Higgins Restaurant & Bar
As always, Higgins is very dependable, you can also expect a get a high level of service, great presentation and always delicious food. The mussels were yummy and toned down on the spice especially for me.
Our entire group had a fantastic meal here, from appetizers all the way through dessert and after dinner drinks. Service is truly outstanding as well. Can't recommend highly enough.
I ordered one of the evening's specials - the seafood entree. Unfortunately, the salmon was overcooked (dry actually) the vegetables were luke warm and also overcooked (charred in places).
Service was great but the food lacked seasoning. You could tell the kitchen has technique, but needs to use salt and pepper!
Classic Portland, amazing food, incredible service! Not ideal for kids, but they accommodated by 11 year old with a simple pasta and cheese entree and we very kind to him. Otherwise, menu is not for kids. If you seek the famous burger, you must sit in bar, they won't serve it in dining room.
You must order charcuterie, amazing.
Our experience was pleasant: the cocktails were delicious; the food was good, if a bit unremarkable; the service was timely and efficient.
the Meal was very good from start to finish, the portion size large but not overwhelming and the quality of the food was excellent, i would recommend it to anyone looking for fine dining at a cozy, busy restaurant. The list of wine and cocktails both impressive and intriguing. We did not have dessert.
We were a party of eight, and had a nice table with good service. Good variety of choices. When we divided the check at the end of the night, we found the price to be quite reasonable. Would recommend to others and would certainly return as well.
Classy old school. Delicious shellfish stew. Charlie great waiter
Great food, thoughtfully prepared. Service is great and friendly. We felt like a welcomed guest.
Higgins is the epitome of Portland dining: Casual but elegant, diverse group of diners, great service, intimate dining spaces, great seasonal food. Always a good choice for lunch, diner or drinks. And has been for years!!!
The food was amazing and the service was excellent. We had two salads and four entrees. Each one was very tasty, particularly the seafood stew and pork loin.
I love the food at Higgins, but the bar area is not a pleasant place for a single woman to have dinner on a Saturday night. I wanted a nice dinner before going to the theater nearby. I expect they seated me in the bar because I was only one person, but it was noisy, crowded and not pleasant like the dining room. I will go some place else in future when I want to eat alone.
Exceptional food, service, and ambiance. We’re already planning a return visit!
Over rated, expensive for that part of town. Riding on their reputation perhaps? Snooty waiter, because we ordered just an appetizer and a drink.
Sorry Pdx, tine someone told the truth.
Wonderful restaurant, food, and staff
Great service! It is always a pleasure to dine with you.
We thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance, excellent waiter and perfectly prepared food and wonderful wine. We are looking forward to returning again soon.
Food was excellent as is the wine list and other drinks. Our server was very interesting to talk to and just the right level of attentiveness.
This was our second visit and I'm sure we'll return when we are in town.
Good place to grab a drink and some bar food before a show. Wouldn't spend much money here though.
Excellent food and service was particularly top notch.
The waiter was incredibly knowledgeable regarding the menu and the ingredients as well as the techniques used to prepare the dishes. The meal as always was spectacular and we will be back.
Our dinner was exquisite, as one expects from Higgins. My all-time favorite Portland restaurant for over 20 years.
The restaurant food did not meet the expectations of what I had heard or read about Higgins, I would not eat there again.
We visit Higgins once a year during our visit to Portland. Higgins is a short walk from our usual hotel, and the food is excellent. We will definitely continue to have Higgins as our "special dinner" location in Portland.
The food and service were impeccable. Attention to detail with the food was next level. Never disappointed from appetizers, to main course, to desserts. Even choices of draft beer was outstanding. The Shea wine with dinner a delight.
Excellent Service for a very poor food quality.
Best lunch in Portland. The Higgins hamburger is the best in the city. Drinks are strong and meant for true Portland citizens.
“Pepper salsa verde” with pork was overpowering. Could not taste the pork.
Waiter poured first glass of sparkling water and Elk Cove pinto noir. The remainder of the meal I poured every glass - not expect this lack of service from this establishment. Had to ask for an ice bucket for the champagne - really?
Have enjoyed Higgins since the year it opened. I am hopeful that this is not indicative of where this great restaurant is headed?
Very nice service and good food, along with a great spicy Bloody Mary for a couples birthday dinner.
John, our server, made our evening PERFECT! Lovely table for two next to the window started us out with a big smile. John followed up with impeccable service paired with divine offerings from the chef. Perfection!
They accommodated a huge group at last minute (17 of us!) and were extremely helpful. Good and service was fantastic. Everyone in my group raves about it!!
Wonderful meal with freshest NW ingredients. Ate in the Back Room, which has warm, cozy feel and very attentive service from outstanding, long term wait staff. Kennedy was our waiter, and she was fabulous. Enjoyed fresh Chinook salmon and rib eye steak. Lovely burrata salad and excellent wine from Walla Walla Valley. Amuse bouche and dessert were on the house, in celebration of our anniversary. Extensive wine/beer/spirit list with many local and international options. A long time favorite of ours, and a place we will visit again and again. A Portland institution not to be missed!!!!
Very lovely - will return!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had a delicious meal, the heirloom tomato buratta was exquisite. It's meant to be shared. My partner had duck with huckleberry sauce, he felt it rivaled his favorite duck from the Vermont Inn in Killington, Vermont. I had the salmon special. Yum. We opted for Tom Collins drinks instead of wine...our hotel was serving them earlier in the night...and staying with that theme rounded out the meal. Ended with a BlackBerry peach crumble. Life doesn't get much better.
Not a fluke that this place has been in business for as long as it has and that the staff, many original, are all still here serving wonderful cuisine to its old and new patrons. Had the Tomato burrata salad, Salmon special, and the duck, all exceptional, and paired up well with our Domaine Drouhin Pinot. Would absolutely come back here and highly recommend this to anyone visiting Portland. Another plus was it’s just a pleasant walk from the Nines Hotel!
Excellent restaurant for a special occasion! Expensive but mostly worth the cost.
Food was delicious and service was top notch. The chocolate moose was the best I have ever had.
Enjoyed the in season heirloom tomato salad and regular menu duck. Food was delicious. John our server was a delight and offered three very good wine pairings to compliment the meal.
We were delighted with the staff who greeted and seated us in the Bistro. Gin & Tonic was to die for. Each selection was cooked and plated perfection, and the portions were just right. Desserts were tempting, but we were sated. The lights were turned down during our meal, and it wasn’t until we stepped out that we understood why—so people didn’t step out from bright interior lights to night blindness on the sidewalk.
