Higgins Restaurant & Bar
Fantastic Chinook Salmon, delicious Ciopino, and a very nice dry French rose from Provence. Delightful service. We did not taste, but an extensive beer list was presented.
Excellent food and service. Highly recommend.
Wonderful spot to grab a nice white table cloth lunch in Downtown Portland!
A wonderful overall dining experience. Excellent, attentive service with perfect timing, outstanding food that is artfully presented. Could not be happier!
Outstanding food and service start to finish. Great salads to share, Greek seafood stew, salmon.
The menu was excellent, with many great choices. The food was cooked and prepared excellently (the salmon was soooo smooth and creamy), and the service was correspondingly excellent. The dish portions were good (not skimpy). Other patrons were noisier than I'd expect from this classy a place, and it was difficult to talk to each other without speaking loud enough for other tables to hear, but otherwise we loved it!
Server brought the bottle of wine but didn't open it. Had to flag someone. Steaks were a bit too charred on the outside for medium well. Given the prices, we expect perfect. Everything else was great - various fish, soup, and salad dishes and fresh bread nicely done. Wine list good, although our selection of a Caymus chardonnay was out.
Higgins has been one of my favorite Portland restaurants for years. Service top notch and food quality is exceptional. Higgins was on the forefront of the farm to table movement and uses incredibly fresh and seasonal ingredients. The wine list and drink menu are also topnotch. I highly recommend it for any event, including business lunches and dinners.
Great dishes made from fresh local ingredients. Waiter was very knowledgeable and helpful.
One of the best pieces of salmon I’ve ever eaten. Food was fantastic and the longtime waiter was attentive and perfect. Love this restaurant.
Great food with incredible service.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at a dinner for the two of us, and it was wonderful. The food was excellent - perfectly prepared - and the service was very attentive. This was our third time eating at Higgins, and we have enjoyed it every time. I had the smoked salmon salad & the Thai curry soup (soup of the day). My husband had lamb. We also shared the baretta appetizer, which is excellent. Higgins also has a good wine list, and the bread is delicious. Highly recommend.
Everything was just great!! The service was terrific and all our dishes were outstanding. I had an olive topped halibut in a potato saffron sauce that could not have been better. The tomato burrata salad was seasonal perfection. The meal ended with a nectarine pie with a crust from heaven. The waitress was totally professional. We will be back.
Great meal, and great service!
Delicious clams as an appetizer. Halibut, Duck & Chef’s special meat were all top notch. The wine and cocktails (recommended by the waiter) were perfectly suited to our meal. It was a little chilly when we arrived. We requested a little less cool and the staff accommodated us immediately. One of the original farm to table, inspired chef restaurants in Portland & remains so today. Highly recommend.
Excellent food and service, but expensive and a little noisy the night we were there. However, I have been to this restaurant several times and always enjoy it. The shellfish was particularly delicious.
This was a business lunch with guests from China who were all in the U. S. for the first time. Three of the four ordered the burger, and they loved it. The wide variety of menu choices means that everyone can find something to their taste.
We have been going to Higgins for 10+ years and decided it was the only place special enough to Celebrate our 30th anniversary. We have never had anything less than excellence in absolutely every aspect of Dining at Higgins. Their Food, Wine, Cocktails, Ambiance, and Service well above and beyond expectation, Every single time we have ever been. In a word... Exceptional!
We had such high hopes!!! Dinner reservations for 4, with 90 minutes before we had to be at the theatre. What could go wrong? Well, our waiter was AWESOME! He had fabulous wine recommendations and was so kind. Our first course was delivered within 15 minutes. SPOT ON!!! Then, things fell apart. It took more than 40 minutes to get our entree, which left us with only 10 minutes to slam it down....not the way to enjoy an amazing meal. We had scheduled a dual birthday—my 90 year old mother and her 17 year old grandchild....so no one got dessert. We BARELY made it to the theatre, and no one got to eat more than about half their meal—we almost had to leave without dinner! I know Higgins can do better, and when we were watching people who came after we were seated leave before we even had food, something went wrong. Something went really wrong....and while our waiter was charming, awesome and tried to make up for it, we shouldn’t have to wait 40 minutes for an entree....
Higgins, you got more than this. Can we try again?
Food ok, server was great. Tacky to charge $2.50 for bread on a $100 food and drink bill.
I have a hearing problem, so I asked Higgins for quiet-as-possible seating. Lunchtime is especially challenging, as the restaurant is not large, and the echoes of other voices can make it difficult for me to hear my table partner. The result of my request was the best seat I’ve ever found for a hearing impaired person in any restaurant. I memorized the table number, so next time I make a reservation, I’ll ask for that table. Thank you, Higgins.
Great food and excellent service. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Wonderful quiet Sunday evening, and as billed, the food and service was superb. We were a table of four and sat next to a table of four all from out of town and all 8 agreed that the food and service was of the highest quality. A quiet Sunday may have helped but the service was understated, attentive and just right. The same group will pass back through Portland in a week and are tempted to do it again, despite all the options Portland has to offer.
We had a wonderful time at Higgins. The wait staff was friendly, very professional and knew their stuff. Food was fabulous and the salmon was perfectly cooked.
As always, the food and service were superb. One of the finest restaurants in city.
Excellent service and wonderful food. We ordered the halibut and it was so moist and flavorful.
We go to Higgins on each visit to downtown Portland. Unlike many of the downtown trendy spots, this one satisfies in a traditional sense with great food and service. Nice to visit a place frequented by locals and especially the arts center devotees. Consider the evening specials. We have never been disappointed.
As always the food was delicious. Our table ordered the special risotto, special pasta dish and two orders of the steamed mussels. Have never been disappointed in Higgens since the day it opened. The sommelier is extremely knowledgeable and the wine list is exceptional. Go! You won't be disappointed .
Very noisy in the back room. Would stay in the lighter front room next time. Service was excellent. Mussels appetizer was superb, as was the duck main. The streak was disappointing as were thee accompanying turnips. Pricey
It was a nice time for me and my girlfriend. However it did end up costing me like $120.00! It’s ok, I’d just say if you could reduce the prices of the dinners THAT would be AMAZING! Just wanted to add that little tip from me to everybody at ‘Higgins’!
We had the Cod and the Salmon. As I told our server, my cod was better than the cod I had a month ago in Paris at €250. Also had a nice bottle of Chateauneuf-Du-Papé blanc.
The food was adequate
The table was too small
The water served my neighbor in front of my face with no excuse me
The food and service were outstanding. We went for a business lunch and truly enjoyed the atmosphere.
have eaten here several times over the last 20 years......they have maintained a high standard...….love the ambiance in this 3 tiered restaurant......very good wine list with some good values...…..highly recommended
Always a great place, but in the lower (north) dining room, anyway, very, very loud and chattery during lunch. Hard to hear and concentrate.
Higgins is a Portland, Oregon favorite of ours as their food is excellent and made of fresh organic ingredients. There are wonderful vegetarian options as well as seafood, and meat dishes. Each dish is done exquisitely well with a beautiful arrangement on the plate. The meal is filling and worth every penny. On my most recent trip I ordered a duck dish and it was a lot of duck; a combination of a duck leg with bone and sliced breast meat all done in its own juices. My wife had the cod and our friend had a vegetarian risotto. Thanks again for being our favorite Portland restaurant and we will do our best to revisit every time we're in town. We are huge fans!
Request has not made on a special day lunch.
Requested a day before for the lettering on a cake but didn't preprared.
We can always count on Higgins to have great food creatively prepared. It's our go-to restaurant for friends visiting from out of town.
Wonderful service from a fantastic waiter who is also their wine steward. He recommended an incredible French wine from off the list that was amazing. I had the baked beans and smoked pork loin and kielbasa (all housemade) that was probably one of the top five meals I’ve ever had...and the fact that I am saying that about a baked bean dish speaks volumes for the creativity of the chef! The pork loin was absolutely delicious and perfectly smoked. My companion had the salmon special with a butter raspberry sauce over homemade spatzle that was just amazing. Then topped it all off with homemade cherry pie with homemade sour cream vanilla ice cream and a smoked bacon caramel sauce...just a crazy good meal and overall dining experience! Highly recommend this Portland restaurant!
