Higgins Restaurant & Bar
Higgins is always outstanding. It is and will be our go to for the really special occasions.
A wonderful birthday dinner for my wife. A pure pleasure.
Always a complete pleasure to dine at Higgins. We had an out of town business associate who appreciates great food and wine. We wanted to treat them to NW fare at its best and as always, a superb experience!
The food was fabulous. I had roasted vegetable risotto and each bite was wonderful. Our service was not good. Despite a reservation, we waited 20 minutes as our table was not yet empty. Then the waiter came by 15 minutes later to take our order. My experiences before have always included great food and perfect service. It was a special birthday meal and we were disappointed.
I made a reservation online for the bar. We were placed in a quiet location against the wall which I appreciated as opposed to a table by the door. We split a green salad with hazelnuts and blue cheese, a vegetable tart and the " Pig Plate". The pig plate had a slice of tender and perfectly cooked pork loin, a pork belly, a slice of thick bacon and a pork sausage over roasted fingerling potatoes. Desert was warm gingerbread with vanilla ice cream. They had run out of the rum raisin which was fine with me as I prefer vanilla. We also had spiced chocolate pudding with Chantilly cream. It was a very good meal, a nice atmosphere in which we could hear each other speak. Higgins is a lovely old Portland place to go to for any occasion.
We celebrated a birthday and had wonderful food and service. Our waiter had been there since Higgins opened and answered all our questions about the food. A great time!
My companion and I shared the Brussels spout appetizer, which was disappointing - mushy and tasteless. Everything else, though, was delicious - beet salad, mussels and ling cod. Great service at the bar.
Wonderful juxaposition of flavors and textures! Unique use of ingredients and beautiful presentation. Higgins showcases creativity and deep knowledge of local fare and tastes. The veteran servers add expertise with a bit of fun. Congrats to Greg and all the staff for staying at the top of your game for 30 years!
I was very excited when I entered the restaurant - the ambience was great. I also excitedly ordered from the menu, but the good was extremely disappointing - dry and flavorless. My companion was also disappointed in her food. I will not return.
Higgins was awesome as usual, with knowledgeable waiters and great local food and drink!
We had a lovely lunch at Higgins. The dining room retains its 1994 ambience, which I personally dig. The food was very good - I had a pork and duck terrine sandwich that was nice. The cranberry apple pandowdy for dessert was a highlight. Service was excellent.
Would 100% go again.
Higgins seems to be from the outside and interesting Portland Bistro with Northwest accent. However I personally found the food extremely lacking in quality and flavor and execution. One Shining point about Higgins was the service from numerous waitstaff and Care in wine and wine service. It was fun to interact with the numerous waiters about different wines that were available and the restaurant as well as Portland in general. Service far exceeds the food quality.
Always such an enjoyable evening. Perhaps the best service in town!
HIggins Restaurant is always outstanding. We recommend it to anyone who asks where to dine in Portland.
It's our go-to restaurant for celebrations and regular dinners alike. Now a Portland institution, it has never lost its innovative edge nor its commitment to local farmers. Wonderful!
Celebration of fruits of the forest to benefit the James Beard market was wonderful. Have been enjoying this short season offering for 21+ years. I’m always pleased at the creative incorporation of wild mushrooms into a menu. And of course the accompanying local wines, consistently outstanding, too. The service is friendly, professional and attentive. It remains my favorite classy restaurant.
The waiter was knowledgeable and charming and the food was excellent. Fun evenjng
Kami did an excellent job of describing the menu & giving recommendations. Very good food!
The 5 course mushroom meal was delightful and one of the best meals I have had in the city.
The service was spot on and perfectly timed.
Higgins out did themselves this time.
Higgins was terrific. The food was fabulous, the service was better than fabulous, and the table was quiet and comfortable. One thing I would recommend, though, is to NOT bring children. The staff knocked themselves out to make my 6-year-old granddaughter comfortable and find something she would eat, but the menu just isn't really geared for children.
This Portland institution deserves its stellar reputation and long-standing popularity (since 1994). Menu ranges from Italian-influenced to excellent fish/meat offerings--everything locally sourced and delicious. My husband ordered the dry-aged rib-eye steak, which he (a steak-lover) proclaimed the best he has ever eaten; I ordered duck confit, which is customarily comes with breast and leg; when I told server I preferred dark meat, I was graciously provided with two legs instead of the breast--exquisite and perfectly cooked and seasoned. Higgins is renowned for its craft beer list and also offers a large wine selection featuring Oregon's excellent wines. A delightful evening--we could not get restaurant seats as our reservation was made on short notice, but dining in the bar is great, too--comfortable and lively.
Delicious! Though it was pricey, the portions were just right. Glass choices for Pinot were limited, and not the one I would have ordered had I had more options. The restaurant was cold. The service was excellent, and timed perfectly. I would return anytime.
Everything was so perfect, as well as our server Raymond. He was kind and thoughtful, for he brought out two cookies with candles for our 1 yr anniversary. The pork was delicious and turned into butter in my mouth. The price was at no concern to me because the food and service was so excellent and beyond my expectations. I will come back and be a dedicated guest and fan of Higgins. Thank you for making one important night seem like a dream come true.
The food was outstanding, although a bit spicier than we expected. Service was outstanding and the waiter was very helpful and accommodating. Lovely spot!
I love Higgins bar! Great spot for after work drink and a bite. The food is very good. Make sure to pay attention when you order/hear about specials as you can order for main dining menu in the bar and prices vary greatly between the two.
Wonderful as always. Great service, friendly and helpful but not intrusive, no rushing even though it was nearing closing. Food was excellent; waiter gave good descriptions and recommendations.
The four of us all enjoyed our meals, the setting and high quality of service.
Well. We were able to get a last-minute reservation no problem. On a Saturday night. That should have told us something to begin with.
The ambiance was very nice. Took the staff a little longer than I would have liked to come and greet us once we were seated. It was after 9pm. So one would have thought that perhaps we might be “hungry?”
The server was polite, but aloof. And the overview of the evenings specials was nice - we ordered two of those and two other entrees along with soup and the Caprese Salad special for the evening.
My steak was bland and slightly over cooked. No flavor whatsoever. I had to add salt to everything. The carrots were just crispy enough. And the fingerling potatoes had some sort of spice that made them taste sweet. Not sure what that was all about. Not worth the $37 or 47 I paid for it at all.
My son ordered the Tuna special - his words: “It was just plain BORING.” And not worth $27 or 37. Just didn’t make any kind of positive impression on us.
The vegan dish - root veggies and carrots - was pretty good, but for $18.00?
We had high expectations to say the least. But were disappointed.
Not worth the over $225 spent for a family of four with one glass of wine.
Top notch food. The best service in town. Extensive wine and beer list. Excellent!
The food was great but the noise level was too high!!!
Anniversary with excellent service out waiter from Australia
We ate at the bar and Brandan the bartender was great!
It’s always perfect there. Ambience. Food. And Service. Love this place
As always, Higgins is very dependable, you can also expect a get a high level of service, great presentation and always delicious food. The mussels were yummy and toned down on the spice especially for me.
Our entire group had a fantastic meal here, from appetizers all the way through dessert and after dinner drinks. Service is truly outstanding as well. Can't recommend highly enough.
I ordered one of the evening's specials - the seafood entree. Unfortunately, the salmon was overcooked (dry actually) the vegetables were luke warm and also overcooked (charred in places).
Service was great but the food lacked seasoning. You could tell the kitchen has technique, but needs to use salt and pepper!
Classic Portland, amazing food, incredible service! Not ideal for kids, but they accommodated by 11 year old with a simple pasta and cheese entree and we very kind to him. Otherwise, menu is not for kids. If you seek the famous burger, you must sit in bar, they won't serve it in dining room.
You must order charcuterie, amazing.
Our experience was pleasant: the cocktails were delicious; the food was good, if a bit unremarkable; the service was timely and efficient.
the Meal was very good from start to finish, the portion size large but not overwhelming and the quality of the food was excellent, i would recommend it to anyone looking for fine dining at a cozy, busy restaurant. The list of wine and cocktails both impressive and intriguing. We did not have dessert.
We were a party of eight, and had a nice table with good service. Good variety of choices. When we divided the check at the end of the night, we found the price to be quite reasonable. Would recommend to others and would certainly return as well.
