Hi Life Restaurant - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
I have been past the restaurant several times and never noticed it. When we drove up I was taken aback because it was not what I expected. However, when we entered we were greeted warmly and I was given several compliments. Our server explained the menu to us as well as the specials for the evening. She eassured us whatever we picked we would truly enjoy. We ordered the black calamari which was a large, tasty portion but a little greasy. My entree; the brisket, brussel sprouts, and greens were delicious. Myu husband ordered the lobster ravioli which he truly enjoyed. We shared the chocolate cake which was moist and just enough!
The evening started off a bit shaky. Our server was a bit scattered, but settled down after a few missteps. The atmosphere is nice with big circular booths and white tablecloths. it's a perfect place for a party of four to be able to dine and talk easily. Decent wine list. The food was good -the salmon was very good and the steaks were just good. the ravioli was swimming in butter instead of what could have been a nice sauce. the chef came and checked on us a couple times and that was a very nice touch.
Hi Life was a bit more upscale than I had expected. I was pleasantly surprised. Since it was Valentine's, my lady and I were dressed appropriately. The environment was very cozy and romantic. White table cloths, candles, flowers ... beautiful! The food was excellent and the portion sizes fit the prices. We both took home left overs! I had the peppered tuna steak and it was prepared like I had never had it before - and it was excellent. My lady had the pork loin and she raved about it as well. Our server, Maggie, was a complete pleasure. The first thing she did was greet us with a beautiful smile and I knew from there we were in for a very nice dinner -- and we were not disappointed. This was our first visit to Hi Life but it certainly won't be our last. If you're looking for a nice, classy, romantic spot for a dinner, this is your place.
My fiance and I were having date night and looking for somewhere to go that did not require driving far. I saw this place on opentable.com.
The food was delicious!!! I had the rib eye and my lady had the short ribs. It was a little bit of a wait for the short rib but everything was worth the wait. The waiter and waitress were very friendly and we will be going back.
My husband and I tried this restaurant for the very first. We arrived at around 7:45PM. Only 2 or tables were occupied with a group of 5 people was at the bar. We ordered Seared diver scallops as an appetizer, and it took forever for them to bring them to our table (The waitress told us that the scallops were over cooked that they had to redo). I ordered Grilled Salmon, and it was too sweet that I could not even eat it. My husband ordered a cup of Gumbo, but no shrimp could be found in it, then the waitress brought the shrimp separately. I would not recommend this restaurant.
I had been looking forward to trying this place for a long time. Unfortunately it was very disappointing. My mom had the flounder special and it was good, but expensive at $28. I had the house special espresso rubbed short ribs also expensive. I do not mind paying a lot for exceptional food but this was not.
It took over 30 minutes to get our food. Apparently the short ribs take a long time to prepare, this was not mentioned when we ordered. If we had known that we may have gotten a salad or appetizer.
During the wait there was not even bread brought to the table and we had several times that water or wine was empty.
We finally got our food. I have to say that the Kale side was exceptional. However, the short ribs were very dry and tasteless. I am not sure how you can even do that to short ribs. So I complained, they brought sauce, didn't help. They did offer to change it out for something else but I had lost my appetite. The good thins is they took it off the bill and gave me the remaining meat .
My dog smiled as he ate it, so bonus day for him. not so much for me. I really wanted to like this place but bottom line it is expensive and just not that good. We will not be back.
The food was great.( scallops and lobster ravioli ).The service was outstanding. The ambience could have rivaled any fancy dining in downtown Atlanta.
Our server told me it's busier throughout the week, but weekends are best for less ttaffic.
I was surprising an old friend and it worked out perfectly.
We had low noise which she adored because a lot of popular spots in the city have louder music than great service and their lights are brighter than the food is good.
Thanks to you all for putting the cherry on a perfect evening. Compliments to the chef for preparing her food just as she liked it.
Food and waitress were quite good, but we waited 15-20 minutes after our salad plates were cleared to receive our entrees. The waitress apologized, but the delay was not because of the crowd; there were no more than 10-12 people in the place (3 already finished with dinner and 3 others at the bar).
Claimed we didn't have reservations but the staff got us a table. The food was excellent but the kitchen wait for our food was atrocious. It took 1 hour to get our entree! No apology by the management. Our server was okay. if your looking for great food and don't mind spending 2-3 hours in a restaurant, then this is a place for you, if not stay clear.
We decided to try Hi Life because of the Saturday night 1/2 off wine special, and we were pleasantly surprised. Our wait person was extremely nice and helpful. She let us try the wine before we settled for it. My husband and I shared the gumbo as an appetizer, and it was very dark, rich and satisfying. I ordered the scallops for my entree, along with wasabi mashed potatoes and tempura green beans, which were filling, so I took leftovers home. My husband had a huge steak with asparagus, which he also could not finish and took home leftovers. We split a bread pudding dessert, which was delicious. We'll return!
Really enjoyed the trip to this fantastic restaurant. The curb appeal looks like something out of an old movie, but very clean and tastefully decorated. The food was, by far, the best we have had in recent travels. 2 had steaks and I had the Sea Bass. My dish was light and flavorful with just the perfect sear on the bass. My friends both commented on how tender and well prepared their steaks were. I hope to visit this gem of a restaurant in the future.
We had dinner at Hi Life during restaurant week. The food was great and the restaurant week price was a great value. We've eaten at Hi Life previously and we've never been disappointed. The bar area is a great place to have a cocktail and grab an appetizer.
I had met two friends at restaurant the week before Gwinnett Restaurant week and had a fun dinner and decided I would take a friend and her husband for her birthday and three course dinner for $21.21. We had a lovely evening and food options were perfect since we had one of everything offered. It was so nice that the other couple took 4 of their grandchildren two nights later. I have never been disappointed at this restaurant.
I have been dining at Hi Life for years and I keep going back because the food and the service are absolutely top notch. Don't be put off by the location. The scallop dish (served whith wasabi whipped potatoes and tempura battered green beans) is one of the best in Atlanta. The steaks are extremely delicious as well. Go see for yourself.
I really don't understand why no one goes here. I noticed two things that might be why: the location and the sign(or lack of). The location is stuffed away in a dark shopping center. I don't understand why the HI LIFE sign was off? I made the area very unattractive and a little scary. Across the street the restaurants were packed, but HI LIFE...the girlfriend and I were the only ones eating.
The food, drinks, and service were great. The servings are heavy so you will have lunch for the next day. On Saturday they offer half priced wine. Overall I would go back for the food and drinks, but not until they fix the HI LIFE sign...I need to feel safe.
We stumbled on this location while in Norcross GA for a couple of days (it was very close the the Hilton where we were staying). I had asked the front desk to recommend a place we could go for a late dinner and to watch the NCAA Tournament. I had worked in the restaurant business for many years so am somewhat critical on all levels. I found the restaurant very comfortable and the server welcoming and helfpul. The food was the biggest surprise....excellent Caesar Salad, and the Lobster Ravioli was one of the best I've ever had. The wine list was a little weak. I only say that becuase the food was so good, it begs for better (and more reasonably priced) wines. I'd definitely recommend this place.
So this may not be the best location - tucked in a strip mall in Peachtree Corners. It may not have all the flare of driving down to buckhead - but if you are anywhere close to this restaurant you have got to try it. The food was fantastic. You don't get the stuffy service or stuffy people at other restaurants of this caliber - so it's a great place without the attitude. From start to finish I could not have asked for a better place for our 11th wedding anniversary.
I've lived in Norcross/Berkeley Lake area for years and I've driven past Hi Life countless times. Finally decided to give it a try and it was well worth it! It was a slow night but the service was great and the food was fantastic. Truly a neighborhood gem and highly recommended!
