Higgins Crab House - 128th Street Ratings and Reviews
DID THE ALL YOU CAN EAT CRAB AND CORN SPECIAL, CRABS WERE REALLY SMALL AND REALLY LIGHT, A LOT OF THEM WERE SOFT OR NOT GOOD AND WE WOULD GO THROUGH A TRAY OF THEM AND OUR SERVER WOULD TAKE A REALLY LONG TIME TO BRING US MORE....THE ONLY REDEEMING QUALITY, AND IT'S MINOR, IS THAT THEY HAD A PLAYGROUND THAT THE KIDS COULD PLAY ON WHILE WE SAT ON THE PORCH EATING.
First time at Higgins and was not impressed. When my party of 8 got there, the tables were beginning to clear out. Our waiter was friendly and apologized for any wait time and said they had been busy. There were no problems until after this point. Our side dishes came out first, with a pretty long wait in between for our entrees. We also asked about the crabs we ordered as an appetizer but never got before the meal. The waiter said they were still cooking. We ended up cancelling them since we were already finished with dinner by then!! Not sure what happened, but overall the night was, in a word, disorganized.
We went to Higgins on our beach vacation, and our entire party ordered the AYCE crab feast. Three added ribs, and one just did the crabs and shrimp version. Our six year old got the kids crab and chicken meal and loved it. The food was delicious. The crabs were the perfect flavor and the surrounding items were also outstanding. The drink refills came slowly and stalled our ability to keep eating for a bit, but once we got refills we were able to keep going. 2-3 hours well spent with family!
I take my family to Higgins in Ocean City for steamed crabs - a vacation tradition - and we've always been pleased with the food and the service; however, I was a little disappointed this year. While our server was extremely pleasant and aimed to please, my granddaughter cut her finger on a claw and we asked for a bandage. Our server, who didn't understand English very well, brought us invisible tape, but later found a bandage. As for the crabs, I ordered the large for $65/dozen and they were extremely light and hardly any meat in them at all. I gambled and ordered a second dozen (at $105/dozen) and they were heavy and full; however, I didn't expect to pay an additional $40 to get decent crabs. I told my server that I was disappointed and due to our language barrier, the conversation didn't go very far.
Went down to OCMD for a few days on vacation, and my fiance loves their all you can eat shrimp specials. And again, did not disappoint. Loved our experience here every time. And our server, a young man named Sam, was on his first night as a server, and did great. Job well done
Overall a poor meal. Been here 5 times and tonights meal was the worst. I got all you can eat blue crabs and two guests got alaskan crab legs. My. Blue crabs were horrible. Small. Mushy. Some were empty an brittle. Im betting they were frozen from last season.
The Alaskan crab legs were equally bad. Mushy and not very well prepared. So bad i wont be back again. Save your cash and go to Crab Bag. They never disappoint. And their crabs are the BEST.
I a went for the all you you can eat crab and shrimp . The crabs were not fresh and were smelly and dry .I was really very disappointed. For a place that gets 4.5 stars in review this place was quite bad. I was hoping to get some real fresh crabs with juicy meat and the brains oozing out .... sadly vey very disappointed .
The server told us they were out of the jumbo crabs and we had gone there for crabs alone. We ended up getting a dozen large crabs. They were simple delicious and full of lump crab meat. The old bay seasoning was just right. Some of the best crabs we had ever had. We also had the fried chicken and simply put, it must be a secret recipe, because it was really good. Our server was tremendous.
I read several reviews prior to making this reservation, some quite bad and some quite good. It's hard to get a feel for a place with so many reviews at both ends of the spectrum. But, it was close to where we were staying, we could get reservations and we wanted seafood. So, we decided to try Higgins. None of us were disappointed. Our server, Evan, was very good and attentive. Two of us got tacos, two got the Alaskan King Crab Leg Platter, one got all-you-can-eat crabs, and one got the Steamed Seafood Platter. The Crab legs were tasty but a tad over-done so they were harder to eat than they should have been but still quite good, and the two pounds was more than enough for one person. Our salads were good with nice and fresh greens. The corn on the cob was delicious. For seafood and the amounts, the prices weren't bad. There were 3 crying babies, which really didn't bother me too much, but one wailed non-stop for at least 10 minutes before another patron said something to the mom and dad. Reluctantly, about 5 minutes after that, the mom took the baby outside. Now, I have nothing against people bringing their babies and children out to dinner, but there has to be a little common sense when they get overly fussy. We would go back again.
Having been to Ocean City MD numerous times over the last few years I could not help noticing three Higgins crab Houses, so I picked this location at 128th Street and Ocean Hwy (or is it Coastal Hwy?). Anyway, we know they serve mainly crab dishes from king crab legs that you can order by the platter to crab cakes to crab soup to crab tacos. I tried the soft shell crab tacos which we just as I expected: crunchy, crabby, good. Yes, they were small, whole crabs you can eat because there were two that fit inside one taco. Also had the traditional Maryland crab soup (it has lots of veggies by the way) and a salad to round out the meal, washed all the crab stuff down with Dogfish Head beer where it is made in MD's neighbor to the north, Delaware. I went down to Ocean City for this particular reason while staying in Delaware, and my impression of Higgin's crab House is that it always invites you to try something new, like soft shell crab tacos.
I hAve been coming to OC for many years with my friends....it's a tradition of ours to ear all you an eat steam crabs. This time girlfriend and I got the corn and medium crabs for 30 bucks....which was awesome. Ate bout 14 steam crabs and two ears of corn. The crab was big, meaty, and fresh. Will be making Higgins our tradition for now on.
Seated right away. Ordered within 5 mins. Waited 45 mins for overdone crab cake and corn in the husk that was "smelly and old.
vegetables cold. Catfish was sautéed and ok. Seems like the place for steamed crabs only. No idea why this is even on the open table app. I consider this Open table app. to lend itself to higher end restaurants. not all you can consume buffet style grazing zones. Please remove these places, we found so many nicer restaurants in OC Maryland that aren't mentioned in your app.
Went there with my family recently while in OC (July 2016) and Higgins was recommend by a friend. My wife was looking for some good seafood and found the stuffed shrimp to be quite good. :-) Has a small playground out front for the kids to play around in and good for families.
So first, the positive. Our waitresses were helpful and hard working and comp'd items as necessary. The kids enjoyed the playground and while the portions were small (with the exception of the all u can eat orders), the food was fine. Not life changing, but good. The corn on the cob was delicious. With 16 in our party, we are used to being patient. I don't know what was going on in the kitchen, but it took a solid hour to get food. And then, only half of the entrees came. Two orders were completely wrong and had to be remade, which took forever. Almost everyone else had finished their meals by the time one of our guests received his grilled chicken salad. I ordered the crab, because I wanted to try a local favorite. While I can't imagine why people would want to work so hard for such a tiny amount of crab meat, I guess that isn't a reflection of the restaurant. But definitely not my thing. Not a great experience in the OC.
