The food was outstanding. The service was as good as the food. Will definitely go again very soon.
We were in town for our daughter’s BB tournament and decided to give this restaurant a try. I am of Puerto Rican descent and my husband of Guyanese descent so we are accustomed to Caribbean food. The appetizers of the Hibiscus Salad and the Hibiscus Sampler which included Coconut Shrimp, Jerk Chicken, Skewered Grilled Shrimp and Sea Scallops were very tasty. The Sea Scallops came out with a creamy risotto-like rice that was amazing! I had the oxtail which was good but just slightly hot. I like my food piping temperature hot like fresh from the pot off the stove hot. My hubby had the curry shrimp, daughter had curry chicken and roti, friend had the brown stew chicken. All were tasty...for dessert we all split a slice of the Jamaican Bread Pudding which was good.
This was our third visit with other couples and we have been equally delight every time. We also have tried different dishes every time and have liked everything equally but if you are not into spicy hot dishes you might want to be careful ordering anything with the word "jerk" in it.
I can recommend the mix starter. Three of us feasted on the version for two and it was an adequate start to our main meals.
Our serve was a native Jamaican which was a nice addition to the high quality of the attention we received..
The food at Hibiscus is authentic Jamaican cuisine. I honestly can't get enough of there curry goat. Let's not forget the seafood run down. It makes me feel as if I were back in Negril with my wife Miriam.
People don't take my word alone, get there and taste for yourselves.
Amazing friendly staff.
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE AMAZING FOOD
Went there some time ago with 7 people. The room was fully lit and looked like an abandoned office with no decorations whatsoever.
Promised jazz (that wasn’t even a jazz) was in the other, main room.
Orange juice we asked for was an oj powder mixed with water. Have you heard of restaurant cheap enough to serve powdered OJ? Neither did I.
Food was a buffet with nothing exciting to choose from.
Service was painfully slow and inattentive. We had to keep piling up dirty plates on the side of a table just to make some room. No server cared for those plates until the end of our meal.
I felt embarrassed for bringing my family there.
Excellent food, very good variety and fun environment!
Very pleasant Jamaica-themed restaurant in the basement of a hotel in Morristown. Really charming service, and the food was quite good. The jerk chicken is juicy and has an authentic kick to it. Oxtail was deep and dark and lovely. On some nights there is live jazz.
The food was FANTASTIC! Don’t let the location in the Best Western keep you away from enjoying this incredible food. Wait staff was friendly and prompt. The owner stopped by our table - she is lovely. Quirky and fun ambience. Such a great experience - did I mention the jerk chicken and beans and rice?? I will be back!
food great as usual...was not told that we were gonna be out after an hour and a half....paid 40.00..did not even get to have desert..because we had to leave for other patrons to be seated.....but all in all ok..i wud visit again..tx
Awesome food. They had a function that night that requires staff attention, but it was worth the extra wait.
The staff are very nice and the food is delicious.
One of best places to feel like your in Caribbean food and service great byob is a big plus
The food is delicious!! It’s in the basement of a Best Western, true, not particularly appealing; but do NOT let that deter you! It’s worth it! Go.
A little surprising gem of a restaurant located in the Best Western Hotel up South Street from the Mayo Art Center. (Not walking distance but easy access just a few minutes away with ample parking in hotel's parking lot and it's also right off of Rt. 287.) The dining room is simple in decoration but that is not anything to criticize. We were coming for the food! Hibiscus is a great place to go for moderately priced authentic Caribbean and traditional American fare before or after a show. Menu offerings are great - plenty of fish offerings and even vegan. Food is freshly prepared and quite flavorful. We ordered mainly Caribbean fare and were very happy with choices: braised oxtail (awesome!); Hibiscus sampler (yummy and spicy/sweet); crusted salmon and curried shrimp - all excellent with well prepared sides that weren't overcooked. Wait staff is very attentive. A lovely plus is live music for dining entertainment! (Not required, but don't forget to tip musician! He does a great job!) Since restaurant is small, would recommend making a reservation. We will definitely return to this place!
Hibiscus Restaurant is wonderful! Always a pleasant and delicious experience for any occasion.
Best dining room in the entire area. Lovely intimate room w/soft lighting creates the perfect atmosphere for enjoying a menu that caters nicely to all palates, accommodating staff, entertainment that permits good conversation while musicians playing. It's a treasure to discover and enjoy.
Sincerely, Sharon C
The service was fantastic. The chef is engaging and very easy on the eyes. Deadly combination.
This restaurant was a great find... easy to get to & centrally located, food was delicious & presented beautifully and the service was friendly & welcoming. Will definitely return!
Good food good music good service it was great overall my wife and I had a wonderful time. Planning to go back with my family
The greeter/waiter for our table could of been more welcoming..is as if she did not want to be there.other than that the food was excellent
Don't be turned off by the fact that this restaurant is in the basement of a Best Western -- it had some of the best food we've had in months, and a very reasonable price. Service was friendly and attentive without being annoying. There was live music on a Saturday night consisting of a steel drum player and even though we were seated right next to him (the place is pretty small anyway), the volume of the music was perfect -- not too loud at all. Consider getting the specialties of the house (braised chicken, oxtails) as both were just amazing.
Had a wonderful experience at Hibiscus. Food was delicious and staff was friendly. Will definitely go back!
Hibiscus is a gem.
The food and service is top notch.
My new go to spot. We'll be back!
This was a surprise Father's Day treat from my loving wife. The food was plentiful and delicious. I loved the clam, shrimp, and oyster bar. The Caribbean cuisine was super. So many choices!
The wait staff were so friendly and helpful. We even had a few laughs with the other customers.
The musicians hit all the right notes, with such a variety of songs.
It made for a very memorable Father's Day.
What a hidden gem! In the back of the Best Western is this fantastic restaurant. We loved the Caribbean cuisine, and in particular the jerk chicken, chicken roti, and the amazing fresh made Festival cakes. The live jazz band playing was a interesting compliment to the fantastic food! Check it out, you won't be disappointed.
Lovely comfortable atmosphere. High quality, delicious food! Friendly, attentive service. Really good jazz pianist.
Appetizers (sampler excellent)
Live music excellent
Do try this place. My family talked me into it and, despite my skepticism (which only increased when I found out it was in a hotel...and then again when I found out the hotel was a Best Western), I loved it, returned and loved it again!
We start with exceedingly friendly servers. The skeptic's scowl returned when I asked what the "don't miss items" were on the menu and was told "it's ALL good", but of the 10 entrees and 6 appetizers we've tried so far, I can't argue with the "all".
Do try some jerk. It's got a kick, but nothing most of you can't handle. The seafood stew and the curry were also wonderful. The kids were intrigued by the house signature drink (sweet hibiscus tea) so much that the manager gave us a bag of dried hibiscus flowers and told us how to make it!
They have live music on busier nights (reggae one night; jazz trio another) which really enhanced the experience.
No liquor license, but you can bring your own or order from Cambridge Wines to get them to deliver your packaged goods via scooter (which amuses our son to no end for reasons which escape me).
These are the kinds of restaurants we should be patronizing: individual/family owned and operated; employees who are clearly invested in the success of the place; people who are genuinely grateful you gave them business; live music; and from-scratch food that tastes amazing (and a great bargain!)
Being the Tuesday after Mother's Day, there were no shrimp, or scallops available, which was a disappointment to both of us. That's life. Listening to Rio Clemente play piano, is always a delight, as is lovely Carlene, one of the owners.
I had a fabulous time at Hibiscus for Mother's Day, with my mom. The wide variety of food and desserts, were incredibly delicious.
I came there to listen to a friend singing. The music was nice and soothing, the food was delicious and the service was great.
You could probably use 1 more person to just be the hostess for seating. A few people walked in and didn't know what to do because there was no one to greet them. Everyone was serving others or in the kitchen.
Great food and service, everyone in my party loved it and enjoyed the live music.
Another very happy visit to Hibiacus restaurant for a delicious dinner in this very pretty intimate room w/ table linens and soft lighting. Tables are nicely spaced and placed for quiet conversation and hearing the wonderful music of Betty Liste , pianist and singer Bill Robinson and sensitive accompaniment by bass and drummer. The many diners and music aficionados heard a well known and talented guitarist that particular evening. This is a favorite dining room that features this group on first Fridays of each month and also offers a variety of musical groups and performers . Hibiscus is a beautiful flower of a restaurant!
I met up with a couple of friends for dinner there a week ago based on the reviews online. The menu was very limited. The food was decent, but nothing to write home about. We had the combination appetizers which was the highlight of the meal as the spices used were very much Caribbean. I would recommend the restaurant for a casual family dinner where you wouldn't feel rushed.
Unique- Very Authentic Food- You Have to Be In The Mood.
You are certainly going for the Caribbean cuisine. The atmosphere is a throwback to a 1970's hotel restaurant. Service is uneven but friendly. The menu is a wide offering of Jamaican standards and very authentic. And very good.
Another fabulous meal at Hibiscus! Earlier this month we shared an enjoyable meal for our anniversary on April 3,2017. When I asked my husband where he wanted to dine for his birthday he had only one response: Hibiscus.......such amazing food!
We were happy that Karlene was our server again. She is such a pleasant, warm &
charming woman- really very helpful explaining each dish. It was a great feeling to know she remembered us as she greeted us with a warm hug and smile. It felt like we were with family.
My choice this evening was a deliciously hot, spicy jerk shrimp salad and an Oriental Stir-Fry - chicken, shrimp & scallops. My husband had the Hibiscus salad and the Blackened MahiMahi with rice and veggies. I ordered a side of plantains, so sweet and satisfying.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We ran out without dessert this time for the fresh , apple/pear birthday tart I had prepared at home.
Hidden gem. Friendly service, good food! Live music but not too loud. Great find!
My husband and I went with 2 other couples that were skeptical about the venue. They are not very adventurous eaters. Everyone found something in the menu for their taste preference. The best thing is that we all enjoyed our meals. After delicious food and wonderful music, we all left with a smile and full tummies! I look forward to our next visit to Hibiscus!
Went to Easter Sunday Brunch and although the place was nice, they seemed to be under prepared for the event to take place. They ran out of scrambled eggs, bacon and potatoes and nobody was checking so didn't see that it was refilled with more. Settled on an omelet which was good though and so where the other items that were available.
As far as service, no server ever readily came to our table so had to just grab someone to ask for glasses for our drinks and someone else for our coffee. A 205 tip was include regardless of how many people were at the table and don't think the price was worth what we got.
I will give it another try possibly for another meal, but not for a brunch for a holiday.
Wonderful Jamaican food, BYOB, great service and value.
Food is exceprional...A must have!
