Perfect Valentine’s Day dinner
Excellent delicious food..fresh and creative. Wine by the glass choice were top notch. I ate at the bar, Emily was great. Noise level was ok since it was a snowy evening and the restaurant was half full. It may be noisy when full.
Our meal was outstanding. Truly a standout in Philadelphia. The service was warm but scattered. No bread was offered, horseradish for the prime rib we only learned about by seeing the table next to us receive it and then we were brought our check but charged for another table's check. This was corrected but reflective of a level of inattention to detail inconsistent with the quality of the food.
Great meal! prime rib Sunday is an awesome option!
The food was completely disappointing in every way. The service was incredible—Maggie is/was a dream. Lovely space. Such a juxtaposition. The food was greasy, over wrought, and nearly inedible. Bread was delicious, though! Strange~
Once again, High Street delivers as promised. Great casual upscale dining with enough of a variety to please everyone. Had great Brussels sprouts, brick chicken and of course, their bread is always the best!
Others enjoyed the mushroom appetizer, mussels, pasta entree and sardines appetizer.
Will be back for breakfast, lunch or another great dinner experience!
Steak plate a little too greasy, nice presentation
Very unique American fare with an excellent wine selection.
We visited this restaurant purely based on the reviews on OT. We were seated immediately, but so close to another couple, our entire conversation was heard and we heard theirs, it was like we were seated with them for dinner at the same table. We had the meats & cheese board which was just OK. We then ordered the branzino and the hanger steak to share. The fish was pretty good, but the steak, well we could not even chew it. We had to send it back, and when we did, we saw the chef point fingers at us and laugh and the manager on duty start cutting up and tasting our meal. We really felt uncomfortable. The way the restaurant is set up, the kitchen is all glass and in the eating area. Overall it was just a bad experience and the edible food we did have was definitely not worth the prices.
We didn't notice the chef leave, but as we were walking out the chef was walking in with a can of beer and one of the waitresses laughed and made a comment to him about drinking it. I'm not sure if this was going on all evening? I simply cannot recommend this restaurant and we won't be returning.
Dinner was not prepared probably. They immediately brought me new entree and removed from the bill.
Had the pleasure of dining at High Street on Market during restaurant week. It was my first time there. The atmosphere was lively and casual. Service was attentive and freindly. The food was outstanding. I had the mussels which were very plump and juicy and the preparation was a bit different than what is the standard white wine version. This version was a hearty beer broth served with a dense grilled chunk of dark bread. YUMMY! The half grilled chicken was done to perfection with a crispy outer skin but moist tender inside. Top it off with the butterscotch pudding and you will not be disappointed! I will definately be back.
Went for restaurant week. The ambiance is really nice - very homey, but modern. The wait staff was also very nice and efficient. The food was all good, but not exceptional and the portions were a little skimpy.
Our food was delicious, but the portions were on the small side. I didn't walk away hungry, and the entree portion was fine, but both the appetizer and the tiny scoop of ice cream for dessert were skimpy and unsatisfying.
Enjoyed our meal during restaurant week
Came in for Restaurant Week and was absolutely blown away by every aspect of our meal. Our server was unbelievably wonderful, she was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and was able to help myself and another diner who were gluten-free navigate the menu. We were surprised to find that just about everything on the menu could be made gluten-free - even the pasta! Every dish we ate seemed incredibly simple but was taken over the top by execution. My hangar steak melted in my mouth and the broccoli was perfectly chargrilled and accented by dollops of herbaceous buttermilk. Brussel sprouts were crispy and had little surprises of slices of hot cherry peppers cooled down by lemony anchovy sauce. My dessert of chocolate peppermint ice cream had a surprise of a chocolate cookie at the bottom waiting to be cracked with a spoon. It was an A+ dining experience and I look forward to come back to High Street on Market!
On my first visit, unbeknownst to me it was restaurant week and so the Sunday night prime rib special was not available. The friends I had brought to the restaurant, who were visiting from out of town, liked the food a lot -- they have remarked on it several times since -- but I was kind of stuck on missing out on the prime rib. The restaurant was very understanding and went out of their way to make up for that experience. I returned another Sunday night for the prime rib I had been craving, and it was excellent. I plan to visit again in the future.
Do try the PA Old Fashioned cocktail as well!
The service was stellar. I really appreciated how knowledgeable the staff was. But, the food didn’t live up to the hype. I had a mushroom broth dish that couldn’t decide if it was a soup or salad. Lukewarm mushroom broth (that more closely resembled a gravy than broth), was served along side salad greens dressed in vinegar. Had it been served in a bowl that held temperature well (porcelain or ceramic, for example), I could see it being more of a soup with wilted greens. But, there was so much acidity and salt on the greens, the dish lost any semblance of being a soup and became more salad like. Only there was way too much liquid (the viscous mushroom “broth” that wasn’t a broth, but a gravy) to be a salad. All in all, the appetizer was a mess. My entree of papardelle noodles wasn’t much better. The pasta was over cooked and the sauce was way too acidic and way too salty.
The wine list was well thought out. The staff knew their stuff. The bread they make is really tasty. (Or whomever makes their bread, it was great. I could have made a meal out of that with some cheeses and charcuterie.) But for the prices, I’m really disappointed.
Awesome experience, great waiter, very knowledgeable about the menu, and he gave great recommendations and was super attentive. I had the half-chicken which was delicious, and he recommended the butterscotch pudding for dessert which was to die for! Snowstorm cocktail was also interesting and enjoyable choice. Very upbeat place with delicious and interesting menu items and excellent service. Highly recommend!
Great food, great service. Malfatti was incredible
Interesting food, especially vegetable dishes, excellent service and nice atmosphere. Highly recommend the Brussels Sprouts, mixed vegetables with chow, chow, burrata with apples, ricotta pasta and the branzino.
Cool farm to table next to Fork
Top notch. Will return.
I usually find the food here really good. However, this time the ragu was just ok. My friend found his food a little oily. However, the brussels sprouts was terrific as was the whisky.
I would have given this restaurant 5 stars for the food if it had not been over salted. I had the ricotta gnocchi and it was superb except for too much salt! My sister had the brick chicken and felt the exact same way.
Seems like a terrible mistake for a fine restaurant.
One can always add salt but just can't take it away.
Everything was amazing! I have been here for lunch a few times before and loved it, and my dinner experience was just as exceptional. I will be back soon!
Went here for a friend's birthday on a Wednesday night. The restaurant was busy but not completely full. The wait staff was and food was amazing. Would definitely go back.
Prime rib Sundays is amazing
Food and service was excellent! Inventive and fun menu, great atmosphere.
Great Food, Great Staff.
Great meal and the server was very respectful of our business conversation.
What a fantastic dining experience. Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere. If you try one thing - make it the scrapple. It will make you rethink a unique, Philly food. Sooooo Good!
The food here is fantastic and our waiter was so friendly and helpful with details of menu items. We went for dinner and I can't wait to go back and check out the breakfast/lunch menu! Good variety of small and large plates. We were even given a little cookie on our way out the door - nice touch!
The Sunday Prime Rib dinner is a real bargain at $35. Our prime ribs were perfectly cooked. We love the baked potato bar with all the creative toppings.
Awesome food, bread and drinks. Perfect ambiance.
We had small plate oysters which were local and delicious, the brats salad with sautéed apples was wonderful, and wedge salad was plentiful and beautifully presented. The entrees were msgroon malfatti and trout with roasted potatoes. Hand crafted specialty cocktails were perfect. Service was great with knowledgeable and friendly wait staff.A definite return trip is warranted.
I thought the food was good though a little salty for my taste.
I had the best pumpkin ice-cream here. The wine was classy, service was great, food was exquisite!!
