouts and papardelle, followed by the Boston cream cake and apple tart. Even the cappuccino was delicious. The service was as good as the food. Love this place.
We had a very late reservation so the place was fairly empty. Charming , rustic, atmosphere. The cheese board appetizer was my favorite part of the meal. Delicious! The steak was good and people liked the crab pasta dish. Our waitress was very good.
The food was amazing. The environment was warm and cozy. Great place to meet friends in town. Could be noisy if there is a chatty group. But the food, service and overall home-welcome environment were just remarkable. Highly recommended.
High Street has consistently delivered a fantastic dining experience, with excellent food and a warm, attentative service. We found this place earlier this year and it has become our go to for any special occasions. Tonight was no exceptions. Each course was just the right size, and every item on the plate wonderfully flavored. We will always feel at home at High Street.
The restaurant week special was outstanding and the rose wine was delicious.
The hanger steak was excellent, perfectly prepared! Limited menu, however nice choices.
Amazing food. Great ambiance. Ate here and Vernick food and drink. This was by far far better. Real and creative cooking that’s just delicious. I’ve traveled extensively in Italy and I had one of the best pastas ever here.
High Street used to be a favorite of ours and seemed to have gone a bit downhill lately but after last night's dining experience I don't think we will be back. The menu has the same level of creativity but the quality and execution (and service) just weren't there. We shared the fish and a mushroom pasta for our mains and the fish was overall very bland with a few spots that were way oversalted. The pasta itself was good but the amount of dried mushrooms used was off balance and it was overall kind of underwhelming compared to pastas we've previously had at High Street.
Hi Caitlin, Your specific feedback on the food is very helpful and appreciated. I am reaching out privately in hopes of gleaning few more insights from you about your service experience. Thank you. Best, Avery
Honestly, the service was unacceptable. We waited a little less than ten minutes to even be greeted, and then ended up waiting a total of 20 minutes after our reservation time. We were served WARM drinking water and NO bread...even though we sat literally right next to the bread station. Not that we needed it, but it was sort of an insult to see other tables being served bread and olive oil. I received my oyster course (which i ordered instead of drink) before anyone even started making my BF's drink (the first thing that was even ordered). After ten minutes (and half way through my oysters) we noticed our waitress ask the hostess to make the drink for her (which she should have pawned off ten minutes earlier). We painfully watched the slowest drink in history be made as the hostess kept stepping away to greet others. When the drink was finally completed, she left it at the pass...and by this time we had already been both served our appetizer course. We refused to begin eating out of precedence, and had to ask the hostess to give my BF his drink. Unacceptable to be served two courses before they could manage to make and serve one drink. My appetizer was horrible but the entre was great...even still I wouldn't return for that sort of service.
Jordan, Thank you for the feedback. I've reached out privately and hope to heard back from you. -Avery
Great restaurant, I am glad we picked it for restaurant week. I have a 12 year son that's nearing 13, they are not good with "different". Our server was excellent, she made him feel comfortable and still stayed professional with me and my husband. From the wine selection, appetizers to the dessert all the dishes were excellent. The bread with appetizers, was nice, crusty, and flavorful. I work in Center City Philadelphia , my plan is stop by for pastries and coffee before work one day. I also, told my husband I want to check out your breakfast or brunch. Thanks for the food, service and ambiance.
The service was extraordinary. My appetizer was unrecognizable except for the mega crispy cracker bits which accompanied the dish. It didn’t help that the restaurant was very dark. Both my husband and I ordered “steak and potatoes” as a main course. The meat was very tough and lacked a memorable flavor. The shoestring potatoes were a joke. Imagine a bird’s nest of straw, if you will. That was the appearance and texture of these shoestring potatoes. It was hardly a side dish and could have been used better as a garnish on any other vegetable. I had the ice cream for dessert. It was delicious but the portion was minuscule.
Exceptional service and food. Really felt like a steal coming in for our first experience during restaurant week.
Very trendy restaurant. Definitely for foodies!! Not for the meat and potatoes crowd. Service is a little slow.
Food was very good. Nice presentation. My husband is a picky eater and he enjoyed the food. The baratta was excellent.
Most of our small plates and meals were very good. Beer can chicken came out raw for two of us. They replaced with a new entree and didn't charge us for either which was nice. Service was oddly inattentive at times which was surprising given the amount of staff. Ordered a dessert cocktail and they forgot it. Just felt unpolished given the price point and ambiance.
Heard great things and was not disappointed! Awesome food and cocktails!
The chef is amazing.
I’ve wanted to come here since they opened a few (or more) years ago. It was everything I wanted and more! Get the smoked oysters, they will change your life. No where in Philly have I encountered these when eating, even at the well known steak and seafood houses. Though the menu is smaller than most restaurants, there isn’t a poorly executed dish in the place. Service was great-leaving our table alone for long periods of time to allow for uninterrupted conversation and only interjecting at the correct times. We were the first table there and the last one to leave. I will be back very soon.
We sat outside this evening at High Street and enjoyed a wonderful dinner. The staff was all attentive and wonderful, yet not overbearing. I look forward to returning to Hight Street on Market.
We did our weekly date night! The pizza was amazing! You guys should do it more often.
Pizza pop-up was extremely cute (checkered tablecloths included!) and extremely tasty.
Parents in town. The short rib was fantastic and their bread was amazing.
We have had lunch here many times, but this was our first dinner. It was really fabulous. Like Fork, their sister restaurant, they use really fresh, seasonal ingredients. We started with a tempura soft-shell crab accompanied by a lovely melon salad. It was cooked to perfection. Other starter was burrata accompanied by a similar melon salad. Also delish. For main, we had the sword fish special accompanied by super healthy and delicious grains and greens, and a lovely avocado sauce. Also perfectly prepared. Other main was the beer can chicken with a to die-for mac 'n cheese (not actually mac, but better.) Sublime. We took half the chicken home and reheated it in the oven next day, and it was still succulent. Delicious, creative cocktails too! Wait staff is friendly and attentive without hovering. My only complaint is the prices are a bit high for such a casual place, as compared to Fork, but the food is of such high quality that it's a quibble.
