Higgins Restaurant & Bar
I never get tired of Higgins’ quality food, omniscient waitstaff and comfortable atmosphere. It is a local treasure.
Higgins is my go to restaurant for entertaining my clients and professional associates. When I make a reservation I know that everything will be excellent. It is by far my favorite restaurant in Portland. I have never had a bad experience!
The oyster gratin and the sweet potato and mushroom samosas were delicious.
Excellent food and service. One of the top 2-3 restaurants in Portland.
Was at Higgins on 12/5 and dinner and cocktails were great. Higgins never disappoints.
Some of the best food in Portland. Beautiful presentation, elegant but not stuffy. Nice ambiance yet not too loud.
Higgins goes strong as always.
Very professional service and great food. Perfect timing for our Schnitzer event.
The sidecar is divine!
As always Higgins delivered on all fronts: great service, excellent food, perfect setting for a wonderful dining experience.
Always a perfect night out for us. Exceeds expectations.
Great food and service. We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at Higgins!
I had the sole, and the buerre blanc sauce was watery. My husband had the beef special, and it upset his stomach. We normally love Higgins, but truly an off night. Oh, they competed our wine since the waiter forgot to bring till our entrees arrived.
Higgins is a little spendy, but the food is well worth it.
My wife and I always enjoy a visit to Higgins. On this occasion, enjoyable overall, I was confused by the inviting description of what was in fact a rather straightforward pulled pork sandwich. Rillettes de Porc? Yes, I suppose so. The servers were personable and competent. The dining room is one of the most congenial we have experienced.
This was my second time at Higgins. The first was also purely wonderful. I remember raving about the salad dressing. It had the perfect balance of salt, oil and acid. It inspired me to find how to make better dressing.
Our second visit was still nice but the food quality and flavors were disappointing. The salad greens had browned stems and there didn’t seem to be any dressing on it at all. I had the lentil fritters (aka falafel) and they were dry and dull. My Mediterranean deli counter does a better job balancing flavors and textures. Maybe next time, Higgins!
Our latest dinner at Higgins (11-18-2019) was wonderful, as usual. The razor clams were exceptional.
We return to Higgins whenever we visit Portland. It is consistent in food quality and service and we have never been disappointed.
The charcuterie is the best I have ever had. Be sure to save room for the berry cobbler.
Convenient location for shows. Portions were sizable, but food was just okay. Dessert was good (apple cranberry tart). Service was on point and made the overall experience enjoyable.
Higgins is always outstanding. It is and will be our go to for the really special occasions.
The seafood screw had very little seafood and the rib eye was tough- Prices seemed high!
A wonderful birthday dinner for my wife. A pure pleasure.
Always a complete pleasure to dine at Higgins. We had an out of town business associate who appreciates great food and wine. We wanted to treat them to NW fare at its best and as always, a superb experience!
The food was fabulous. I had roasted vegetable risotto and each bite was wonderful. Our service was not good. Despite a reservation, we waited 20 minutes as our table was not yet empty. Then the waiter came by 15 minutes later to take our order. My experiences before have always included great food and perfect service. It was a special birthday meal and we were disappointed.
I made a reservation online for the bar. We were placed in a quiet location against the wall which I appreciated as opposed to a table by the door. We split a green salad with hazelnuts and blue cheese, a vegetable tart and the " Pig Plate". The pig plate had a slice of tender and perfectly cooked pork loin, a pork belly, a slice of thick bacon and a pork sausage over roasted fingerling potatoes. Desert was warm gingerbread with vanilla ice cream. They had run out of the rum raisin which was fine with me as I prefer vanilla. We also had spiced chocolate pudding with Chantilly cream. It was a very good meal, a nice atmosphere in which we could hear each other speak. Higgins is a lovely old Portland place to go to for any occasion.
We celebrated a birthday and had wonderful food and service. Our waiter had been there since Higgins opened and answered all our questions about the food. A great time!
My companion and I shared the Brussels spout appetizer, which was disappointing - mushy and tasteless. Everything else, though, was delicious - beet salad, mussels and ling cod. Great service at the bar.
Wonderful juxaposition of flavors and textures! Unique use of ingredients and beautiful presentation. Higgins showcases creativity and deep knowledge of local fare and tastes. The veteran servers add expertise with a bit of fun. Congrats to Greg and all the staff for staying at the top of your game for 30 years!
I was very excited when I entered the restaurant - the ambience was great. I also excitedly ordered from the menu, but the good was extremely disappointing - dry and flavorless. My companion was also disappointed in her food. I will not return.
Higgins was awesome as usual, with knowledgeable waiters and great local food and drink!
We had a lovely lunch at Higgins. The dining room retains its 1994 ambience, which I personally dig. The food was very good - I had a pork and duck terrine sandwich that was nice. The cranberry apple pandowdy for dessert was a highlight. Service was excellent.
Would 100% go again.
Higgins seems to be from the outside and interesting Portland Bistro with Northwest accent. However I personally found the food extremely lacking in quality and flavor and execution. One Shining point about Higgins was the service from numerous waitstaff and Care in wine and wine service. It was fun to interact with the numerous waiters about different wines that were available and the restaurant as well as Portland in general. Service far exceeds the food quality.
Always such an enjoyable evening. Perhaps the best service in town!
HIggins Restaurant is always outstanding. We recommend it to anyone who asks where to dine in Portland.
It's our go-to restaurant for celebrations and regular dinners alike. Now a Portland institution, it has never lost its innovative edge nor its commitment to local farmers. Wonderful!
Celebration of fruits of the forest to benefit the James Beard market was wonderful. Have been enjoying this short season offering for 21+ years. I’m always pleased at the creative incorporation of wild mushrooms into a menu. And of course the accompanying local wines, consistently outstanding, too. The service is friendly, professional and attentive. It remains my favorite classy restaurant.
The waiter was knowledgeable and charming and the food was excellent. Fun evenjng
Kami did an excellent job of describing the menu & giving recommendations. Very good food!
The 5 course mushroom meal was delightful and one of the best meals I have had in the city.
The service was spot on and perfectly timed.
Higgins out did themselves this time.
Higgins was terrific. The food was fabulous, the service was better than fabulous, and the table was quiet and comfortable. One thing I would recommend, though, is to NOT bring children. The staff knocked themselves out to make my 6-year-old granddaughter comfortable and find something she would eat, but the menu just isn't really geared for children.
This Portland institution deserves its stellar reputation and long-standing popularity (since 1994). Menu ranges from Italian-influenced to excellent fish/meat offerings--everything locally sourced and delicious. My husband ordered the dry-aged rib-eye steak, which he (a steak-lover) proclaimed the best he has ever eaten; I ordered duck confit, which is customarily comes with breast and leg; when I told server I preferred dark meat, I was graciously provided with two legs instead of the breast--exquisite and perfectly cooked and seasoned. Higgins is renowned for its craft beer list and also offers a large wine selection featuring Oregon's excellent wines. A delightful evening--we could not get restaurant seats as our reservation was made on short notice, but dining in the bar is great, too--comfortable and lively.
Delicious! Though it was pricey, the portions were just right. Glass choices for Pinot were limited, and not the one I would have ordered had I had more options. The restaurant was cold. The service was excellent, and timed perfectly. I would return anytime.
Everything was so perfect, as well as our server Raymond. He was kind and thoughtful, for he brought out two cookies with candles for our 1 yr anniversary. The pork was delicious and turned into butter in my mouth. The price was at no concern to me because the food and service was so excellent and beyond my expectations. I will come back and be a dedicated guest and fan of Higgins. Thank you for making one important night seem like a dream come true.
